Monsoon Season a result of Saharan aridity??[edit]

1935 French Plane Crash/WWII[edit]

The title to a section is listed as world war two, and lists two plane crashes. One of which occured during world war two. And the other occured during 1935. Unless I'm grossly misinformed WWII did not start until 1939-41, as a twenty year armstice was in place during 1935. So maybe changing the header to "Plane Crashes" or "Early 18th Century Exploration" would work better. I've (sort of) resolved the 1935 crash anomaly, as it didn't occur in the Libyan Desert at all, but in the Nile Delta. So I have deleted it from here and merged it into the Wadi Natrun page, which is where it occurred. Moonraker12 (talk) 22:50, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. I just wanted to know roughly where the Western Desert is, relative to modern country boundaries. This website may not be reliable, but has a nice map. It contradicts the definitions here, showing the Western Desert as distinct part the Libyan Desert, rather than their being synonyms. The text of the website contradicts the map, as the map shows it stops at the Egyptian/Libyan border, while a quote suggests it extends into Libya. This tourism website says "Since the second world war the north-eastern part of the Libyan desert, lying in Egypt, is usually referred to as the Western Desert (that is, lying to the west of the Nile)." If the meaning was revised only after WWII, that would explain the contradiction with the Wikipedia article, which cites only a 1939 source, and may explain the contradictory quote on the website with the map. Done... I've added an explanation for this anomaly in a re-write (see below); the names have changed their meaning during he 20th century. And we have an article on the Western Desert of Egypt now. Re-write[edit]

This page could do with a re-write: For a start it needs sections on geography and climate, seeing as it's a geographical subject. Also, it says nothing about the desert in Libya itself (which the title would suggest) and the definition is a little out of date. So I am re-writing it; I trust that is OK with everyone.
