Although Token Rings may now be implemented as star wired solutions, I think that as per ethernet the original implementation was in fact a ring with each station acting as a receiver and transmitter of the token? Rjstott

Star wired as in physically star wired. Token ring has been physically star wired since its inception. That is, you didn't run cable from one node, directly to the next node. There was always some type of device (hub/MAU/MSAU - whatever you want to call it) present. This was and is completely different from how the original Ethernet bus-wired system was originally designed, where stations connected directly to each other in turn. Stations have and still do act as a repeater (receiver/transmitter in your words) of all token ring frames on the segment. The device (hub/MAU/MSAU) simply acts as the cabling connectrater with relays that allow stations onto the ring. jtk
