Judy Peiser[edit]

Judy Peiser (born June 5, 1954) is the co-founder and current executive director of the Center for Southern Folklore in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Univserity of Illinois and as Master's degree from the University of Memphis [1].

Peiser founded the Center for Southern Folkore in 1972 along with Williams Ferris.

Peiser has produced numerous documentary films including Fannie Bell Chapman: Gospel Singer, Gravel Springs Fife and Drum, and Ray Lum: Mule Trader[2].

She is currently a member of the board of directors of the North American Folk Alliance[3].

Peiser is a frequent lecturer at preservation and folk gatherings throughout the world. She was recognized by Esquire Magazing for changing America and by Southern Living for having made a difference in the changing South.
