Falkirk Council[edit]

Is there any particular reason you're filling the Falkirk council article with details about the current council budget cuts? WP:NOTNEWS Ultimately you can go back every couple of years and see similar stories about budget cuts and service changes in the press, but long term they have no real encyclopedic significance. [1] [2] Meanwhile you reference it to the closing of toilets which again are a small issue of non-encyclopedic nature even if it has been covered by the news. Nearly every local authority has similar decisions they've made [3] (Perth & Kinross closed theirs decades ago) but they haven't made their way into their wiki article because it remains irrelevant. I'd ask you to consider removing it, or at least start the process of getting wider community feedback on its inclusion. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 15:16, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The closing of the toilets is indeed a local issue and as you argue, similar decisions are made by other councils. I will therefore remove it. However, the massive council shortfall of its budget, covered by multiple news sources across a large date range does not fall under WP:NOTNEWS . It definitely meets WP notability re significant coverage, depth and important in the context, especially the independent audit element so believe that should remain. Coldupnorth (talk) 15:31, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thinking further, I've added the BBC resource you supplied and made a change of emphasis to highlight the ongoing issue. The budget issue has clearly been going on much longer than I realised and therefore not a news event but a comprehensive part of the subject that constitutes Falkirk Council as an article. Coldupnorth (talk) 15:40, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anda again every council in the UK is facing a proportional shortfall because of the current economic climate. [4] [5] [6] It will be covered in many reliable sources, but it's not unique to Falkirk and will only have a temporary significance as national budgets increase or decrease. The shortfall this year is unconnected with the 2018 one (which has all but been forgotten as this one bites), and it in turn was unconnected with the 2016 one and so on back as far as there has been local government (Here's one for the previous Central Region Council in 1996 [7]).

They are all just part and parcel of local Governments. There are serious questions about WP:Recent and WP: Proportion if you're adding detail about budget problems this year, but not any other year, or all the years when the budget balanced. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 18:30, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Stuart.Jamieson I do not believe you are correct. Furthermore why come at me personally on my talk page. These points should be discussed on the article talk page. I can then present my point of view and find additional references. I see by your user page that you are a resident of Falkirk and also an SNP supporter, who are the council in power. I am sure it is no coincidence that you are trying to find arguments against the inclusion of text and multiple reference from news sites that show a clearly defined and huge area of responsibility of this particular council. I do not believe that you are capable of neutrality in this respect and are clearly trying to avoid anything negative whatsoever on the Falkirk Council article, even when clearly supported by verifiable references from three newspapers. Coldupnorth (talk) 19:07, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My neutrality is exactly why I haven't immediately set about making edits to the page, other than to revert the original out insignificant toilet issue, and approached you with concerns about the nature of your edits. If you want it moved to the talk page I will by all means and will list it for further discussion, like I suggested you did in my first note to you.
There's no doubt about there being reliable information about what you're adding, only concern that the information is only temporary and will change again as budgets change in future years? will you be adding information about those future budgets? have you added information about every previous budget since 1997? This is absolutely undue coverage of their budget this year in comparison to other local authorities this year, and the same authority in other years. Stuart.Jamieson (talk) 08:25, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your concerns but would ask why don't you work with me to balance out the content? Look at finding sources and information on the council over it's history to build a broad article. I appreciate why you may see its undue coverage, I don't think it is but may I recommended we look to add more resources and text. It should be a contributive expanding process. As it stands, the Falkirk Council article had one reference, now it has 8 references. Why don't we work together to make a better article? Coldupnorth (talk) 09:52, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

HQS Wellington[edit]

Following the news of the departure of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners from HQS Wellington, both articles have been updated. I see that you much improved the former last year with good referencing, whereas the ship's article languishes with a lack of inline citations, despite an extensive bibliograpy. As most of the sources are unavailable to me, I wonder whether you could consider a similar improvement to the HCMM section of that article. Davidships (talk) 09:50, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted[edit]

Hi Coldupnorth, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:08, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the user right. I will continue to maintain a high standard when creating new articles.
