Hi PAR--Have you seen what happened to the dimensional analysis article recently? What a mess! This is not even dimensional analysis now, and the guy who did this does not even have a talk page. I think the entire page should be reverted to the way it was. And I still think the Huntley's analysis should be toned down, or perhaps it should actually have its own article. Liesegang

Saying that they were first noticed "over a hundred years ago" is problematic, because that phrase will become increasingly misleading as time goes by. It won't ever actually become inaccurate, true, but the sentence "the dinosaurs died out over a hundred years ago" isn't strictly inaccurate either. Edits to C. D. Darlington

You have been removing links from the C. D. Darlington entry to my review of Harman's biography of Darlington. Please explain your exact basis for doing so. I am assuming you are aware of some factual or other error in that review. If so, please point it out. -- GT

You claim in justification that "style" forbids adding a link to a book review in the reference section. Please provide a reference to a WikiPedia style guide advising this - stating that some other entries do not have such links is not persuasive. Regarding the notion of a "vanity" link, please state which WikiPedia guideline is relevant. I see no reason why I cannot link an entry to a review I have written. Why not? If you do not provide substantiation I will declare a dispute and ask for arbitration. -- GT

Industrial revolution

The general strike is one of the consequences of the Industrial Revolution and all the rest of the page shows also other social effects of the IR (but doesn't speak about the General strike, a world phenomenon evidently linked to the IR). So I don't agree with what you changed or removed and I want to replace what you removed (a few lines), without taking account of the fact the page now doesn't work good (the images in front of the text). Thomas MacDonald

Thomas MacDonald was not responsible for the Interstate Highway System. MacDonald was opposed to rural freeways; a report authored by him entitled "Toll Roads and Free Roads" showed that the majority of traffic was concentrated in and around cities and thus any freeways built should be built there. He found rural freeways unnecessary. (He basically supported only the sort of thing that would later be found in the Yellow Book.) This put him in opposition to President Eisenhower, who made the Interstate System a priority of his administration, who asked for MacDonald's resignation in 1953. My source for all of this is The Roads That Built America by Dan McNichol. If anything MacDonald should be known as part of the Good Roads Movement and as a booster of the United States Numbered Highways system. Thanks for your reply; I know how easy it is to get busy and not get a chance to respond to talkpage messages. MacDonald was certainly a visionary and an extremely important figure in the early development of the American highway system before the Interstate era. (I must add, he certainly makes a fascinating figure. Upon hearing of Eisenhower's request for his resignation, he informed his secretary with something along the lines of "I have just been fired, so we may as well get married." She accepted, they got married, and the two left Washington by train.) MacDonald's career is also covered in The Roads That Built America; it's a few years older but if you enjoyed The Big Roads you'd probably like McNichol's book too. I have re-written the part about paperweights causing fires and included a ref. Were you aware that many new paperweights have liability disclaimers on them stating that they should not be placed onto window ledges or similar area in case they cause a fire?
