I removed the stement about his 'claiming to have helped reunite Germany'. The only sources I can find for this are a number of blogs, all with suspiciously similar wording, some getting the facts wrong (they say he made the claim in 1989, before the wall came down). They all claim to trace the quote back to a German magazine, Spielfilm. They keep quoting him as saying "I find it a bit sad that there is no photo of me hanging on the walls in the Berlin Museum at Check-Point Charlie", but the museum was for escapees, not for those helping with reunification. This sounds like exactly the sort of quote someone might have said jokingly, and then was blown up as a real claim by either the magazine or the bloggers. Either way it's too dumb for Wikipedia. I have to admit, usually you assume that when an actor has claimed to have said a quote like this, it was either taken completely out of context, or they have a massive ego. Thing is though that many Germans, especially those who lived in the former East Germany, think the David Hasselhoff helped bring the Germans together somehow. He was something that they both had in common. Remember, he was the Hollywood star, and child of German descendants who came to his ancestral homeland to help bring it back together. Sometimes its hard for Anglo people to wrap around their heads just how popular and significant to the zeitgeist Hasselhoff was in the early 90's. He might not have had the effect that the Pope John Paul II had in bringing down communism from within, but his music did help make the transition smoother. Popularity in Ireland

For the past year there has been an upsurge in the cult following of David Hasselhoff in Ireland. Posters and emails of "the hoff" have been doing the rounds.

I believe he is opening a niteclub in Kildare in a few weeks time.

There is also an online petition for him play at the oxegen festival which currently has close to 20,000 sigs.

I'm at a loss to explain it as he hasn't done anything of note here recently but everyone is talking about it.

Anyone have anymore info?

An editor deleted a reference in the last sentence of the section "Late career" to a website critical of David Hasselhoff’s endorsement of Pipex. The information was described as a "rant". I can only imagine that this was a reference to the content of the critical website, as there was nothing which could be fairly described as a “rant” contained in the information which had been deleted from this Wikipedia article. The question of whether the relevant comments published on the critical website constitute a "rant", or amount to fair comment, could only be judged by reading all salient information on the critical website. The principle which therefore arises is whether Wikipedia rules and policies are to be extended to the information published on website links? I would respectfully suggest that this would not be a realistic proposition. There is a reference to a website in the same sentence to a website promoting Hasselhoff as the "king of the internet", so it seems reasonable for the sake of balance to have a reference to a website which takes a different view. Jokes about David Hasselhoff

I find it breathtaking that there is no mention in this article about the huge volume of tongue-in-cheek jokes about David Hasselhoff ('The Hoff') that regularly circulate on the forwarded email jokes circuit. Not a week passes without someone emailing me another slideshow or series of Hoff-related humour. Come on folks, get real. It's what he's best known for now, not Baywatch or Knight Rider. Trsesckow is right. Hasselhoff is more a kind of a joke in Germany, a tv/movie star who thinks he can sing. His one-hit-wonder in 89 (!) was mainly based on buys by the grandmother generation and east Germans who don't speak english. Furthermore he does surely not speak more than a couple of words of German, comparabel to Elvis who sang "Wooden Heart" in German ("Muss'I denn"), who didn't speak German either. Highest rated?

I'm noticing some controversy over whether David H.'s CD became the "highest rated" CD on Amazon. So far as I know, Amazon does not publish lists of "most highly rated" CD's. Does anyone has a source for this? I've looked at Oscarthecat's sources above, but the only ones that say it's the highest rated source are direct quotes from the Wikipedia article, which make it not so much a source as a destination. it seems to me we should have this as the latest section of his career as thats what seems to be driving the current hoff phase and we should start it with the amazon reviews and the hoff as the devil thing and then expand from there with references to pop bitch. its something the hoff fully understands, just check out his latest video or that appearnce in dodgeball. he is a post modern ironic icon.

Gumball 3000

There are pictures and videos of him driving the car from Night Rider but when I saw him he was driving a black Audi R8 with "hasslehoff.com" on the windshield. Hasselhoff in Germany

His series Baywatch and Knight Rider were popular. This created him a Fanbase in Germany that`s true. So he had all over the world. He had some success in music and he performed at the Berlin Wall. That´s true also. Everyone could have done that. In the western part of the city everyone could have grabbed a guitar and perform there. No big deal. He has in fact a camp music appeal in Germany. To try to prove this funny (I admit it) myth with a Bild-Zeitung quote is useless. Thats like quoting the Daily Morror or the National Enquirer. Not to mention we don`t know whats written in this article. I will remove dubious statements like: It resonated with the newly unified nation That`s not measurable and he really is more considered bad taste than anything else. What on earth? He wrote a song some people in Eastern Europe took to, so he now has an undefinable but certain role in ending Communism?! I think someone wrote this crap as a joke. If him writing an anthem some people under Communism liked awards him a role in ending Communism then I guess we need to mention the Scorpions ("Winds of Change") as well. Wow, Nodekeeper! Quite an ignorant statement. He also crossed over to a successful music career, primarily in Austria, Switzerland, and most notably Germany. This statement is not true. He was successfull in thos three countries. But the one he was most successful was Austria (not Australia, for you Nodekeeper). It is still not true. He landed some hits and appeared alot of times on the cover of the weekly Bravo (magazine). And that when he was a TV-Star in Knight Rider and Baywatch. To claim he is still a popular star in Germany and Austria is simply not true. 2006 he appeared in a Pepsi Commercial in Australia and reached #3 in the UK-Charts. Undue weight?

This article suffers from such problems with undue weight that I am going to tag it withan NPOV template. At the moment, it devotes one line to Knight Rider, and doesn't refer at all to Baywatch beyond a mention in the lead, despite the fact that those are the roles that made Hasselhoff famous; on the other hand, it devotes five paragraphs to a single interview he did in 2006, and six paragraphs to his alcohol problems. Anyone reading who hadn't heard of David Hasselhoff would think he was famous for being an alcoholic rather than an actor. It's as if our article on William Shatner didn't mention Star Trek, but had five pages about his singing career. This seriously needs to be rewritten to promote something closer to a neutral view of the subject (and comply with our biographies of living persons policy). The official web site of Havre de Grace, MD (north of Baltimore by several miles) lists David Hasselhoff as one of the "famous" people born there. Personal Info clean-up needed!

This reads so much more like an article than an encyclopedia entry, that I'm guessing it's plagiarized. Either way, I've changed "former Baywatch star" to "Hasselhoff", removed the uncited and confusing warhammer line (was it vandalism?), and removed a dead citation. That same picture has been added back to the article many times after last August, including today [8], couple of days after I had changed it to a better one that had been in the article long time previously. Making an Inference

I think the part about him being a practicing Lutheran is WAY out of place in the article. They state his religion after a couple paragraphs explaining his alcoholism and makes it seem like a strange implication that his religion is somehow tied to his alcoholism. In the very first paragraph, the article states: He has set multiple Guinness World Records, being the most watched man on TV and having the highest reverse bungee jump. Hairy-chested Hoff crab

There's a story on Google News today about some life-forms found near an undersea volcanic vent in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Madagascar. One of them is the hairy-chested Hoff crab, named after David Hasselhoff. This crab was originally discovered near an undersea vent off the coast of Antarctica. I undid the WP:BOLD WP:SPLIT because I don't think it is necessary for this article. Also it wasn't done properly per process at WP:SPLIT and the required copy attributions were not done.
