name[edit]

per Wiki convention re current royal spouses and wives of heirs apparent of various country (see Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, et cetera Mowens35 22:45, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I think the article should be renamed Masako, Crown Princess of Japan, and Princess Masako should redirect to it. In fact, Princess Masako is not accurately correct. at33

I think the article should be renamed Crown Princess Masako. Since Japan is not a European country it does not make sense to specify country when all Japanese royalty names are unique to their own country. E.g. Emperor Jimmu used to be named Emperor Jimmu of Japan until people realized that this was moronic. —Tokek 19:02, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The current article seems to have a contradiction in the beginning, as to what Masako should be called. I don't know much about the facts, so it's not my place to correct it, but there should be some conclusion there. Galactiger 20:21, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence about masako not being croun princess should definitely be removed, as the offcial website use the name

Borderline personality disorder & mistreatment??????[edit]

She is most famous for giving up her professional career to become a princess, and for struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder while trying to cope with her world-class image as the picture-perfect princess whose primary duty is to bear a male heir to the throne.

observers have indicated that the Crown Princess suffered a nervous breakdown. It was announced that the Crown Princess suffered from borderline personality disorder and chicken pox.

How do we know whether or not she has Borderline personality disorder? Isn't it irresponsible to label it as such? Announced by WHO? Isn't this mere speculation? It wasn't chicken pox she was suffering from it was shingles.

What mistreatment? From what I have read the Imperial Household Agency has done more to mistreat Masako than the Emperor and Empress. The Empress has publicly offered Masako her support and compassion.

Changed controversy section[edit]

So that it does not seem to imply agreement with a specific perspective (namely, that article subject implicitly abrogated rights in consenting to marry). Hopefully now it organizes the controversy from a third-party perspective: contrasting the opinions of the foreign press/observers with the prevailing opinion of the domestic press/observers.

Marriage[edit]

I removed a large section from the marriage section of the article [1]. It was obviously lifted and edited from the Diana, Princess of Wales article. Unless this can be checked from a CREDIBLE source, it should not be in the article. This is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid magazine. Prsgoddess187 12:25, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i put this text back. the current article says (or said) NOTHING about her divorce; in fact, it says nothing at all about any controversy. i read somewhere about masako being "disgraced" and came to wikipedia looking for info and found nothing. questions about the origin of citations should result in a [citation needed] notice being added, NOT total deletion of information. I zapped that unproven stuff. This is a fine example of information trolling. Your creation e.g. gave a specific date of separation, but it was not possible to confirm this from other sources. The Picture[edit]

The picture is quite old and I don't think it belongs to the header part of the page as the princess is 43 years old and this picture is from thirty some odd years ago. If need be, It can be used in the Early Life section.

Can anybody provide a better picture? I have sepent a lot of time to really understand the copyrights issues and how I can comply, but often the pages that have good pix, are not very clear about their copyright issues.

"of Japan" in the article title[edit]

Since the sole purpose for adding a country name in the article title has always been for disambiguation purposes only, the article title ("Masako, Crown Princess of Japan") shouldn't include "of Japan" as that doesn't disambiguate the article from any other Masakos. To date, Japan is the only country that has had a royalty named "Masako." More broadly speaking, no country besides Japan has had a royalty whose name is Japanese. I could not find any official wikipedia policy or style guideline, or actual practices in Japan that would require the "of Japan" to be included. —Tokek (talk) 09:45, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date issue[edit]

Masako, Crown Princess of Japan → Crown Princess Masako —The title of an article should be the way the person or thing is normally referred to on first reference in an English-language newspaper, which in this case is "Crown Princess Masako."[2] "of [country]" is a wiki style to disambiguate the names of European kings. There is no need to do this for Japanese names as they are distinctive to Japan. Dead tree encyclopedias put the given name first so names can be alphabetized, but that is not an issue on Wikipedia.
