i thought david hasselhoff was gay! it says in the first paragraph that he was in The Young and the Restless with chuck norris. chuck norris was not in this program, chuck norris does not like serial dramas or comedy of any kind, furthermore he thinks you're ugly. that you're all ugly. la la la la.

His song, Hot Shot City, is particularly good. - StoneColdCrazy 19:33, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

About as good as Leif Garrett singing "My old man's a dustman"!

This page needs to be watched for vandalism from a user with the IP address 217.137.88.2.

I removed the stement about his 'claiming to have helped reunite Germany'. The only sources I can find for this are a number of blogs, all with suspiciously similar wording, some getting the facts wrong (they say he made the claim in 1989, before the wall came down). They all claim to trace the quote back to a German magazine, Spielfilm. They keep quoting him as saying "I find it a bit sad that there is no photo of me hanging on the walls in the Berlin Museum at Check-Point Charlie", but the museum was for escapees, not for those helping with reunification. This sounds like exactly the sort of quote someone might have said jokingly, and then was blown up as a real claim by either the magazine or the bloggers. Either way it's too dumb for Wikipedia. The article relating to David Hasselhoff 'claiming to have helped reunite Germany' can be found on Ananova. --Ngiese 20:07, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I have to admit, usually you assume that when an actor has claimed to have said a quote like this, it was either taken completely out of context, or they have a massive ego. Thing is though that many Germans, especially those who lived in the former East Germany, think the David Hasselhoff helped bring the Germans together somehow. He was something that they both had in common. Remember, he was the Hollywood star, and child of German descendants who came to his ancestral homeland to help bring it back together. Sometimes its hard for Anglo people to wrap around their heads just how popular and significant to the zeitgeist Hasselhoff was in the early 90's. He might not have had the effect that the Pope John Paul II had in bringing down communism from within, but his music did help make the transition smoother. You could say he developed the "soudtrack for reunification." rasblue 18:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

CA Penalty Assessment

I think it's this, but the numbers aren't quite right. From a real standard Cali (at least for Santa Clara County) sentencing order (for a second DUI sentenced on Feb 19, 2004):

Fine: $400
"PA":      900
"CSA":      20
"DRF/RF": 100 (I think 'restitution fund'--P.C Section 1001.90)
"APA/DPF": 50 (this is the one recently added to the article)
"LAB":      20 (blood test)
"NC":        1 (night court)
"AR":       35

For a total of $1526. Niteowlneils 20:15, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

On a first DUI on Jan 17, 2002, most of the numbers are the same, but the PA is only $680, there is no CSA, and the AR is only "w", 10, or 20 (can't quite make it out), or a total of $1251 (or 1261 or 1271). Niteowlneils 20:26, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Popularity in Ireland

For the past year there has been an upsurge in the cult following of David Hasselhoff in Ireland. Posters and emails of "the hoff" have been doing the rounds.

I believe he is opening a niteclub in Kildare in a few weeks time.

There is also an online petition for him play at the oxegen festival which currently has close to 20,000 sigs.

I'm at a loss to explain it as he hasn't done anything of note here recently but everyone is talking about it.

Anyone have anymore info?

Neutrality issues?

In 2004, Looking for … the Best became the highest rated CD on Amazon.com, receiving an incredible number of 5-star ratings. This was the culmination of a spontaneous internet joke that has been going on for several years, in which Amazon customers review the album. This statement does not cite any sources and should thus be deleted.

This is completely factual and can be checked by anyone interested in checking it just by clicking the provided link. No source is needed to confirm it in the face of such evidence. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.58.8.42 (talkcontribs) .

The article in general needs a cleanup, it portraits Hasselhoff as a laughable eccentric and hardly mentions his success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland without ridiculing it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.208.138.171 (talkcontribs) .

But isn't he a laughable eccentric?? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.0.108.203 (talkcontribs) .

Have tidied up the article, believe it now portrays the Hoff accurately,so have removed the POV tag. --OscarTheCattalk 15:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
The original poster wanted a source to be cited for the "...is particularly good" reviews phenomena, see [1], [2], [3] and [4] --Oscarthecat 18:18, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

An editor deleted a reference in the last sentence of the section "Late career" to a website critical of David Hasselhoff’s endorsement of Pipex. The information was described as a "rant". I can only imagine that this was a reference to the content of the critical website, as there was nothing which could be fairly described as a “rant” contained in the information which had been deleted from this Wikipedia article. The question of whether the relevant comments published on the critical website constitute a "rant", or amount to fair comment, could only be judged by reading all salient information on the critical website. The principle which therefore arises is whether Wikipedia rules and policies are to be extended to the information published on website links? I would respectfully suggest that this would not be a realistic proposition. There is a reference to a website in the same sentence to a website promoting Hasselhoff as the "king of the internet", so it seems reasonable for the sake of balance to have a reference to a website which takes a different view. quotes

there's some priceless quotes by him - things like how he helps world peace and every dying child dreams of meeting him. perhaps we could have a quotes section or does that ALL belong on wikiquote.

Vandalism

Jokes about David Hasselhoff

I find it breathtaking that there is no mention in this article about the huge volume of tongue-in-cheek jokes about David Hasselhoff ('The Hoff') that regularly circulate on the forwarded email jokes circuit. Not a week passes without someone emailing me another slideshow or series of Hoff-related humour. Come on folks, get real. It's what he's best known for now, not Baywatch or Knight Rider. For example, just look at these (possibly insincere) customer reviews of his greatest hits on Amazon: [5] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Labcoat (talkcontribs) .

There was a separate article on this phenomenon which came on AFD a while ago. However, you're right: the "Hoff" phenomenon (mugs, "Don't Hassle the Hoff" T-shirts, etc.) should be mentioned. --Saforrest 15:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

German speaker?

Okay, so he's very popular in Germany (or at least, he was in 1989), and the article makes some mention of his saying a few words in German.

His last name is certainly German. Is there any evidence he actually speaks German with any fluency? --Saforrest 15:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Check out the song "Du" its fully in german

Um...people can sing songs in languages in which they're not fluent. Many English speakers know "Frere Jacques" and "Alouette" without having a clue what they mean. Raggaga 18:58, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

The Beatles sang two songs in German, but I don't think any of them spoke it as a second language. Kenny Rogers sang in Spanish, but I have never seen any evidence that suggests he speaks it fluent. 74.65.39.59 13:30, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

the perception that hasselhoff is a huge, revered star in germany is ridiculous. he is remembered for baywatch and knight rider. thats it. --Tresckow 07:50, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Trsesckow is right. Hasselhoff is more a kind of a joke in Germany, a tv/movie star who thinks he can sing. His one-hit-wonder in 89 (!) was mainly based on buys by the grandmother generation and east Germans who don't speak english. Furthermore he does surely not speak more than a couple of words of German, comparabel to Elvis who sang "Wooden Heart" in German ("Muss'I denn"), who didn't speak German either. IMHO this myth about his huge success in Germany must be based on his own marketing propaganda. lanxfax --217.224.52.159 13:10, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Highest rated?

I'm noticing some controversy over whether David H.'s CD became the "highest rated" CD on Amazon. So far as I know, Amazon does not publish lists of "most highly rated" CD's. Does anyone has a source for this? I've looked at Oscarthecat's sources above, but the only ones that say it's the highest rated source are direct quotes from the Wikipedia article, which make it not so much a source as a destination. Until there is definitive proof it became the "highest rated" CD, I am changing it to "abnormally highly rated". Raggaga 18:57, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Get The Hoff to Number 1

I have updated it to show 15 000 signups so far. Will Keep an eye on it. Murmur 11:15, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

It will be kinda funny I guess if he gets the number 1, but I suspect that the following week it will drop to something like #60. 74.65.39.59 20:16, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I've updated the signups to 33,000. Also I have changed the paragraph about Scott Mills to more accurately represent the chronology of events, and that Scott Mills' BBC website promotes the original "Get Hasselhoff to Number 1" website.

irony / humour icon

it seems to me we should have this as the latest section of his career as thats what seems to be driving the current hoff phase and we should start it with the amazon reviews and the hoff as the devil thing and then expand from there with references to pop bitch. its something the hoff fully understands, just check out his latest video or that appearnce in dodgeball. he is a post modern ironic icon.

I agree. Hasselhoff is like the new Chuck Norris for 'kooky' internet posters, and i feel it should be added. Adamshappy 16:23, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

His music

Shoudln't there be some kind of suggestion that his music is profoundly terrible? I'm pretty sure he's well aware of it anyway.

Religion?

I know that it's standard to put people's religion sometime, and I noticed that it wasn't in his bio. Was there a reason for this? I don't know if he has ever publicly said his religion was, but his profile pic has him wearing a cross in it. Should we mention his religion in his bio?

ObiBinks (talk) 21:59, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Wearing a cross doesn't make him necessarily Christian, and even if he is what sort is he? Anyway, WP:BLP says that his beliefs should be given by him ("publicly self-identifies") and relevant to his notability, and I can't see how the last criteria can be met. --JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 22:15, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

There are pictures and videos of him driving the car from Night Rider but when I saw him he was driving a black Audi R8 with "hasslehoff.com" on the windshield. Hasselhoff in Germany

His series Baywatch and Knight Rider were popular. This created him a Fanbase in Germany that`s true. So he had all over the world. He had some success in music and he performed at the Berlin Wall. That´s true also. Everyone could have done that. In the western part of the city everyone could have grabbed a guitar and perform there. No big deal. He has in fact a camp music appeal in Germany. To try to prove this funny (I admit it) myth with a Bild-Zeitung quote is useless. Thats like quoting the Daily Morror or the National Enquirer. Not to mention we don`t know whats written in this article. I will remove dubious statements like: It resonated with the newly unified nation That`s not measurable and he really is more considered bad taste than anything else. He has an official fan club in Germany (Hasselhoff-foundation.de). Its last activity was in 17. Nov. 2003 its first in 1997! That´s how big his status in Germany is. Once again its funny, but its a myth.--Tresckow 03:40, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

"Role in ending Communism" ?!

What on earth? He wrote a song some people in Eastern Europe took to, so he now has an undefinable but certain role in ending Communism?! I think someone wrote this crap as a joke. If him writing an anthem some people under Communism liked awards him a role in ending Communism then I guess we need to mention the Scorpions ("Winds of Change") as well. I suppose they, too, were great anti-Soviet crusaders. Shocking news you sometimes learn here in the wonderful world of Wikipedia: musicians ended the Cold War. Rocked me like a hurricane.

This is no joke, cf. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/3465301.stm Relaxel (talk) 07:32, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

European Popularity

And again I can assure you that Hasselhoff is not a huge, revered star in europe. It is not true he reached the peak of his, worldwide success, with Baywatch. Oh and by the way Jerry Lewis is not a big star in France either. --Tresckow 01:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Does he speak any German? Is he fluent? Oboemastah 09:07, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Wow, Nodekeeper! Quite an ignorant statement. He also crossed over to a successful music career, primarily in Austria, Switzerland, and most notably Germany. This statement is not true. He was successfull in thos three countries. But the one he was most successful was Austria (not Australia, for you Nodekeeper). He was also successfull in the UK, as you can check on the chartlists shown on the german wikipedia. And no Hasselhof speaks no german.--Tresckow 02:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

It is still not true. He landed some hits and appeared alot of times on the cover of the weekly Bravo (magazine). And that when he was a TV-Star in Knight Rider and Baywatch. To claim he is still a popular star in Germany and Austria is simply not true. 2006 he appeared in a Pepsi Commercial in Australia and reached #3 in the UK-Charts. Yet i seriously doubt he is a star there.--Tresckow (talk) 16:24, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I live in germany and i can assure you that IF hes known here than only for his role in Baywatch or Knight rider, not for his singing career. Not popular here at all. I was shocked.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.89.209.115 (talk) 23:46, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Undue weight?

This article suffers from such problems with undue weight that I am going to tag it withan NPOV template. At the moment, it devotes one line to Knight Rider, and doesn't refer at all to Baywatch beyond a mention in the lead, despite the fact that those are the roles that made Hasselhoff famous; on the other hand, it devotes five paragraphs to a single interview he did in 2006, and six paragraphs to his alcohol problems. Anyone reading who hadn't heard of David Hasselhoff would think he was famous for being an alcoholic rather than an actor. It's as if our article on William Shatner didn't mention Star Trek, but had five pages about his singing career. This seriously needs to be rewritten to promote something closer to a neutral view of the subject (and comply with our biographies of living persons policy). Personal Info clean-up needed!

"Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark A. Juhas signed the order March 6, 2006 ordering the former Baywatch star to stay at least 100 yards (91 m) from Bach except for "peaceful contacts related to court ordered visitation" of their children." This reads so much more like an article than an encyclopedia entry, that I'm guessing it's plagiarized. Either way, I've changed "former Baywatch star" to "Hasselhoff", removed the uncited and confusing warhammer line (was it vandalism?), and removed a dead citation. That same picture has been added back to the article many times after last August, including today [8], couple of days after I had changed it to a better one that had been in the article long time previously. In my opinion this current picture (commons:File:David Hasselhoff 2009.jpg) is, frankly, quite bad (mouth open, "The Hoff" seemingly not prepared for the photo). ,,n (talk) 00:45, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

details requested about AGT

AMericas got talent is a popular show and it'd be nice if there was more information about his years being a judge. Specifically I wanted to find out more about what might have led to his replacement after season 4. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.160.131.17 (talk) 07:12, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Making an Inference

I think the part about him being a practicing Lutheran is WAY out of place in the article. They state his religion after a couple paragraphs explaining his alcoholism and makes it seem like a strange implication that his religion is somehow tied to his alcoholism. Maybe it's just me, or just the laconic sentence that follows the lengthy addiction problems, but it seems like its saying Lutherans have drinking problems?72.199.100.223 (talk) 01:51, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Update On Hasselhoff's Acting Career

(----pamela5796) David Hasselhoff had a recurring role on the "Young and the Restless" from 1975 to 1982 and then a brief return in 2008. He portrayed a character by the name of Snapper Foster. I noticed this was not included in his acting career. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pamela5796 (talkcontribs) 21:05, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hard to find links to it but nothing works. I guess it's defunct. I don't care enough to investigate further. Itsbruce (talk) 13:42, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

About Germany.

I know France and Germany, and he is not more popular in Germany than in France. For Germany, people says it as a joke, nothing more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:8A8D:FE80:78FB:2BC2:B14A:DEA7 (talk) 20:20, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

"David Hoff"

@Checkingfax: It seems the name "David Hoff" is legitimate looking at the news [9] [10] (It doesn't appear to be a hoax at this time). I reverted a change to the infobox related to it earlier as well; sources are needed to back it up, but the article should be updated to include it in some manner.Godsy(TALKCONT) 02:30, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Godsy, when I reverted an IP editors pending edit it reverted your edit too but I restored your edit by hand. It's in the Hoff the Record section to use present tense. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 02:40, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
@Checkingfax: I noticed that, and your edit summary restoring it. My comment here was unrelated to that, it was to alert you about the supposed name change of this subject reported in the media in case you hadn't noticed. I erroneously thought earlier that an addition similar to the one you reviewed, that I reviewed by a different IP address, was a deliberate introduction of a factual inaccuracy. Best Regards,Godsy(TALKCONT) 02:48, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
The Sydney Morning Herald has just reported that it was a PR stunt for an ad campaign in Australia, and not a real name change [11]. Norvoid (talk) 03:23, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

News reports over here in Australia are saying it's a PR stunt for some ad in Australia. Looking like it's a PR stunt. 5 albert square (talk) 07:12, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

So these sources ([13], [14]) are incorrect?? Quis separabit? 21:02, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

I can't view the first link you put but yes. His rep is also claiming it's a gimmick. 5 albert square (talk) 05:56, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Quick question

What connection does Hasselhoff have with Chicago. He's under mid-important under the Chicago project. Just curious since I'ma Chicagoan and not once I've heard someone mention Hasselhoff being a Chicagoan or being somewhat significant figure to the city. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 06:43, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

@TDKR Chicago 101: The lead of the article and other sections says he was in the musical Chicago but I don't know if that's really significant... 92.237.211.110 (talk) 17:11, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Currently section

I don't believe we're supposed to have "Currently" sections at the top or even say "currently". This content should be integrated somewhere else in the article. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 13:04, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Guinness World Records

In the very first paragraph, the article states: He has set multiple Guinness World Records, being the most watched man on TV and having the highest reverse bungee jump. However, in the body of the article, this is never mentioned. It seems very significant. A section about this should be added to the body of the article. Thanks. Joseph A. Hairy-chested Hoff crab

There's a story on Google News today about some life-forms found near an undersea volcanic vent in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Madagascar. One of them is the hairy-chested Hoff crab, named after David Hasselhoff. This crab was originally discovered near an undersea vent off the coast of Antarctica. We actually have a reference to the original discovery, currently ref #2, supporting a statement in the lede about "Hoff" being his nickname. Zyxwv99 (talk) 17:04, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Proposed split to separate article of discography section

I undid the WP:BOLD WP:SPLIT because I don't think it is necessary for this article. Also it wasn't done properly per process at WP:SPLIT and the required copy attributions were not done. A split should be discussed and only done if consensus gained to do so. Geraldo Perez (talk) 01:45, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

List of works by David Hasselhoff

  • Support split - @Geraldo Perez:, Hasselhoff's filmography, stage work and discography sections take up more than one quarter of the page, and should be split to a new article entitled List of works by David Hasselhoff. Thoughts? --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:06, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
  • Neutral - I don't think it is necessary but won't oppose. Just make sure WP:CWW is conformed to and WP:Splitting § How to properly split an article procedure is followed if done. Geraldo Perez (talk) 15:13, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
  • Comment – in general, I think the trend to "split out" Filmographies into separate pages has gotten too aggressive on Wikipedia, and has been done too much (i.e. I see a number of these that probably shouldn't have been split out). In the case of this one, I'm not sure that it's quite bad enough/long enough to justify splitting. --IJBall (contribstalk) 15:25, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
