Photo Request[edit]

Hi Gaz, I am currently looking for an image of the Gateway Bridge Brisbane, and I stumbled accross your picture on Wikipedia. I would really like this image in a high res format that is suitable for print. If possible could you email me a copy of this? Falcon1978 06:48, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

APEC[edit]

I just went by how their official website listed these countries. They used the conventional short form for all of them except for Brunei, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. This especially matters for the latter two since the name they used (especially in the case of "Chinese Taipei") would determine whether they would allowed to become a member. The "Republic of China" would never be allowed to become a member - only Chinese Taipei would. Our footer needs to reflect that. And since listed the names used by APEC for Hong Kong and the two Chinas, we might as well do so for Brunei, for consistency sake. --Jiang 18:59, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)

As I see, you are directly responsible for this article having been created — I was nonplussed to see Adam Carr, whose interests seem to be more in the political articles, has written it. Good call!

But now... we need a picture of the beast, of course! I haven't found any non-copyrighted ones on the web: how about a weekend trip to Tasmania and donating Wikipedia a handful of nice pictures of the Spotted Quoll?

(Only half joking — my experiences with asking for permission for other pictures have been so far unsuccessful, so I fear this would actually be the easiest way to get one :-)

Hi Gaz. Looks fine as-is to me. But I'm brain-dead today. I (perhaps rather foolishly) volunteered to code the HTML of a reasonably extensive web page for a landcare group recently. Haven't done any serious HTML for quite a while. Very rusty. Been working on it most of the weekend. Eyes falling out, brain fuzzy, could get quite serious about a beer or two, some gentle excercise, and some sleep. Adrian User:Apingstone is the main man for images. But you already know that. Best. Tannin (Oh, and I put "Australia" rather than somewhere more specific because I have taken to travelling a lot lately. Next month - I hope - WA. Only state I've never been to. But the indecision is killing me. It's been raining up the Cooper and for he first time in a long while the Channel Country wetlands will be in full of life and growth. I shouldn't miss that opportunity. But I fear it's not practicable without 4WD.)

Hi Gaz,
I'm just wondering what exposure/aperture/settings you used for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BrisbaneByNight2004.jpg

A request[edit]

Gary - do you have higher resolution versions of Image:Great Ocean Road 1.jpg and Image:Great Ocean Road 2.jpg? I *love* them, and I'd like to nominate them on the featured pics, but I think a larger version would help. →Raul654 19:26, May 5, 2004 (UTC)

Transcriber[edit]

Transcriber [1] is the same as transcriptionist, and I intended it to include both people willing to notate music and type up audio, if the need for either should ever arrive. A list of polylinguists would be great, but I am not one. Hyacinth 20:27, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Sunset[edit]

Holy cow. I'll wait a little bit to avoid overwhelming FPC with weather photos, but both your excellent photo and the other shot on sunset are stunning illustrations--I've seen nice sunset photos before, but these are really exceptional! Image license[edit]

Hi,

Your image Image:Dominoes.jpg is currently used in the wikipedia repository of free images Wikipedia:List_of_images, but doesn't actually have proper licensing information attached to it. Would you mind adding a license tag to it? Thanks, Wilke 21:17, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Image:MerivaleBridge.jpg[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for adding the image Image:MerivaleBridge.jpg. It currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, and I was hoping that you would add one as untagged images may be deleted eventually. (You can use gfdl to license it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks! --Diberri | Talk 18:05, Sep 1, 2004 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:AustNationalHwyMap.png. You mentioned that you got permission from the webmaster. Do you know if the webmaster gave permission only for Wikipedia to use, with no third-party use allowed, or if he gave permission for it to be licensed under the GFDL so that Wikipedia could use it? RFC pages on VfD[edit]

Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:43, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Request[edit]

Hi Gaz,

My name is Fernanda Viégas and I have been studying Wikipedia for a while now (you can see a paper I published on the subject here). I would like to ask you a few questions about your activities as a Wikipedia image creator. I am fascinated by the pictorial side of Wikipedia and it would be great to hear about this community from one of its members. Would you be available to participate an email survey this week? Thanks, — Fernanda 03:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC) | talk[reply]

Hi again, Gaz. I have started sending out the questionnaire to participants in the study and it would be great if you could participate too. If you'd like to get in touch with me via email, please use the "Email this user" feature on my page. Thanks! — Fernanda 21:20, 4 April 2006 (UTC) | talk[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:190px-Greece-Cat.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:190px-Greece-Cat.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 00:27, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:WilsonsPromLightstation750.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

Thanks for uploading Image:WalterTaylorBridge.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. File:MooloolabaSkyline.jpg needs authorship information[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:MooloolabaSkyline.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the own template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:17, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of change[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture[edit]

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:TwelveApostles-Gaz.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi, This image was seemingly uploaded prior to current image polices, Thank you.

However, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure all media on English Wikipedia is correctly licensed and attributed it would be appreciated if you were able to confirm, that it was your own work, by marking it as own, amending the information added by a third party, and by changing the license to an appropriate "self" variant. This will assist those reviewing the many many "free" images on commons that have not yet been transfered to Commons. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 15:47, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
