Connolley 13:36, 2004 Mar 29 (UTC)) Many women lived and died in these institutions with little hope of escape. - the article should make clear whether this was because they were physically restrained from leaving, or because societal pressures were such that they would have starved outside, or whether they were too unenterprising to leave. At the moment the text implies that they were imprisoned - but this seems unlikely.
