Patrick R. Michaud, Ph.D., is formerly a Professor of Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he worked from 1990 to 2011. He received his Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana-Lafayette).

On the Internet he is best known for his articles Strawberry Pop-Tart Blow Torches ( http://www.pmichaud.com/toast ) and Fun With Grapes ( http://www.pmichaud.com/grape ), which he wrote in the summer of 1994 to evaluate the web as a communications medium and which have been widely cited both on the web and in the popular press.

He has authored PmWiki, a WikiWikiWeb system written in PHP and specifically designed to support web development.

On August 4th, 2004, he was named Perl 6 compiler pumpking by Dan Sugalski, after volunteering for the position. He has since been in charge of developing the Perl 6 compiler, an important part of a complete rewrite of the Perl language.
