Grammys

By the way, on the subject of jazz Grammys, do you think I'm right to spilt the general awards from the instrumental awards? For example, the award for "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album" has switched between using the word instrumental or not several times over the years (see User:Sannse/Grammy to-do list again). I'm wondering whether I should put them all together (less articles, better flow over the years) or split them into two articles (keeping different awards separate). I'm not sure what's best. I've thought on this some more, and I'm leaning toward separate pages. Which, of course, means more pages. But somehow I like the idea of that better than mixing multiple ideas together on one page. So, for example, in the years where "Best Jazz Instrumental Thingie" or whatever is given separately for an individual and a group, the individual category would get its own page, and both pages would have a "See also..." link. How about this as an alternative? User:Sannse/Grammy to-do list/jazz alternative. It lists the "solo" and "solo or group" separately, but combines "jazz" and "jazz instrumental". That seems to keep the flow of the years consistent. What do you think? -- sannse (talk) 23:13, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hispanic American

For the record, Ames, Iowa is a college town. So a significant portion of the hispanic population is not American. --Ben Brockert 21:28, Jul 13, 2004 (UTC)

The edit was to disamiguate the word "Hispanic," the page for which is now a disambiguation page. I think the term "Hispanic American" is correct in the given context, namely U.S. Census figures. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

I agree to [[Wikipedia:Multi-licensing|multi-license]] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:

Non-standard album infobox

I came across your userpage (User:LarryGilbert/Album template), which contains an Album infobox with a non-standard album type. Because of this, your userpage is listed at Category:Non-standard album infoboxes. May I ask that you either adjust the infobox type, or delete the infobox entirely? why bother? (Syngman Rhee photo)

I notice you couldn't wait to delete the image of Syngman Rhee because according to you...

The evidence given in the upload and the original web page is not enough for me to say with certainty whether it's in the public domain or not.

Well for you information it had been on that page for a long time without a single problem. Certainly there haven't been any angry copyright holder chasing after WP for rights infringement or anyone claiming ownership of the image. It was just an image that had great historical significance, as it showed the first President of the Republic of Korea taking office.

Now personally I didn't have a vested interest in the picture or that page, but what it does show, is how an all-editors-are-equal project like WP doesn't work.

There are too many people like you on this site, the Rules lawyer who rather than contribute anything meaningful, i.e. information that ALL can benefit from. Use the limited powers they have to garner some satisfaction by withdrawing or deconstructing valuable resources because "rules are rules".

Did you ever consider that the uploader was probably not a native English speaker? Possibly Korean, after all? Didn't you try to "amend" the image's copyright status, or is that too much effort? Or is it just easier and simpler, within your life model, to arbitrarily delete images as you're ability to extrapolate is always too much "for me to say" !?

By being such a person, don't you think you should seriously question you're long term contributions to WP and whether your actions are selflessly benefiting a wider audience with useful additions to a free-learning database?

Dear anonymous user, I do not have the power to delete images. I changed the "public domain" tag (which did not apply) to the {{pui}} tag (which did apply). I do not know which editor ultimately took action on that image. --LarryGilbert (talk) 22:11, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Also, if you look at the Possibly unfree files page, you'll see that photos have to be left available for at least two weeks of public discussion before they are removed, and that they cannot be removed unless no one has provided any supporting information during that time. No one commented, so it was deleted. Now, Wikipedia does make an allowance for "fair use" (as defined by U.S. law) under some instances, but correct copyright information is still required in order to do that. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed.
