Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Hangul vs. Hangeul[edit]

Hi Tomchiukc, is Hangeul really the correct Revised Romanisation spelling? If so, should we be switching other articles over as well? I see a trend towards Revised Romanisation on en: but I don't think we have a policy yet (maybe there should be one). silsor 15:48, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC)

Motorola Dragonball[edit]

Hello Tom. In the Chinese version of Motorola Dragonball you wrote that the processor was designed by an intern. Is there any cite to support this? I've translated this sentence to the English version [1], but it was reverted by another user [2]. Thanks. — Instantnood 18:37, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have the name of the programme, and, roughly, when it was on TV? RTHK keeps their programmes in the archive on its website. It's gonna be useful when people ask for citations. — Instantnood 06:50, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I thought it was on TV in the previous couple of years. Thanks anyways. :-) So bad that we cannot include more information in its English version.. :-\ — Instantnood 07:18, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Moving pages[edit]

I've noticed that you've attempted to move several pages, most recent being Manga, only to move them right back to their original names. Please don't do this as it is disruptive and a burden to the servers. Pages should only be moved to correct errors or to change the article's name to more commonly known terms. --TheFarix (Talk) 14:50, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Msikma: I translated your chart about EFI (Image:Efi-simple.jpg) into Chinese and uploaded to Wiki Commons. After that, I found that you requested all changes to your chart need to have you be notified. I am not sure if you are happy with this translation or not, because I did not just before on a Win2K machine. Please let me know if you need my help to make a better looking images. I am happy to provide you the translation of all text required. -- Tomchiukc 10:03, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tom. Thank you for translating that image, that's very cool! It's actually so that I added a little message on the talk page of every image I created a long time ago, because I wanted to be able to track them easily. But I stopped doing that since then, because there's not really any need to. I think that the image you made is very nice. I personally was thinking of redoing the original image in SVG sometime, because it's a much better image format for printing purposes. If I do, maybe you would want to be kept updated, so that your translation can be updated as well? Thanks, —msikma (user, talk) 06:31, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Msikma, sure I will help. Please let me know about what I can do to help you. -- Tomchiukc 16:40, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've created a new version of the image in SVG: Image:Efi-simple.svg. It should be easy to update since you can just open up the image's source code and change the text. If you give me the text that you used in your version of the image, I will do it for you. I'll just make SVG files from now on because they are much easier to translate and are much better for printing purposes. I hope you like it! —msikma (user, talk) 17:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For some unknown reason, I cannot open the file. So I give you the names of the chart in 3 languages, you can put the language code at the end of each file. Possibly, you can add your picture to the Japanese version of article as well:
zh-tw: 作業系統 / 可擴展韌體介面 / 系統韌體 / 系統硬體
zh-cn: 操作系统 / 可扩展固件接口 / 系统固件 / 系统硬件
ja: OS / EFI / ファームウェア / ハードウェア
--Tomchiukc 14:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the translations, I've created new versions of the image. They're located at Image:Efi-simple_ja.svg, Image:Efi-simple_zh-tw.svg, and Image:Efi-simple_zh-cn.svg. —msikma (user, talk) 15:27, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thx a lot! :-D --Tomchiukc 15:37, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. If you have any other translation requests, feel free to let me know. It's strange that you couldn't open the image, however. It's just a text file with a certain formatting, and editing it should be as simple as downloading the file and changing the text. —msikma (user, talk) 15:40, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in AGLOCO[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on AGLOCO, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because AGLOCO is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting AGLOCO, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate AGLOCO itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 14:59, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding edits to Sasha Sokol[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Tomchiukc! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule groups\.msn\.com, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Can you help me to modify Wavelength.svg to Chinese version and upload it to wiki commons as Wavelength-zh.svg? I tried to do the edit, but the file resulted is not visible. I am not sure about the problem, but this is not the first time for such problem to appear. :-( -- Tomchiukc 04:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tomchiukc. I have updated the image Image:Wavelength-zh.svg. I don't know if you are technical, but what I did is that I converted the file from the Big5 character set to UTF-8. The image shows now but I do not know if the labels make sense. Maybe I just made it show some random characters :P. I also added the license (GFDL). When I made the original SVG image I copied the main layout from another image. This image was licensed under the GFDL. This forces me to also license my version under it. And it also forces you to use it. Thanks for understanding :D. --Ysangkok 19:16, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It works now! I have not thought about that it was the problem. Thanks a lot! :-D --Tomchiukc 19:19, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Katwalk[edit]

A tag has been placed on Katwalk requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi! Please go to the article above and check out the Chinese article. I had been accidentally involved into an edit war with a very rude and aggressive use who just can't learn the basic etiquette of Wikipedia (primarily WP:NPOV). I had been trapped into violating 3RR due to his aggressiveness. The two articles in the "war" had too little active participation, and I don't want to blindly revert his edits again to avoid escalating it. Please join in and shift the balance. This guy won't listen! HkCaGu (talk) 20:00, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You recent move of article Triangle Hill is incorrect.[edit]

Per this statement I found on the Chinese sources:

 • 所以战斗开始后被称为597.9和537.7高地战斗。这两个高地后面的山洼里有个才十几户人家的小村庄,叫上甘岭。

Rough translation: In the valley behind Triangle Hill and Sniper Ridge, there is a hamlet with 10 families that is called Shangganling.

So Shangganling is not Triangle Hill, it is a hamlet that is behind the Triangle Hill.

I took the liberty to move the page to the name Shanganling.

AfD nomination of Rooftop housing[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Rooftop housing. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rooftop housing. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Tomchiukc! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 975 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:

 1. Gregory Charles Rivers - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
 2. Mike Murphy (Hong Kong) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 18:11, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article you created on this author is a biography of a living person which lacks acceptable sources and is liable to be nominated for deletion. I have been unable to find any sources in English to support the text. Could you revisit soon and fix it, please? Someone else has previously tagged the article as an orphan and this is another aspect of the article which needs attention--Plad2 (talk) 07:43, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Acalamari 12:23, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:44, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article WordSmith has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No clear evidence of notability. No independent sources at all, and most of its content is unsourced. Searching produces little independent coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on GELF (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

 • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
 • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. A tag has been placed on Template:Shelldoc 200142 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>substituted</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — Train2104 (t • c) 02:10, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bad taxonomy templates[edit]

I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve at Template:Taxonomy/Acanthochitonina and the parent Template:Taxonomy/Chitonida. I've fixed them so that they don't actually create errors, but can you explain what you wanted to do? Peter coxhead (talk) 16:57, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of PING (software) for deletion[edit]

stubs[edit]

Please note that any stub tag goes right at the end of an article - see WP:ORDER. In this edit you moved it from the right place to above the categories. Thanks. PamD 10:47, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct that Lotoria lotoria is currently the right name, and a previous change (a merge in the opposite direction) carried out by bot was incorrect. I just now attempted to change the necessary pages. However, I did not realize at first that this entailed a double redirect back to a previous situation, so I was not clear about how best to carry out the change. I think I lost the edit history on the main article, and the talk pages are not sorted out yet. WOUld you take a look and see if the situation can be improved? Thanks. Notice

The article Phaic Tăn has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (fiction)/Wikipedia:Notability (books) requirement. WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant English-language coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. December 2021[edit]

Information icon Hi Tomchiukc! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Michael Chan (Canadian politician) that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. – wallyfromdilbert (talk) 23:04, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Wallyfromdilbert. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Michael Chan (Canadian politician) seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. – wallyfromdilbert (talk) 23:07, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject invitation[edit]

Hi Tomchiukc! I saw you stating that you are interested in Hong Kong related articles on your userpage and your previous edits on Hong Kongese literature articles. I would like to ask if you are interested to join the recently proposed WikiProject Hong Kong literature, a voluntary project which encourages Wikipedians to edit articles related to Hong Kong literature? Cheers. --Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 08:16, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
