I confess to an irrational dislike of headings, and I tend to ignore them a lot of the time - which is one of the great things about a community-written project: one can afford these little lazy luxuries, as someone else will always come along and attend to the parts you don't do yourself. Dysprosia, I finally looked at my own talk page, and saw your welcome. Thanks for that. I guess you are the nice neighbor that comes around with the basket of fruit.

I have been posting here and there as time allows, but nowhere near the level of devotion I see from you and other prolific editors. I mostly stick to Asian and Japanese issues, as those are my strengths. However, I have set my browser homepage to open a wikipedia random page, and found myself doing minor edits or fixes as they arise.

Ahh yes, the numbers. Well, I can't keep track of any of these project pages, so I'm not contributing there, but see what else you want to do with the numbers now. I'm done with my sweeps through the 1-10k range; note that "divisors" is only part of the template for numbers with more than 2 non-trivial divisors (else the factorization says it all). other than that, I think all numbers-page editors are on the same page. Thanks re welcome & red links

Thanks for your welcoming message, which I appreciated, as I have only been in wikipedia for a week and have mostly been proceeding on a trial and error basis - having fallen in love with the Wikipedia structure and process, and trusting in the error correction properties of digital information systems.

This is my first attempt at using the talk function, which feels fairly cumbersome, imho. I did begin a response to you yesterday - but ended up not posting it.

Btw, my preferred modality of communication is IRC - is this available anywhere in Wiki world? If not, you are welcome to visit me at irc://irc.oftc.net/ie, which I will keep open today - and I will keep an eye open for any visitors to the channel.

I have continued to pursue my hunch as to the significance of red links, In the process of revising many such links I had created at collective intelligence agency - to which I have ported the matrix that I had come up with on my first visit to red links - I had come up with an idea for an alternative construction of red links as search links - see red links - having made use of WordPerfect 5.1+ styles and macros to convert what I had listed under Define into an ad hoc demonstration of an alternative construction of red links.

I look forward to finding more about how Wikipedia works, and appreciate the valuable contribution that you make - judging by the messages on your page yesterday.

About the byte pages

CMYK

Thanks for fixing my formulas. I sort of suck at formulas, give me an algorithm anyday.

Now for some strange reason the algorithm at "the site" has RGB with 8 bit integers for each channel, and CMYK uses floating point proportions for each channel. Eh what!? So at some point, someone should either write everything using proportions, or write everything scaled to 8 bit integers.  :-)

But that's neither here nor there, like, thanks again! :-)

I'm totally new here (as a user and contributor) but thought I'd try adding something that I searched for and was not there. Thanks for fixing what I wrote on the Campaign for Dark Skies! I went back to correct it when I realised that the keyword should be emboldened but someone had already done so for me. /me decides that I really should read the FAQ's &c first before jumping in to this, so I've just tree-killed them. I like the whole Wikipedia thing--I've been an DMoz/ChefMoz/&c editor for some time but I like the freedom over here (both everyone can edit and the licensing)(as a liberally-minded person & an FSF member).

Thought I'd add a response to your comments on my talk page to yours. Thanks so much for that helpful intro info--it ca be daunting being a newbie :-) . Wikipedia seems like my ideal of how the WWW should be, and I'm not sure why I did not come across it before. Unfortunately, I do not have Internet access at home (too expensive) and I'm busy ATM (in college--should be doing work) but I'd love to do more wiki-ing(?) when I have more time in the future.

P.S. /me wonders if it is possible to change the dates (like the one in .sig above) I read to another format (e.g.: big-endian Iso8601 [ooh...that doesn't exist looks like another node (or whatever you call them) to make](YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mmZ) which I find easier to read).

Make sure you make the links properly/check to see if a page exists already! -- ISO8601 ;) To change the date style, have a look in your preferences.

P.P.S. When finding info it would probably be very useful if Wikipedia had its own search function (not just using Google). Do you know why it does not?

I've re-edited the "transsexual" section according to best practice as advised by "Press for Change", the UK's main political source. I'm sorry if you do not agree with the importance with which I insist that "transsexual" be regarded as an adjective, but I have a very long experience with the subject, and long wnough to know that this usage is the correct one to show to the public. I hope you can agree that self-definition is the way forward. (Yes, I;m new here, but so were we all)

CORBA vs COBRA vs Common object request broker architecture

To start, I'd suggest that it is standard practice to have the main article body for CORBA/Common object request broker architecture to be under the fully expanded version of the name (cf. Remote procedure call/RPC, and File transfer protocol/FTP to name two examples). Perhaps the order in which I made that change made you suspect vandalism.

Second, I understand that misspellings aren't typically disambiguated. I'd make this case an exception that proves the rules though, because it's two five-letter acronyms (I would never advocate it for TLAs). The idea behind "exceptions proving the rule" is that good rules do occasionally have reasonable exceptions.

I support Dysprosia here. As you surely know, everyone calls it CORBA. The expanded name is almost always found in parenthesis next to the acronym. -- Decumanus | Talk 23:42, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Dependence/ance

The dictionaries I have access to don't have the -ance variations listed as being British (or American) spellings. Given that the ones listed on List of common misspellings were massively outnumbered by the "correct" spellings, I figured it was just an uncommon variant that should be corrected for consistency. -- Cyrius|&#9998 06:57, Apr 10, 2004 (UTC)

Its messy, particularly since a huge percentage of the google hits are for the wikipedia version (#1) and various forks, and the rest are almost entirely non-professional academic mentions.
