The linking of this term to the Islamism article is just plain ignorance. No Islamist believes in the analysis or argument labelled Islamism by (mostly) Americans or Israelis or others openly hostile to Islamic thought. An Islamist believes in Islam as a political movement, and this is *not* (unlike the implication of the Islamism article) equivalent to Islamic fundamentalism or even militant Islam:

There are quite a few self-described "Islamists" who follow some of the tenets of liberal movements within Islam, for instance, or join utterly modern democratic parties such as the Islamic party in Turkey. Many moderate people describe themselves as "Islamists" and embrace Islam as a political movement, but almost all would also abhor the movement described in the Islamism article.
