Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Libertas/Evidence

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anyone, whether directly involved or not, may add evidence to this page. Please make a header for your evidence and sign your comments with your name.

When placing evidence here, please be considerate of the arbitrators and be concise. Long, rambling, or stream-of-conciousness rants are not helpful.

As such, it is extremely important that you use the prescribed format. Submitted evidence should include a link to the actual page diff; links to the page itself are not sufficient. For example, to cite the edit by Mennonot to the article Anomalous phenomenon adding a link to Hundredth Monkey use this form: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Anomalous_phenomenon&diff=0&oldid=5584644] [1].

This page is not for general discussion - for that, see talk page.

Please make a section for your evidence and add evidence only in your own section. Please limit your evidence to a maximum 1000 words and 100 diffs, a much shorter, concise presentation is more likely to be effective. Please focus on the issues raised in the complaint and answer and on diffs which illustrate behavior which relates to the issues.

If you disagree with some evidence you see here, please cite the evidence in your own section and provide counter-evidence, or an explanation of why the evidence is misleading. Do not edit within the evidence section of any other user.

Be aware that the Arbitrators may at times rework this page to try to make it more coherent. If you are a participant in the case or a third party, please don't try to refactor the page, let the Arbitrators do it. If you object to evidence which is inserted by other participants or third parties please cite the evidence and voice your objections within your own section of the page. It is especially important to not remove evidence presented by others. If something is put in the wrong place, please leave it for the arbitrators to move.

Evidence presented by Rhobite[edit]

12 Jan[edit]

  • 05:16
    • Within minutes of his first edits, Ollieplatt begins inserting POV: Calling both John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy "serial adulterers" [2] [3]
  • 06:24
    • Ollieplatt makes POV edits to Democratic Party (United States) and Russ Feingold. Edit summaries include "hey hey LBJ how many kids did you kill today" [4], "deleting excreta, flussh" [5], "this is shit, pure shit written by a blatant fan" [6], "snob effete snob" [7], "Feingold deserves a truthful article not one that kneels before him Lewinsky style" [8].
  • 06:43
    • I (Rhobite) warn Ollieplatt about making POV edits and personal attacks in edit summaries: [9]
  • 06:48
    • Ollieplatt continues making POV edits: [10], [11], claiming that Feingold is "low-profile" and has "low charisma". I believe these edits were borderline vandalism, and gave him a final warning on his talk page: [12]
  • 06:58
    • Ollie made this edit at approximately the same time that I gave him a final warning: [13]. I blocked him for 24 hours for vandalism. While I believe his edits and personal attacks were detrimental and disruptive to the encyclopedia, I have since apologized to him for blocking him prematurely.

13 Jan[edit]

  • 08:09
    • In his first edit after the 24 hour block expires, Ollieplatt files an RFC against me for blocking him, and posts messages to various unrelated pages in an effort to drum up support against me. The RFC was not certified and was deleted. It's available to admins at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Rhobite admin. Diff of ollie posting RFC: [14]. Spamming on the admin noticeboard: [15]. Ollie voted against VagueRant's adminship "until Rhobite withdraws his vote" [16]. Wrote to an anonymous vandal because I warned them for vandalizing articles: [17]. Message on an unrelated article I have edited: [18]. Message to other users and pages which are not involved in this dispute: [19], [20], [21], [22], [23],
  • 20:10
    • I apologize to Ollie for blocking him prematurely, and he accepts my apology [24], although he can't resist warning me "I will be reviewing your administrative actions to ensure you do not repeat your error." I told him he was free to review my actions - he responded "I hope that's the case, for your sake. You will be held accountable now." [25]

14 Jan[edit]

  • 02:35
    • Ollieplatt sends threatening messages to the users who endorsed my response on my RFC, implying that he will bring action against them for suggesting that he is a vandal: [26], [27], [28], [29]

15 Jan[edit]

  • 18:42
    • Immediately upon returning from his block, Ollieplatt submits a frivolous image copyright violation on an image which Rdsmith4 uploaded. This is retaliation for the block. [35], [36], [37], [38], [39]
  • 19:12
    • In retaliation for the single note I posted on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Iasson, Ollieplatt posts an outside summary defending the respondent (who is also not involved in this dispute) [40], and a message warning everyone that I'm "an administrator frequently accused of misusing his authority": [41]. The Iasson RFC talk page has since been turned into an offtopic argument about my conduct, as well as the U.S. First Amendment (?). Ollie has been warned several times about keeping it on topic, but he continues to argue about my conduct on a page where I have posted a single small comment. Ollieplatt has also posted two separate responses to the Iasson RFC, see Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Iasson
  • 19:46
    • Ollieplatt makes an edit to a page I've never edited, with the summary "correcting Rhobite's spelling errors". [42] This is the first indication that he believes Radicalsubversiv and I are the same person. [43]

16 Jan[edit]

  • 05:48
    • In the course of browsing RC, I start a VfD on a clearly non-encyclopedic page: [44]. Ollieplatt retaliates by voting "strong keep": [45]
  • 05:58
    • In the course of browsing VfD, I post a comment that I don't believe an article is original research: [46]. Ollieplatt retaliates by voting "Delete original research" [47]
  • 07:49
    • Ollieplatt suggests he has evidence that we're sockpuppets: [48]. It goes without saying that Radicalsubversiv and I are not the same person.

17 Jan[edit]

  • 02:05
    • Ollieplatt attempts to disrupt an unrelated Arbitration, adding a comment to the evidence page "I have proof Rhobite and Radicalsubversiv are the same user": [49]

Evidence presented by Radicalsubversiv[edit]

26 December 2004[edit]

  • 19:16, 26 Dec 2004
    • Libertas begins a long-running effort to insert anti-Communist phrasings into Soviet Union, and is immediately reverted by Che y Marijuana. Rather than responding on talk, Libertas quickly begins making even more POV edits to the article, provoking a major conflict with several other users, including 172, Paranoid, and Evercat.
      • Not exactly. I was never involved in any article-related conflict with Libertas. Evercat 13:16, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

27 December 2004[edit]

  • 11:03, 27 Dec 2004
    • Libertas changes a section heading on Ron Paul from "Controversial comments in newsletter about race" to "Ron Paul's Newsletter claims "Blacks are Barbarians"
  • 15:00, 27 Dec 2004
    • Responding to Paranoid on Talk:Soviet Union, Libertas writes: "Ask me to have to respect for the wall-builders and gulag-operators and politburo special lane drivers and I spit in your eye (figuratively at least!), you get the same treatment in history as Nazi Germany, a similarly evil regime." Libertas immediately adds to the attack by raising unrelated editing by Paranoid on the Vagina article. In response to further discussion, Libertas changes Paranoid's comments to call him a "sexist buffoon." In continuing discussion, Libertas writes:
      • "Wikipedia is great, we have a Stalinist sentry guarding Mother Russia's page. A Stalinist who writes hatefully about women, but in all other respects believes in socialist equality and who claims great wealth but is unwilling to implement his own distribution of wealth. Anyway, Stalin also didn't like debating and favored more drastic persuasion methods so I feel honored you indulge me." [50]
      • (Addressing Paranoid): "You can do stand up comedy in my gulag anyday, comrade." [51]

29 December 2004[edit]

  • 02:31, 29 Dec 2004
    • Libertas again brings up Paranoid's editing on unrelated articles to attack him on Talk:Soviet Union: "some other of your contributions are even more offensive, that imply children are capable of consenting to sexual intercourse. Shame on you."
  • 05:19, 29 Dec 2004
  • 23:31, 29 Dec 2004

30 December 2004[edit]

  • 08:26, 30 Dec 2004
  • 10:52, 30 Dec 2004
    • Libertas edits Ron Paul: "Ron Paul has asserted that US foreign policy was "an important reason 9/11 occurred." This is consistent with the views of Osama bin Laden who justified the attack on the same basis. Opponents of bin Laden argue that there can be no justification or excuse for mass murder." Continues making edits attempting to unfavorably compare Paul's statement with the unconnected alleged views of others over the next several days, and is repeatedly reverted by Radicalsubversiv. Infrogmation and Davenbelle concur on talk: [52], [53])
  • 17:31, 30 Dec 2004
    • Libertas edits Democratic centralism, changing "is a political concept" in the opening sentence to "is a misleading political slogan used by Communists".

31 December 2004[edit]

  • 06:59, 31 Dec 2004
    • Libertas makes a petty comment concerning an obvious but minor misstatement by 172, then twice reverts 172's attempt to correct it: [54], [55], [56])
  • 17:05, 31 Dec 2004
    • Libertas violates three-revert rule on History of post-Soviet Russia ([57], [58], [59], [60]), then removes note from Radicalsubversiv warning him about it: [61]. Is blocked by Pakaran. Posts note accusing Pakaron of bias in enforcing the 3RR: [62]. When Pakaran answers, posts another note falsely accusing him of violating policy: [63]. Posts a note asking Pakaran to block 172 for unspecified violations of unrelated and unfinished Request for arbitration: [64]

1 January 2005[edit]

  • 04:46, 1 Jan 2005
    • A new user, JackStack vandalizes 172's user page with a reference to Moon. User makes no further edits.

3 January 2005[edit]

  • 01:25, 3 Jan 2005
    • Libertas begins trolling Evercat by repeatedly requesting Evercat remove a comment from his userpage, even after he refuses. Removes request to stop trolling. Note that Libertas's userpage is full of far more incendiary comments. [65], [66], [67], [68], [69], [70].
  • 19:08, 3 Jan 2005
    • Libertas refers to other editors as "a residual Politburo".

4 January 2005[edit]

  • 18:13, 4 Jan 2005
    • Libertas needlessly posts a link to 172's arbitration case, saying it "indicates the credibility of 172".

5 January 2005[edit]

  • 08:14, 5 Jan 2005
  • 08:54, 5 Jan 2005
    • Libertas dredges up obscure article for the purpose of alleging that a source 172 cited is a Marxist. Concludes "There are two possibilities, 172 knew Cohen was a Marxist and lied about it or 172 did not know Cohen was a Marxist. I don't know which, and do not wish to speculate, and want to assume good faith, but I do know that 172's pretence at good scholarship must surely now come to an end." [71] Duplicates it on 172's talk page, after already posting a link there, to rub it in: [72] Uploads a new image, Image:Pinocchio.jpg, exclusively for the purpose of accusing 172 of lying.
  • 09:42, 5 Jan 2005
    • Libertas re-posts archived comments 172 made many months ago because they contain personal attacks (nothing germane to the actual dispute). [73], [74]

7 January 2005[edit]

  • 04:39, 7 Jan 2005
    • Libertas begins his POV editing of the major American political parties articles with a rewrite on Watergate, Ford, and Carter, and is immediately reverted by Khanartist. Libertas immediately reverts back and threatens "there's a lot more I'll be changing" if his changes are reverted again. Libertas then adds: "whose Southern officials enforced racial policies such as segregation and many other forms of racial supression" to a completely unrelated paragraph, and "(as defined by left-wing opponents)" to a paragraph describing the party's political principles. Libertas responds to Khanartist's comments on talk: "I am here to challenge the dominant leftist paradigm which is crippling Wikipedia's neutrality quest."
  • 05:06, 7 Jan 2005
    • Libertas posts a note on User_talk:Metahacker: "I think it's high time the Republican Party article cease being a POV fest. I'll back you up on any changes of a neutralizing kind. Let's roll."
  • 05:16, 7 Jan 2005
    • Libertas adds "Previously, the Democratic Party, particularly in the South, defended racial policies such as segregation which proscribed African Americans from fully participating in civic life. In recent decades, championed by Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, the Democrats repudiated their racist past" to an irrelevant paragraph on Democratic Party (United States). He then posts a note on Talk:Democratic Party (United States), saying: "I am puzzled that there is no detailed treatment of the Democratic Party's support for racial segregation here. Can we work on including a neutral reference to the Party's Klan ties, support for slavery and so on."
  • 06:47, 7 Jan 2005
  • 08:27, 7 Jan 2005
    • Libertas creates a fork article, Republican Party(Temp), and adds a link there from the disambiguation page Republican Party. He then pastes his rewrite from Republican Party(Temp) to Republican Party (United States), adding a number of obviously POV or otherwise inappropriate changes, such as (new phrases italicized):
      • "The Republican Party (often GOP for Grand Old Party) is the new majority party" (as the new opening sentence)
      • "Democratic Party, which supported slavery, with occasional factional disagreement."
      • "Today, the Republicans stand for small government, individual freedom and free-market capitalism along with national security, winning the War on Terror, family values, the reinvention of social security, a Pro-Life stance on abortion."
      • "Democratic rooster" to "Democratic cock"
      • "The ensuing election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 ended 60 years of dominance by slavery supporting Southern Democrats and thus ushered in a new era of Republican dominance based in the industrial north and on the end of slavery."
  • 11:12, 7 Jan 2005
  • 23:14, 7 Jan 2005
    • Responding to Meelar's request to discuss Libertas's changes to Republican Party (United States) individually on talk before adding them, Libertas reverts back to his version with the misleading edit summary "Meelar, yes I agree we can discuss the changes one at a time, anything you object to I'd be happy to discuss on Talk"

8 January 2005[edit]

  • 14:22, 8 Jan 2005
    • Libertas, in his second-to-last edit before disappearing, adds "particularly in light of the Democrats record of support for slavery and segregation in the south which many argue contributed to the oppression of African Americans for much of American history" to the lead paragraph of Democratic Party (United States).

9 January 2005[edit]

  • 01:53, 9 Jan 2005
    • New user Salazar appears and begins editing Republican Party (United States). After two relatively insignificant edits, Salazar edits the article to repeat Libertas's inaccurate claim that the entire Civil War-era Democratic Party was in favor of slavery.
  • 23:58, 9 Jan 2005
    • Salazar removes the "political principles" paragraph from Republican Party (United States), which Libertas had repeatedly sought to radically rewrite, and replaces it with phrases from the GOP 2004 platform, presented as objective statements about the party.

10 January 2005[edit]

  • 02:50, 10 Jan 2005

11 January 2005[edit]

12 January 2005[edit]

Evidence presented by Carnildo[edit]

16 January[edit]

  • 19:05
    • Ollieplatt inserted a complaint about RadicalSubversiv and Rhobite into an unrelated RfAr [75]

Evidence presented by Davenbelle[edit]

Based on this, I would like to explicitly state that I am not anyone's sockpuppet and that I have none.

13 January[edit]

re: Poland

15 January[edit]

re: Ron Paul:

  • 11:33, Jan 15, 2005 — (in reference to this Giuliani quote first added by) Libertas 12:09, Jan 4, 2005)
    • After posting on Talk:Ron Paul that "Paul's quote is about cause, while Giuliani's quote is about justification; they are not the same thing. 9/11 can be said to have been caused by US policy without implying that 9/11 was justified by US policy. Giuliani was not commenting on Paul's statement and his quote is thus irrelevant", I removed the quote. User Libertas (as sockpuppet Viewvista) reverts it ("rv to previous version by Radicalsubversiv") which is in fact 2nd prior version by Radicalsubversiv, 5 prior total (this is a restore of the quote); Viewvista subsequently reverted by Radicalsubversiv.

re: Howard Dean:

  • 23:00, Jan 15, 2005
    • Ollieplatt had made considerable POV/Vandalism edits to Howard Dean; there was also this POV-consistent edit from IP User:204.249.99.225. These were reverted by Khanartist (""reverting non-NPOV edits to last version by Radicalsubversiv), re-reverted by Ollieplatt ("rv to last version by ollie platt, pls explain reversions.") before being reverted by me ("reverting non-NPOV edits to last version by Khanartist"); this also restored a deleted section about the microphone (and I also adjusted 2 table attributes). Ollieplatt reverted yet again ("rv vandalism"), characterizing my revert as vandalism. I reverted his edit a second time. Ollieplatt then took a different approach (POV-vandalism) — which was reverted by Khanartist.

re: Image:Deanheil.jpg — (intermingles w/ Howard Dean above):

  • 22:02, Jan 15, 2005
    • In this edit, Ollieplatt changed the picture of Dean at Howard Dean to one named "Deanheil" — an obviously inappropriate name. (This image was being used on his Dean Scream page.) The incorporation into the Howard Dean reverted by me ("reverting non-NPOV edits to last version by Khanartist") — note that this same revert is also mentioned in the section above (I'm counting mine, too).
  • 15:45, Jan 16, 2005

re: Dean Scream — (intermingles w/ Image:Deanheil.jpg above):

  • 23:10, Jan 15, 2005
    • Dean Scream is a page created by Ollieplatt and his puppet Daniel11; it is highly point of view. I redirected it to Howard Dean, to which Ollieplatt, in his revert, said: "now that is vandalism, don't delete this page again without respecting wikipedia's deletion processes". He also left me a note on my talk page, and one on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard, which I'm pleased to only be able to find in history. (User silsor said "No." to the question "Is this vandalism?"). The redirect was restored by Korath ("merge/redirect"). It was reverted by Ollieplatt, again ("rv vandalism"). Radicalsubversiv edited it for "POV, accuracy, etc.", before "deciding on second thought, concur with Davenbelle and Korath: redirect". Of course, Ollieplatt reverted it again ("Dean Scream undeleted"). Radicalsubversiv restored the redirect ("this subject is already covered, in an NPOV manner, at Howard Dean, and three other users think it should redirect there"). Ollieplatt reverted yet again ("if I had done this it would be a vandal scandal, liberals are firmly in control here"). After this, edits were by Neutrality, RickK, and whoever Zulitz is . I count 4 reverts to the same content by Ollieplatt. In this edit, Rhobite removed the Deanheil image for "possible copyright violation". RickK removed it, too ("delete image until POV title is changed").

There is much more; I will added more here.
(For example, my posting to the Request for Comment.)

16 January[edit]

// I was not directly involved here:

nb: Nutrosnutros==Ollieplatt re: Marxian economics

  • 01:39, Jan 16, 2005
    • POV vandalism; inserted "...which was discredited by the application of it by the Soviet Union" w/ no comment by Nutrosnutros.
  • 01:58, Jan 16, 2005
    • Nutrosnutros' edit reverted w/ comment "rv. POV and irrelevant to the subject of the article" by Radicalsubversiv.
  • 02:02, Jan 16, 2005
    • Summary deletion of "In the United States, the leading academic department for Marxian economics (and heterodox economics more generally) is at the University of Massachusetts Amherst." w/ comment "source required for such a bold assertion I think" by Ollieplatt.
  • 02:18, Jan 16, 2005
    • Ollieplatt's edit reverted w/ comment "restore accurate paragraph, see talk for various citations and other info" by Radicalsubversiv.
  • 05:00, Jan 16, 2005
    • POV vandalism; inserted "...or their failure of Marxism-Leninism in the Soviet bloc" w/ no comment by Ollieplatt (nb: produced a grammatically incorrect sentence).
  • 09:52, Jan 16, 2005
    • Ollieplatt's edit reverted w/ comment "Revert statement that has nothing to do with Marxian economics" by Sunray.
  • 13:16, Jan 16, 2005
    • Reverted to "...or their failure of Marxism-Leninism in the Soviet bloc. " w/ comment: "explaining why no one wants to be called marxist is appropriate" by Ollieplatt.
  • 13:40, Jan 16, 2005
  • 14:07, Jan 16, 2005
  • 15:03, Jan 16, 2005
    • Ollieplatt's edit Reverted w/ comment ""Rv. Hardly vandalism--the phrase makes no sense here." by Sunray.

18 January[edit]

re: Marxian economics, again.

  • 03:17, Jan 18, 2005
    • Reverted to "...or their failure of Marxism-Leninism in the Soviet bloc. " w/ comment: "rv to Pavel's version" by Ollieplatt (which is in fact his own version).
  • 03:23, Jan 18, 2005
    • Ollieplatt's edit reverted w/ comment "as sunray says, this phrase makes absolutely no sense here" by Radicalsubversiv.
  • 03:32, Jan 18, 2005
    • POV vandalism; inserted "...or the failure of Marxism-Leninism in the Soviet bloc" w/ comment "it couldn't be more relevant, Marxism became unfashionable after 91 so Marxians emphasized they were Marxians not Marxists or Marxites or Marxotes" by Ollieplatt (nb: which did, at least, get the grammar correct).
  • 09:07, Jan 18, 2005
    • Ollieplatt's edit reverted w/ comment "Marxian economists don't argue this--some weren't even around in 1989 --> Talk page" by Sunray; on Talk: Marxian economics and the fall of the Soviet bloc "Ollieplatt keeps adding the phrase "or the failure of Marxism-Leninism in the Soviet bloc" to the first sentence under "Marxian vs Marxism." It renders the sentence nonsensical and looks like Ollieplatt is doing some trolling. If it is not a troll, and Ollieplatt wants to connect this idea to the article, he should write a paragraph on it." Sunray.

re: Campbellton, New Brunswick.

  • 15:47, Jan 18, 2005
    • On Jan 17th, I made several minor edits to Campbellton, New Brunswick. On the 18th, Ollieplatt changed "bring much needed" to "'attract" w/ comment "salmon don't "bring" tourists, unless they are big salmon". Seven minutes later, I changed it to "attract much needed" w/ comment "first rule: do no harm". Four minutes later, Ollieplatt reverted it back to "attract" w/ comment "much needed" is an opinion, your opinion I presume, it has no place in an encyclopedia article". The phrase "bring much needed" was in the article before I ever edited it; I have never been to Campbellton, New Brunswick; Ollieplatt had not previously edited the article.

Evidence presented by Blair P. Houghton[edit]

18 Jan[edit]

  • 14:55, 18 Jan, 2005 through 23:31, 18 Jan, 2005
    • The Ted Kennedy article history shows many irrational edits by Ollieplatt and reverts by non-trolling users. Eventually, the only way to remove the remnants of his cascading edits was to revert completely back to the point before he began vandalizing the article.
  • 06:23, 19 Jan, 2005
    • User talk:Ollieplatt#Ted Kennedy demonstrates Ollieplatt's disingenuous and bad-faith argumentative behavior despite my attempts to appease his putative desire to participate.

21 Jan[edit]

  • 18:11, 21 Jan, 2005
    • Sockpuppet Ollieplatt repeatedly vandalizes article Ted Kennedy with edits that consensus has already rejected.

26 Jan[edit]

  • 03:43, 26 Jan, 2005
    • Sockpuppet Ollieplatt sends me email with the subject "Wikipedia e-mail", writing in the body the single word, "Deviant." There is no objective way to determine whether that is an opinion or his signature.

27 Jan[edit]

  • 02:55, 27 Jan, 2005
    • Sockpuppet Ollieplatt threatens me in email:

Evidence presented by User:Jamesday[edit]

19 Jan 2004[edit]

As a developer, I was asked to check whether there was evidence that User:Ollieplatt was User:Libertas, after an admin blocked User:Ollieplatt on the basis of them appearing to be the same person. I found no such evidence. I did, however find persuasive evidence of two types that the following are related accounts: User:Ollieplatt, User:Suna, User:Salazar, User:Dean12, User:Viewvista, User:Fylc, User:Billclinton, User:Anilingus, User:Nutrosnutros, User:Radicalsubversive, User:Michaelsherrard, User:Gruntsphotoispuregeek, user:Lionelmira. Because of the multiple accounts I recommend including the internet address as part of any decision in this matter. In addition, there is inconclusive but suggestive evidence that there may or may not be the same relationship to these accounts, which merit observation but are not sufficiently conclusively linked: User:Razalah, User:Marxelvisikegod, User:Jennypratt, User:Paulyolaf, User:Stelioshi, User:Motherfuck3r, User:Nutrosnutros, User:Guidoplatt. Asking them whether they are linked and promptly contacting me with their reply may prove instructive and I recommend it. Jamesday 03:31, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)

22 January 2005[edit]

I suspect he's also using User:64.170.195.250, here's one of his "contributions" [76]. Ollie's probably the man behind that IP because when I blocked it, I got e-mails from Ollieplatt asking me to unblock him. GeneralPatton 01:44, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

May I add that he did this while the Titan (moon) artice was linked from the main page due to the Huygens probe landing, and he also did severe vandalism to the Huygens article [77] also linked from the main page. GeneralPatton 02:06, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

As User:Ollieplatt he's engaged in a highly disruptive behavior over at Democratic Underground removing large portions of the text and reverting the rest of the community [[78]]. GeneralPatton 01:57, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)
