P.S. First; you probably cannot get your timed out IP-address attributed edits joined with your real account except by groveling undignifiedly with the "Developers", and I am not sure even they can help you. Secondly on the general subject of your login timing out mid-edit, believe me brother, I know quite a few verses to that song.

On the Honus Wagner card, I hope my new addition meets with approval.

Furthermore. On the login timeouts. Do you know what "cookies" are? I didn't when I started here. Anyhow it seems it is good to have them "enabled" if you want to not "logout" mid-edit. There was some other technical stuff that could affect things as well (like what the make of your "browser" is), but I wouldn't be the best person to ask about that. That would be Wikipedia:Village pump territory, most definitely. Tim, my original post (before someone split it up) was clear, I thought, but you're wise to make doubly sure that everyone's votes are accurately counted. :) If Daniel is unwilling to return to a very small article (along the lines of the original one) I would support its deletion, and have modified my post at Talk:Daniel C. Hi, you cast a vote in the TEMP5 debate. The Temp5 proposal was voted down by 61.3% to 38.6%. We seem to be going around in circles on the whole issue of the main page. A new vote is now taking place to clarify what exactly we want, namely

Do we actually want to have a new page?
If so when (immediately, after a pause, timed to the press release, etc)?
What do people want on the front page and what do they want excluded?

As of now, the whole issue seems surrounded by complete confusion. This way, finally and definitively, we will know what we want and when we want it. So do please express your opinions. The vote is on the same page as the previous votes. FearÉIREANN 20:31, 13 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Yeah, the complete confusion was really annoying the hell out of me. It was a classic example of wiki at its worst, going around in circles without deciding anything. The last vote resulted in

19 votes against the Temp5 but for some change,
17 votes for Temp5
8 votes for the current page.

I am now getting told off for having dared to try to sort out the mess by calling a clear and unambiguous vote, not the fluffy ambiguity that nobody can make head or tail of that some on wiki seem to love. Well that doesn't seem quite as excessive as the 50 in a day that Tonius was doing and some of them are spread out over different times of the day. However, it wouldn't do any harm to mention it on his talk page - in a "here's a useful tip for you" way rather than a criticising way. I've noticed a user who has, in the last 48 hours, focused on a couple of pages and made 20-30 edits on them, many of them minor. They don't seem factually inaccurate to me, but it does seem to me that this approach of seven minor edits in ten minutes takes up server space and bandwidth to store old copies of articles that could easily be prevented. Should I drop a note to this user? Is there a procedure? I'd appreciate advice. Jwrosenzweig 23:11, 20 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Your interest in pre-1600 England can and should be much indulged at http://www.metaweb.com - especially see list of notable Baroque figures which you can help flesh out. A good bit on the controversies around William Shakespeare, including POV essays which are invited there, would be fun. Also such figures as Jane Grey and Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester would be good to cover.

I don't understand the minor clarification you gave to the Mormonism as a Christian religion page. Mormons believe that you are saved by both grace and works - therefore, why was it deleted? If Protestants also believe this, then delete the whole bullet. In the mean time, I'm adding back in to properly reflect Mormon theology

Thanks for the response. No offense was taken by any means - it's just been a few days of heated discussion over the page so I'm sure I over reacted. I'll take a look about how the sentence refers to Catholics having identical beliefs - they do have similar beliefs, but do differ greatly in the area as well. By the way, Purgatory is similar to the Mormon concept of the post-mortal Spirit World. Both are a waiting place for the final judgement. Other than that they do differ greatly. That your writing was imitated by someone else is an indication that the copier judged your writing as cogent or more than what he might have come up with. I would think we can come up with something catchier than "recent history". "Silicon Forest" is moderately widely used. Google gives over 5,000 hits, though its hard to quickly sort out how many of those might be from the company of that name. Feel free to change it, I promise not to be offended.

In case you didn't notice, this is not mostly my material, its somebody's paper that was dumped into the site. There's still a lot of work to do. The man doesn't seem to even notice that a labor movement exists, this in a town that had a General Strike in 1926. But it's better than nothing, and it's a start. I still have to hit up the paper itself for his references, etc., but I'm busy the rest of the evening & will be on it tomorrow. Hack away, but I'd appreciate if you leave it to me to integrate the major "undigested" material that I'm in the middle of grappling with.

The ones I have seen are from bartlby, encyclopedia.com or the nobel prize winners site. I'm trying to plough through them as I should be in bed (its past midnight), but clearly there is a lot to clean up. If you've messed up I'll check tomorrow morning. I haven't put mine on VfD as they should probably be all put on together. Also - even if the site he's copying from is GFDL then it needs a reference back to the site. Yes, there is someone out there deeply frustrated. I would guess, several people are. For several months I haven't edited one of the articles about Polish regions (just talk pages), and I fear, that it will never be possible again. Several attempts to talk to Taw and Caius2ga failed, because they just ignored me, regardless if I was polite or angry. As I said before, talking to my refrigerator has the same effect. My last hope is the arbitration committee, that will be established in January. If it fails, I will probably stop editing here. -- Baldhur 22:43, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Please take a look at Nicos recent changes to the page. He seems to have censored me partialy and edited the comments moved from Vandalism in progress while taking his name of the list.

This vandal's shameless lies are marvellous. He deleted himself from the Vandalism in progress page after he had vandalized Lower Silesia (Prussian province). Then he claimed he had moved it to the problems users page, which was a lie. After being confronted with that by several users, he inserted the message at Conflicts between users, not under "24.2.152.139", but under "Nico vs. All", and he also manipulated my text. After I had fixed the heading and replied to his comments, he frankly deleted my answer. He is a known vandal, and in a permanent state of edit war with a dozen of users, including Daniel Quinlan, me and many others. Just look how he totally vandalized Kaliningrad. He is doing nothing but reverting my changes and attacking my person. I think you are wrong about this person. He ought to ble blocked. Quickly. Nico 01:41, 13 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Someone help?[edit]

I don't even know where to put this. A well-meaning (I am assuming) newcomer anonymously posted a lot of new pages in the last hour that are copyrighted...somewhere over a dozen. This is taking me forever to track down and fix...will someone help me? Just go to Special:Newpages and check anything from 217.77.109.222. Things are getting more confusing. While some of the posts were from copyrighted sources, others were from a site (www.nobel-winners.com) that claims to release under the GNUFDL. But! It turns out that the nobel-winners site in fact contains (at least in part) copyrighted material it is using from elsewhere, and I can't find anything that says they've gotten permission (see [2] vs. [3] for something they took from Britannica that I assume the EB didn't authorize). What do we do when sites appear to be offering copyrighted material under the GNUFDL? I am truly confused: can anyone provide advice/clarity? Jwrosenzweig 00:23, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Most of those articles seem to consist of one to two sentences. It is so small that calling them "copyright infringements" is worrying unneccessary. BL 00:56, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Mother Teresa[edit]

Hi, thank you very much for your comments on Talk:Mother Teresa. I'm sorry for my sharpness there. Having been accused of being in effect in the pay of the Catholic Church I am not exactly a fan of Erik anymore. But please do contribute to the page. It needs a range of people from a range of perspectives to contribute, and given your academic background and the academic skills you possess, I for one would seriously love to see your contributions. The article could with work become something that wikipedia can stand over with pride. It isn't as ludicrously OTT as it was (when it included such POV rubbish as For all Catholics the saving of souls is more important than any material consideration, and for a particularly zealous (and in some ways unsophisticated) Catholic like Mother Teresa, it seems to have been the overriding consideration.!!!) But does need more work to objectise its content, and remove what one of its many critics called its "case for the prosecution" tone.

Gore Page[edit]

Can you please tell what sections of the Gore article are biased?

The pilots are not in the US, they work for Libyan Airlines (and the like). They came here, went to flight school here, and then...they went home. I have seen no evidence whatsoever that Al Qaeda attacked the US. I have seen circumstantial evidence that the government might have been behind 9/11 -- I certainly have no way of knowing, but it wouldnt surprise me if something like Operation Northwoods had occurred. Yes indeed I do love God, and strive to celebrate him in all that I do. As per mydog, 1. his name is intentionally offensive, and was only allowed at all for the thinest of reasons (apparently there was not "enough" complaint on the mailing list. 2. If his name wasn't intentionally designed to offend, but rather said something inane about God, like say "my dog ate God's steak", or any number of other stupid things which wouldn't be "misinterpreted" (he clearly ment to offend, and its no accident that the name does so. I knew that even before I saw his previous user names) it would still be rude and unnecessarilly disrespectful to refer to God in that way. 3. Some allegations (which I don't agree with, BTW) have been made that any name which refers to a religious subject in any way are necessarilly innapropriate. "Jesussaves" has come under attack for this. While I may not agree with it, this shows a precedent for persecuting those who make reference to religious figures, respectful or otherwise. 4. The only reason why this has been allowed for so long is the extremely disproportionate amount of anti-theist atheism found in general amongst academia, and in particular online. This is an unhealthful circumstance, and the ill effects are easilly noticable on any pages related to religious matters. Names like his only encourage this unfortunate lack of diversity, and make users such as myself increasingly uncomfortable with a community which so clearly allows disrespect for that which is sacred.
