Images and media for deletion[edit]

I am contacting people who previously helped to vote to delete a generally objectionable photograph by a vote of 88 to 21, and who might be unaware that immediately after that image was voted to be deleted someone posted another which was very similar in content. My objections to this, and the previous image that was voted to be deleted might be based upon reasons far different from any that you have, but I do object to it, and consider the posting of such images to be acts of asinine stupidity, which burdens the project and its major educational aims in ways that they should not be burdened, and can be extremely detrimental to the acceptance and growth of WIkipedia's use and influence. Thus far those who I believe to be in the extreme minority of Wikipedians who would like to include these images, many who have been channeled to the voting page from the article with which it is associated have dominated the voting, 23 to 12 (as of the time that I composed this message). I would like to be somewhat instrumental in shedding a bit more light upon the issue, and if possible, helping to turn the tide against its inclusion. It might also be necessary to begin making an effort to establish an explicit Wikipedia policy against explicit photographic depictions of humans engaged in erotic, auto-erotic, or quasi-erotic activities. To my limited knowledge such images have not been accepted as appropriate anywhere else within this project, and frankly I can agree with those who are casually labeled prudes for opposing their inclusion, that they should not be. Vitally important information that might be unwelcome by some is one thing that should never be deleted, but un-needed images that can eventually prevent or impede many thousands or millions of people from gaining access to the great mass of truly important information that Wikipedia provides is quite another matter. There are vitally important distinctions to be made. Whatever your reasons, or final decisions upon the matter, I am appealing for more input on the voting that is occurring at Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion. ~ Achilles 04:33, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello MechBrowman

You just edited the Otterberg page that I created. I tried to make the link to the German site work as you now have it, but the entire link disappears from the page like that. I did some searching and the instructions say you must have the leading colon in order for it to work. Once I did that, it showed up and worked fine. Before I change it back, I wanted to make sure that there's not something that I am missing here as I am just starting on Wikipedia. Thanks!

In regards to your response to my question: Aha! I didn't see it over there - thank you so much for the explanation!

Tdoyle 22:57, 14 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Salve!
I nominated W. Mark Felt as a WP:FAC. As you commented on the Deep Throat talk page, I'd appreciate your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/W. Mark Felt/archive1. PedanticallySpeaking 15:48, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

Titanic related images[edit]

In reply to your message: "Hi BartBenjamin, could you put the copyright information for Image:Californian.jpg and Image:Carpathia.jpg?"

Done!

Order of Canada FAC's[edit]

I was wondering what phrases should I bold in both articles you commented on: Appointment to the Order of Canada and Removal from the Order of Canada. I am fixing up the Ahenakew section in the Removal article. Thanks. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 23:55, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I knew what was going on with Note/Ref 17 at Removal from the Order of Canada: I spelled Constitution wrong. Is there anything else I can do to fix the article? Zscout370 (Sound Off) 07:55, 5 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good work, see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Removal from the Order of Canada for my last comment, and I hope other people read and vote. MechBrowman 13:59, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

RMS Titanic[edit]

I am using Russian translation of A Night To Remember book by Walter Lord. Translation is published by Leningrad publishing house "Судостроительство" ("Shipbuilding") specializing on naval books. Ilya K 08:50, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sociocultural evolution renominated[edit]

Since the last voting was a draw, I have renominated the article (Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Sociocultural evolution). Lead has been signifcantly shortened (which doesn't actually make it better IMHO but this was a popular complaint so I gave up on opposing that). I'd appreciate your input, especially as you voted during the last nom. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 17:51, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Philadelphia Project[edit]

Hi i have noticed that you have edited several articles on subjects related to the Philadelphia area. Several other users and myself have got together to creak a project to help improve, expand, and create articles concerning the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley region. While our project is still new, we are inviting people to join us to help it get started off on the right foot. You can find the project at Wikipedia:WikiProject Philadelphia, feel free to add your name and drop off an suggestions that you might have. If you have any questions, drop me a line anytime. Thanks. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 04:11, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sunset Blvd.[edit]

I have restored my comment on the name of the film, and just to please you, I have added a reference. This is very well known among film buffs. It is so well known, in fact, that the name Sunset Blvd. is given in the first line of the article. For consistency, shouldn't you have removed that too?

Thanks for edits[edit]

Re: San Francisco Call. I created it last night, simply because I quote the paper a lot in re: to Philippine-American War Thanks for cleaning up the page--it reads and looks much better now. Travb 06:16, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Two Thumbs Up[edit]

for your work on my Mary Lawrence article. And, okay, the Titanic jibe about Francis David Millet ["Frank" in my version, so thanks for doing that link too] that you cut didn't really need to be there anyway. However the guy did have an issue about women in the art world - that I might or might not get into on his page, but he made up for it later - you know, 'Women and children first." Carptrash 03:11, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to be one of those who DOES cite references because I'm a book person with a pretty good sized art library at home. I've even managed to find a couple of pre-1923 [which I think makes them copyright free] photos of one or two of Millet's paintings. I'm also sending out emails to rights holders of more recent stuff that is in color, but have not heard back yet. Carptrash 15:15, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Conditional Support Great article, but I wish there was more about the filming of the film. The major issues are the footnotes need to be put in the same order they appear in the main article. I think there are two or three too many images from films inspired by Triumph of the Will, you don't need this much. If an article was wikilinked within the article it shouldn't be in the See Also section. I'm also not thrilled about linking within the article to sites outside wikipedia, but thats not a major issue. Also does this article really need a spolier tag? Its a documentary, there is nothing to spoil. Otherwise good work. MechBrowman 18:21, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Took care of spoiler tag (Was originally on there as a joke), non-wikipedia links, extra images, and footnotes. Trying to expand the filming, but haven't found much else to put in (Although I did increase the "Origins" section). Regarding "See Also": I was under the impression that those were other articles worth reading, in addition to the main one. If not, I think the entire section can be deleted. Bulbasaur has been gone through with a fine toothcomb by a few editors and I feel your concern here has been addressed. Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 12:40, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Titanic[edit]

I thought you were just a tad dismissive with my edits to the watertight compartments bit. Care to think again? Guinnog 19:06, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you have eliminated part of my information about the salvage company. I think this info is pertinent, but instead of just reverting your edit, I have created a new section ownership. All info there is based on public documents and it's relevant, so I see no reason to eliminate it again. You have been using the ref tag instead of my direct links. Looks like just a question of style to me and more complicated. Anyway, as long as the link itself is not eliminated, I don't mind. I looked the tag up in the help section and didn't find how to use it. Perhaps you can help. --Toscanaman 11:25, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The reference to the court decision was already there. I moved it up to the word "decision" now.--Toscanaman 00:54, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You proposed: I was thinking, what do you think about merging the Ownership and litigation information back into the Rediscovery of the wreck as a summary and moving the Ownership and litigation into a brand new article about RMS Titanic Inc.? MechBrowman 23:45, 4 February 2006 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Toscanaman"

Not a bad idea. Let me find the time to do it well. Or do you already have a concrete proposal? You can contact me on skype chat, user toscana --Toscanaman 15:28, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See reply on my page. --Toscanaman 09:06, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although I supported your deletion of the controversy section, I disagree wholeheartedly with the removal of the deleted scenes and spoofs sections as there are plenty of less-notable films that include them. I have started a snap poll on the Talk Page. I invite you to state your case (perhaps citing Wikipedia policy if available) as to why these sections are "unencyclopaedic". I have seen people try to argue (without success) that film and TV articles en masse are unencyclopaedic. 23skidoo 05:53, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Titanic head on sugestion[edit]

Hello u aked in the RMS Titanic discussion of whether the ship going head on at the collision would have saved it, but personally i don't think so. the ship was sailing at 21.5 knots and the iceberg weighed about 270.000 tonnes so at that speed the iceberg would have went through the ship and punctured about ten compartments, and the bridge and the wireless room would have been flooded in seconds, leaving no chance of an SOS, so in my opinion it was better to try and avoid it. If you have comments about this scenario let me know B06Todd.

AfD nomination of Titanic alternative theories[edit]

I have nominated Titanic alternative theories, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Titanic alternative theories (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
