I would like to combine this page with Maxim gun, which is the more common term - swiping some details from this text as well as the picture of Maxim and putting them into the other article, then redirecting this page to that article. Any objections? - DavidWBrooks 14:56, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I think this is absolutely the right thing to do. While you are refactoring, I am worried about two claims in this article:

  1. The Maxim gun being "the single most devastating weapon ever used". I would imagine the AK-47's performance in Africa would outdo this.
  2. The Russo-Japanese war comment: "Nearly 50 per cent of all casualties in the entire conflict were derived from Maxim guns" I would expect that casualties would be primarily due to artillery, given the period of the war, but am not an expert on the Russo-Japanese war.
