Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Draft:Hook (2022 TV series)

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – The IP keeps requesting a review without addressing the issue. —Saqib (talk | contribs) 15:25, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Saqib has misused the rights as reviewer and is biased in his judgments as expressed in User_talk:Liz#Request_for_Investigation_of_User:Saqib. 182.182.97.3 (talk) 15:29, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These pages seriously need locking down because the IP keeps asking for re-reviews without addressing the issues raised on the relevant talk page which is akin to Wikipedia:DISRUPTIVE. —Saqib (talk | contribs) 18:47, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have not looked close enough to determine if a request to protect this draft is valid. However, I will say this IP is part of a larger UPE sock farm and we will be dealing with their bludgeoning of this draft (and others) unless a protection is made. And while it is unlikely to stop them, hopefully it will slow them for a while.--CNMall41 (talk) 19:33, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft:Wonderland (Pakistani TV series)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – The IP keeps requesting a review without addressing the issue. —Saqib (talk | contribs) 15:26, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Rangiya railway division

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 16:14, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 03:08, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Han Chinese

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Leonidlednev (T, C, L) 02:59, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. The IP's /64 has been globally locked. The named account now says it's not registered on this wiki. Daniel Case (talk) 03:35, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    BRAC_(organisation)

    Reason: 103.108.60.153 Ullan364 (talk) 04:37, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 06:31, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User talk:AlphaBetaGamma

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Talk page disruption returned after I resumed edits and anti-vandal activities. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 05:13, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    1960 United States presidential election

Reason: An edit war is happening over whether to include "Unpledged electors" as a candidate in the election wikibox. There should be a revision of the edit and temporary protection to allow for a proper consensus over the issue to be reached. V. L. Mastikosa (talk) 05:46, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 05:49, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Globsyn Business School

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism. Grabup (talk) 05:55, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Why ECP- protection? The IP should be warned, and reported at AIV at need. Lectonar (talk) 07:03, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Israeli invasion of Rafah

Reason: Currently unprotected but is a contentious topic, however, protecting it now might be preemptive protection. -322UbnBr2 (Talk | Contributions | Actions) 05:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

2024 University of California, Los Angeles pro-Palestinian campus occupation

Reason: Please reduce it to semi protection. I am a UCLA prof, my students have learned to edit Wikipedia and are keen to contribute. I created the article. But they are new so extended confirmation has blocked their edit access. Noopur28 (talk) 17:56, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Noopur28, the article is protected by an arbitration decision (WP:CT/A-I) and can't really be unprotected. Or rather, if it was technically unprotected so that your students could edit it, their edits would be immediately reverted by others enforcing the still-existing prohibition on their editing.
Encourating students relatively new to Wikipedia (less than 500 edits or less than 30 days account age) to jump into such a contentious topic is almost certainly a bad idea; you'd either need to supervise them in a way that would make them an army of meatpuppets of your own account, or let them edit without such supervision and end up in various heated Wikipedia conflicts due to their lack of experience.
The protection serves a useful purpose and those students who actually possess the needed Wikipedia experience to edit such pages are already able to do so.
You may already be aware of Wikipedia:Student_assignments#Advice_for_instructors, but I'll link it here for the sake of completeness. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:33, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Not done ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:33, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for picking up the slack, ToBeFree. I tried to advise them on my talk page, but I'm just swamped today, so probably did a poor job at it. El_C 22:59, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, El_C. I guess depending on how the advice was taken, we may later see a request at WP:PERM/EC from a 5-edit account which can't really be answered in another way than "Sorry, no, this is too early", but that's quickly done. I'm currently a bit worried about the "Unknown author" Wikimedia Commons uploads from Noopur28's account and would normally have marked them with "No source" tags, but I don't want to come down like a ton of bricks endlessly lecturing someone who outside of the Wikipedia bubble would be in a good position to explain the world to me. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:07, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hear ya, hard to find that sweet spot between overwhelming and laconic. But your advice above is a informative and well-rounded, so kudos. El_C 23:20, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    😄💚 ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:22, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noopur here. the Wikimedia no author entries are because I’m collecting protest media from various profs on the ground and they can’t be arsed to make their own accounts. Pls see my history with wiki projects of various flavors. I’ve done photo walks before etc. nothing to worry. 2603:8001:72F0:7DA0:C876:110A:C5B5:45A3 (talk) 03:25, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Obamaism

Reason: see WP:AFCRD#Redirect request: Obamaism. This was salted as a repeatedly recreated neologism but is a plausible redirect to Political positions of Barack Obama. Salter is no longer active. Queen of Hearts (talk) 05:45, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Israel–Hamas war

A grammar fix is required for a sentence in the second paragraph of the article:

"During this attack, 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals including 766 civilians and 373 security personnel were killed, while 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken captive to the Gaza Strip with the stated goal to force Israel to release Palestinian prisoners"

Change "goal to force Israel to" to "goal of forcing Israel to" Aadamwaheed (talk) 20:57, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Talk:Israel-Hamas war

I would like to request the addition of a talk page on the Israel-Hamas war article that points out that the map on said article doesn’t show the Israeli evacuation order from Rafah and should be updated. LordOfWalruses (talk) 21:45, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
