add this template[edit]

Please add this template to all villages/towns/cities:

I have been adding it to as many as possible, but as only ~5% of the pages have actually been made it is too big a task for me to do all of them.

please link to the 2001 census in 'external links' thanks

Places not in Buckinghamshire[edit]

I don't think we should mix the places which aren't in Buckinghamshire with places which are in Buckinghamshire. The places which aren't in Buckinghamshire should be clearly marked by putting them in a separate section. -- Joolz 22:00, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I agree, SqueakBox 22:03, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
Whichever. They're all in one together because that's how I created it when they were just a part of the Buckinghamshire article. Would you just split them off into Bucks and not Bucks or would you further divide the second section into where the places are now? -- Francs2000 | Talk 02:06, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I have just put all the ex Bucks places in one section for now but which counties these places are now are could be a welcome addition, SqueakBox July 1, 2005 03:44 (UTC)

What about places that are in Bucks now but weren't always? E.g. Coleshill was once in Herts.

That's not going to be a huge list. -- Roleplayer 13:33, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Places no longer administered by Buckinghamshire County Council[edit]

Why are Slough and Milton Keynes in the same category? This way of presenting places in unitary authorities mixed with places affected by boundary changes is problematic. The distinction between the two is lost. MRSC 08:33, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Eaton Bray in the list? As far as I know, it has always been in Bedfordshire. JonH (talk) 16:52, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can find although associated through common ownership with Edlesborough which was generally administered by Buckinghamshire subject to a short period when part of Bedfordshire, Eaton Bray parish has always been part of Beds. having said that small parts of the Eaton Bray village settlement adjoining Edlesborough have it appears been deemed to have straddled the county boundary in earlier times. Based on this my vote would be to remove it unless any contradictory evidence is presented.Tmol42 (talk) 18:18, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is that the parish straddled the two counties, even though the village proper has always been in Bedfordshire. -- roleplayer 21:09, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Featured List[edit]

I would like to make this list a featured list. First of all, I have added extra features to each section. It would be nice to have a second opinion on as how to have it laid out. Either with sections for each letter, or as one giant list.
At the moment I have created a table for A, which has not been fully completed yet. As of writing, it requires links, images and notes.
I used this generator to help me make the tables: http://www.tablesgenerator.com/mediawiki_tables
Any users feel free to help out.

Sorry to put a dampner on your idea but personally I do not think this is a good use of our resources. This is currently a list with minimal but practical function, a quick look up page linking to articles, a gazetteer if you like comprising places of all sizes and designation. Comparisons between these will serve no practical purpose. By adding columns of data and images you are just repeating non-comparable information which already appears in the settlement articles and I can't see the real added value benefit of repeating this all here. As far as adding populations is concerned, for the vast majority of places there will not be any population data available from ONS. For those where it does exist it will be yet another painful maintenance task to undertake when the next census data is published in circa 2023. Having done this on the article pages in 2013 the thought of dong it twice gives me nightmares. Whether a place is a hamlet or village is a subject of debate already and in many places is a subjective assessment. As a side issue I am not sure why you chose to remove the wikilinks for the places which removes one of the few values of the article. In conclusion it would be far better if our efforts are preserved for improving the articles themselves.Tmol42 (talk) 22:32, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Surely enough adding the settlements to a table, as well as providing information, allows not only for easier reference, but also for priority to be easily seen through the use of the sortable nature of it. I did not remove the links personally, that was the table creation program I used. The population data as of now is a guide to see what is a priority to be worked on.
Yes, working on the articles themselves is one focus, but for many settlements, there is either no information accessible from the internet, or no one to write them. So far the majority of my edits have been technical, in adding pictures, references and infoboxes, and attempting to gather sources. My written English isn't great so such tasks such as of writing or rewriting chunks of text are not possible, especially not in an ecyclopædic manner.
