I think the reason that some people disagree with this article is because of the choice of terminology combined with the actual list of places. It doesn't take much knowledge of American cities to know that all of the "ghettos" on this list are predominantly African American communities. This list obscures the fact that most people would not consider a place like Harlem to be much of a ghetto anymore considering that rents in the area are comparable to other areas in Manhattan that people would not call a "ghetto," and the fact that the area has undergone some considerable economic development in recent years. It also obscures the fact that Newark is actually a very diverse city, and its Ironbound district is a rapidly gentrifying Portuguese neighborhood that is quickly becoming a popular location for Manhattan expats. This list is steeped in racism (as the American usage of ghetto is a very loaded term) and a misunderstanding of how cities (and neighborhoods) frequently undergo change.
