Hans Bakker[edit]

Hans Bakker is the guy who was killed at an open source conference of some sort. Slashdot reported his passing. Searches on the net turn up a "Hans Bakker" that is not this guy, and Slashdot doesn't even mention him by name in the article. As much of an open source kind of guy as I am, I don't think dying at a conference makes an otherwise non-notable open source coder any more notable. CryptoDerk 23:53, Sep 30, 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete - Google tells us there's a sociologist by the same name who's more notable (still not notable though). Other articles unlikely to link to this, and it's highly unlikely to improve from what it already is. Jelly441 00:09, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Requiescat in Pace. Delete. Not notable.--Samuel J. Howard 00:11, Oct 1, 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete - yes, it's sad, but it happened more than 15 minutes ago, and the poor guys alloted fame minutes are used up. It's a context issue - and most people don't merit inclusion in the context of an encyclopedia. -- foobario 00:21, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete - I hate to vote delete on a sincerely made tribute, but unless he was e.g. the leader of a major open source project, I don't think he is notable enough for Wikipedia, despite his tragic death. —Stormie 00:29, Oct 1, 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete, unless perhaps there's something else notable about him than just this. Does anyone know what software he's written? Bryan 02:10, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete, with condolences. I'm sorry, but 9-11 victims don't get individual Wikipedia articles, either. • Benc • 07:03, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)

      • I was making a generalization. We have 52 articles in that category, out of 2,973 victims, and a separate memorial wiki set up to cover all of the biographies. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a memorial. • Benc • 22:19, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete, it's very sad, but IMHO this isn't notable enough for Wikipedia. -- le - 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete. He simply wasn't known outside his family and group of friends. If he hadn't just died, we wouldn't be having this discussion. --chbarts 10:56, Oct 1, 2004 (UTC)
  • Condolences to the family, but he wasn't sufficiently notable. Delete. Average Earthman 11:44, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete Never heard of this guy.
  • Delete - there are more notable persons with no entries, or minimal entry, here.--Steeltitan 14:21, Oct 4, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep - Hans Bakker was also the chairman of ne2000 and a major force in organising networkevents and promoting open source in general which imho makes him an important person even though he lacks the guru's unix beard
