In regards to your vote on Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/European_Union_Olympic_medals_count_for_2004 and your comment at Wikipedia_talk:Votes_for_deletion#from_a_discussion_thread, please understand that the people who thought you were a sockpuppet were only making the best judgment call they could with the limited information they had available. Though I personally don't doubt that you are a real and individual person, you should be aware that votes cast by a brand-new user ID or IP address may be considered "bad faith" votes according to our deletion policy (see Wikipedia:Deletion_guidelines_for_administrators#Rough_consensus), and are unlikely to be counted. This policy not only helps to cut down on sockpuppets, but also helps to ensure that the only votes counted are those cast by real Wikipedians, who have an interest in improving Wikipedia, as opposed to visitors who are only trying to push their own agenda. Once you have made a significant number of contributions to a variety of subjects, you should find that people won't be so quick to call you a sockpuppet.
Certainly there are here, as everywhere, a few people who are, as you say, "puerile and arrogant", but our administration system, including the voting and deletion guidelines, are designed to minimize the negative impact those people can have on Wikipedia. —Triskaideka 17:05, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

European-American issues[edit]
Hello, I have been following the discussion on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004 (I voted to keep by the way) and I notice you are getting quite worked up about being falsely accused of sockpuppetry. Please don't take that personally, it's just that with this particular article a clear case has not been made by either side and so the controversy is heating up.
Please don't abandon the English Wikipedia as you have threatened to do as this will achieve nothing but a decline in the quality of our articles. We need as many international editors as we can get on here as it is currently very much focused on the USA. I notice you have written some articles on Portugal, these are very much appreciated — please keep it up! I suspect the EU medal count article will be deleted soon, but don't give up hope. The best thing Europeans can do for Wikipedia is to work to fill in its gaps on European topics by creating or expanding articles, and occasionally putting our position across when there's a dispute.
I try to avoid editing very controversial articles like George W Bush and Anti-American sentiment, instead I just keep an eye on them. Unfortunately as we are seeing on VfD at the moment when it comes to a vote there are generally more Americans than Europeans, and so they tend to win. The best thing to do is keep on writing articles about what you know, and try not to get too angry when ignorant people make this encyclopedia go backwards and become more US-centric.

- I just wanted to comment that voting against that EU medals page doesn't mean the user is anti-Europe, anti-EU, anti-European federalism, or Pro-US. I voted against it, I'm Australian, not anti-EU and certainly not pro-US. -- Chuq 22:53, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
