Amazon/copyright?[edit]

Hi John, As I mention on the Python talk page, I was really only looking at the grammar of your Wiki link to Pilgrim's book. But the little kerfuffle piqued my interest, and I found your actual entry via your user page (under /temp). So two things:

  1. You originally wrote the review for Amazon, right? Are you sure Amazon doesn't assert copyright on reviews posted there? Sounds sleazy to do so, but I seem to remember something along those lines. If so, just writing it might not be enough to release it to WP.
  2. If you feel like writing a WP entry on my book (also linked to in the references), I'd be more than happy to tell the publisher to send you a reviewer copy. Like Mark's book, mine is free-as-in-beer in the electronic version, but available for money on paper. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 12:51, 2005 Jun 8 (UTC)

Emma Goldmann[edit]

Thank you for for trapping my oversight and drawing it to my attention. The fault was entirely mine. I did check the wikisource page, but my attention must have wandered.—Theo (Talk) 1 July 2005 10:41 (UTC)

  • Theo, thanks for the reply - you'll inspire me to do better with my conversation with others here! John Elder 2 July 2005 09:35 (UTC)

Dive Into Python[edit]

Hi, I edited the page you created, I hope you don't mind. Wow your profile is crazy how can you have so much energy to do so much! Looks like you're pretty active. I personally like Art Bell and his show but I know it's all crazy nonsense that's still fun to listen too. Anyways, I like Python too.(Bjorn Tipling 06:35, 30 December 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Untagged image[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:Eisenach-Coat of Arms.gif, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 18:18, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Eisenach-Coat of Arms.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eisenach-Coat of Arms.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:57, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article Dive Into Python has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages[edit]

Dear Author/JohnElder

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Avascular Necrosis. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Crooks Peak.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Crooks Peak.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ Rob13Talk 00:35, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
