Hey there, I saw you put a lot of text into the history of the Ceredigion, I was wondering where it's all from because it mentions Encyclopedia Britannia at the top. (You might want to read Wikipedia:Cite sources - it's important we have references so everything is verifiable!)

I was thinking perhaps we should split the text up slightly, most of it relates to Cardigan or Cardiganshire - the first constituency with the name Ceredigion was created in 1997.

Regards, Joolz 17:01, 12 July 2005 (UTC) (PS: you can reply on your talk page here, thanks)[reply]

I hope I have this right, if not then HELP! The iniital comment from the Enclyopedia Brittianica is from the CD - Rom version, however the rest of the article comes from my own research using a book that is only available in print in the UK.

The constituency of Ceredigion has the following history:

1832 - 1885 Ceredigion County and Borough 1885 - 1983 Ceredigion County (known as Cardiganshire in English) 1983 - 1992 Ceredigion and Pembroke North 1997 - 2005 Ceredigion

Thanks for the reply! (By the way, you can sign comments you make by typing ~~~~) - I think the official name for the constituency was Cardigan/Cardiganshire rather than Ceredigion. What I suggest is having articles on Cardiganshire which would cover the history of the Cardiganshire constituency 1832-1983, an article on Cardigan which would cover the Cardigan borough constituency 1832-1885 and an article on Ceredigion and Pembroke North which would cover the 1983-1992 period. From 1997 onwards we should use the Ceredigion article. This way it's clear for everyone, the official names would be used because I suspect that's what he'd have been called, and also refered to in the Commons, splitting it up like this would make sure everything is clear. I've moved some of the biographical details of the MPs to their own articles, by the way. Oh, lastly, we need to make sure we cite sources so the information is verifiable! It would be great if you could put the books you've used for the information in a ==References== section on the page. Thanks! Joolz 17:49, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Querying my vote[edit]

Hello, Harry Hayfield. Thanks for your inquiry. According to Kate's Tool, you currently have 158 edits, several of which were made after the start of the elections (January 9). I double-checked this manually, counting your edits, and the number prior to January 9 was indeed less than 150. The suffrage rules state that a voter must have registered prior to September 30 and made more than 150 edits by the start of the election (January 9); thus, you do not have suffrage in this election. While I understand your frustration (I myself was denied suffrage in the last Board election) and the possible confusion of the last-minute rule change (the 150 edit requirement was added on the day before the elections started, something which I opposed), there's nothing I can do about it. I hope you understand that, and thanks for your understanding. If there's anything else I can answer for you, please don't hesistate to ask. Thanks! No, that's quite all right thanks. I just wasn't aware of the complexities of the rules Harry Hayfield 22:00, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that Harry, I thought you were well over the requirements. I wonder if you had anon edits before that which could be counted, but anyway thanks for your support. David | Talk 22:27, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dunfermline and West Fife by-election, 2006[edit]

Hi Harry. Thanks for your contributions. Just a note about the line you put in the by-election article: "As the date has now been set for February 9th 2006, I will post tomorrow the actual moving of the writ from Hansard." Comments like this - in the first person and about potential changes to the article - should be in the edit summary or on the talk page, but not in the article itself. Thanks. --Whouk (talk) 11:15, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. It would be fine to put in a line like "The text of the writ has yet to be published" if you're planning to put it in once it has. The main thing to avoid is using "I" in an article. Cheers. --Whouk (talk) 23:15, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Swingometer_1992.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Swingometer_1992.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Page move[edit]

Hi Harry. Your page move from Moray (Scottish Parliament constituency) to Moray by-election 2006 puzzled me as the two subjects are very different, and there is already an article for the by-election at Moray by-election, 2006 which will expand as the by-election continues (cf. Dunfermline and West Fife by-election, 2006 and Dunfermline and West Fife (UK Parliament constituency)). Consequently, I've suggested on the article Talk page that the article be moved back to Moray (Scottish Parliament constituency) and that Moray by-election 2006 be redirected to Moray by-election, 2006. Please add your comments and support/oppose this suggestion on Talk:Moray by-election 2006. Thanks. —Whouk (talk) 15:24, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UK blizzard, 2006 deletion nomination[edit]

AfD nomination of UK blizzard, 2006[edit]

I've nominated UK blizzard, 2006, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that UK blizzard, 2006 satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UK blizzard, 2006 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of UK blizzard, 2006 during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Missing Calculations[edit]

Hey Harry =)

I think if you put a source to the calculations for the Boundary Changes in the article, that should be alright.

My fear is the next UK general election article is now spreading somewhat wide and may have to be cut down once your sourced section goes in. I may put a note on the article's talk page to ask for ideas on how to keep the article within reasonable, er, boundaries =)

General election articles[edit]

Hi -

I've removed some blank sections you added to various articles on general elections in the UK. If you were planning to add information, then please feel free to add them back in at that time. Warofdreams talk 02:53, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was indeed, yes, but needed to find the materials to add to them Harry Hayfield 08:43, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you requested a peer review for the article on the 1983 general election. Did you intend to add this to Wikipedia:Peer review, or did you intend it as a request for help with just one section of the article? If it's the latter, I'd be happy to help - just leave a message on my talk page. Warofdreams talk 02:47, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pass! Basically, what I am trying to do is to find out the best way of producing that information in the form a table, that I can then adjust to match all the other tables. Harry Hayfield 08:36, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:UK_2005.gif.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UK_2005.gif.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Next United Kingdom general Election[edit]

Harry

Thanks for the input to the UK general election page, but I think the Target list is perhaps too much...The article is already too large as it is, and if you include three of four tables per party, it's going to get quite difficult to manage.

Can I request you include just the top 10 targets for each party? I am going to move the boundary stuff to a new page to avoid the size issues. I think you should do something with the target tables to help keep the article managable

Cheers

doktorb wordsdeeds 07:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly, you see that's the problem the Conservatives have. They need 112 gains just to get a majority of 1! Harry Hayfield 09:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tables[edit]

Hi -

Thanks for your contributions. Article pages aren't a good place to put requests for help; that's what the talk pages are for. Table syntax is a little complex, and if you don't feel ready to attempt it, could I suggest either posting data on talk pages and requesting assistance, or (better still) using a simpler format - just start each line of data with a * to produce a new line starting with a bullet. If you've got any other queries on this, don't hesitate to ask me. Warofdreams talk 01:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Does that look better on the 1964 General Election? Harry Hayfield 20:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that looks good. Warofdreams talk 10:37, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am not the best on tables either! I get stuck, but using existing tables I copy them and try to modify for my own use. doktorb wordsdeeds 13:33, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Rigadon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Rigadon.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:Titles 1987.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Titles 1987.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ilse@ 11:35, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for adding a fair use rationale. I believe the purpose of use is still too unspecific, since every image is used to illustrate articles. I believe that the purpose of use should explain why a certain image is used (fair use) in a specific article. – Ilse@ 11:53, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Steep Holm.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Steep Holm.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

National Assembly for Wales 2007 boundary changes[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article National Assembly for Wales 2007 boundary changes, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of National Assembly for Wales 2007 boundary changes. Image source problem with Image:Steep Holm.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Steep Holm.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:48, 23 May 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:48, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source/license for Image:Bob Mathias (USA).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bob Mathias (USA).jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Image copyright problem with Image:Willy Fog.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Willy Fog.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Warwickshire Council election, 2009[edit]

Hi, have you got a reference for the summary information you supplied at Warwickshire Council election, 2009. I can find detail information in a couple of places but no summary information. Keith D (talk) 00:18, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, when it comes to sources I can't remember how to do it. The source is http://info.warwickshire.gov.uk/rss/elections09-rss.xml Harry Hayfield (talk) 21:26, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I located that page but could not find the summary detail that you created. Did you add up the figures from each result to get the summary table? Keith D (talk) 23:04, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did indeed plus that information was published in all national papers and online at www.bbc.co.uk/elections09 the following day Harry Hayfield (talk) 18:51, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ceredigion County Council election, 2012 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced article making claims about a future event with no evidence of its existence at all

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, Harry Hayfield. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Ceredigion County Council election, 2017, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Meatsgains (talk) 16:45, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

East Antrim[edit]

What's this edit to East Antrim (UK Parliament constituency) all about? If I didn't know you better I'd have thought vandalism? Valenciano (talk) 21:31, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sammy Wilson (former DUP MP for Antrim East) was duly nominated yesterday as Sammy Samuel in the official documentation released by the Electoral Office of Northern Ireland. I was therefore merely updating the candidate list to be accurate and cited the document Harry Hayfield (talk) 15:29, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The EONI list doesn't mention Sammy Samuel (Sammy is a short form of Samuel anyway) and the reference you provided is from a 1986 science journal. Valenciano (talk) 19:19, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so I don't know how to cite something. I have since been informed that the EONI list you have is a later version than the one released at the time of editing, and that Sammy Wilson has been duly nominated and replaced the Sammy Samuel (which they have apologised for as a clerical error) Harry Hayfield (talk) 17:52, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. Easy to do and the fault lies with EONI, was just checking. Valenciano (talk) 19:38, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Henry Willink[edit]

The page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Willink contains a link to a Conservative Party sponsored organisation and has been used in the campaign for the election. Could someone please verify the information attached to the citiation? Harry Hayfield (talk) 08:10, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
