I don't have a lot of time to write for Wikipedia, but when I did in 2005, here is what interested me:

I intended my username as a nonsense word. Later I was amused to learn that it's similar to the Hebrew word for "piggy" (haziron, חזירון), not to mention the Turkish word for June (Haziran).

I am a learner of the Hebrew language. My exercise on Wikipedia was to translate the Hebrew pages about various writers of modern Hebrew prose, or Israeli literature. From this exercise I have learned most of what I know about the subject. It was a way for my fellow Hebrew students and me to learn more about it. My translations were mainly word-for-word. I appreciate others' efforts to improve the selection of facts and smooth the language.

Working list of prominent Hebrew language authors[edit]

For a selection of prominent authors, please refer to Israeli literature. If that has evolved into prose more appropriate for an encyclopedia, an old list form will still be in the revision as of 10:32, 3 Jan 2005.

Back then, many of the authors mentioned in Israeli literature had main entries in Hebrew. Fewer had entries in English. However, all of the author names (as spelled in English), except Barak (Bar Zohar), were linked in the English-language list of Hebrew language authors. I took the trouble of checking all of the spellings in Hebrew and English to make sure they matched existing pages or referring pages.

For some prominent Israeli authors, even the Hebrew-language Wikipedia had stubs, or only links, or no reference at all. For some of those I used Google to verify the Hebrew spelling of the name.

Next batch[edit]

For reasons of convenience and importance, it seemed most worthwhile to translate articles about the following authors from the Hebrew-language Wikipedia: Shulamith Hareven (he:שולמית הראבן), Shulamit Lapid (he:שולמית לפיד), and Amnon Dankner (he:אמנון דנקנר). Although there was no Hebrew-language article about Orly Castel-Bloom (he:אורלי קסטל בלום), I eventually put together an English-language article.

Beyond those, here are the remaining authors who were mentioned in "Israeli literature" with Hebrew spelling and who had articles in the Hebrew-language Wikipedia.

Having links but not pages in Hebrew[edit]

These were generally in he:Category:Hebrew writers.

Having no links but spelling verified in Hebrew[edit]

I found it helpful to verify spelling by searching guesses in Google or in the Mt. Scopus Library catalog.

Brag list[edit]

Two accomplishments of which I am proudest at the moment of writing these words: 1. Woggly wrote on my talk page that I should "keep up the good work". Woggly is extraordinarily kind. 2. The author of the original Hebrew recommended article that I translated in small part as Bulb to light all Ramat Gan left a message on my talk page that he likes the translation. Then I noticed that it is linked from WP:UNUSUAL. Q.E.D.

Finding needed articles[edit]

I looked for ways to identify needed articles in other Wikipedia editions (mainly Hebrew). Among other things, I found en:Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Core_topics and simple:Wikipedia:List of articles all languages should have. Then I made a partial comparison of those two:

When the time came to turn my English Wikipedia username into a pan-Wikimedia username, I missed the chance to unify with my other accounts that are shown below. Oh well.
