Two things, I haven't added, because i'm not sure of.

  1. He received a knighthood in 1974, but I beleive he had an earlier knighthood. I can't pin this down.
  1. His wife Monique has a son Hume, who I assume is not Shawcross' child, but again I can't pin this down.

As per Burke's, he was knighted in 1945 -- Someone else 09:54 11 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Hm.. but what I meant was, which order was he knighted under on both occasions, for he apparently received a second knighthood in 1974. Mintguy 20:17 11 Jul 2003 (UTC)

I don't know on which occasion it was but he was a Knight Grand Cross in The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE). -- Someone else 21:45 11 Jul 2003 (UTC)

As written in the New York Times obituary column, it said that Shawcross was knighted in 1945, at the relatively young age of 43. Shortly after this is when he was selected as the British delegate to the United Nations. Just thought you'd like to know. Longevitymonger

Under Wikipedia naming conventions, life peers are not to have their life peerages indicated in the article title. A move is therefore in order. -- Lord Emsworth 01:38, Jan 13, 2004 (UTC)
