-Pedro 00:31, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • José eu sei! valha-me deus. -Pedro 01:00, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
-Pedro 23:41, 3 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

E, as outras vogais tb.

-Pedro 00:41, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Muito atenciosamente despeço-me.

POV on Brazilian scandal page[edit]

You need to explain why you think it is POV on the talk page, and if we cannot agree on how to rectify it then you can post the tag. It's not good just to put that up there without people understanding what needs to be done. This page is merely a partial translation of the Portuguese Wikipedia (which has had substantial input from PT and non-PT editors) so I don't understand how the English page could be uniquely POV. Tfine80 22:15, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good... I only want the best, most fair article. If the problem is that you think that the article only dwells on the minutia of the scandal without much context, I can help put the outside history of corruption of other parties in a more fair form. Tfine80 23:06, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

-Pedro 00:28, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

scandal[edit]

Although I've never been to Brazil and haven't read all of the publications related to the scandal, I think I have an interesting perspective for a few reasons. I went to Harvard University where I met a lot of VERY rich Brazilian who were scared of Lula and I met many other poor to lower middle class Brazilian immigrants near where I lived. (boston is a huge center of Brazilian immigration) Now I live in the New York City neighboorhood with the most Brazilians, and I work with Brazilians everyday...

We definitely should chat about it. My MSN chat account (which I think you are talking about) is todd_fine@hotmail.com; I still haven't received yours. Perhaps you can access me first. Best, Tfine80 19:15, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A deputada Raquel Teixeira (PSDB-GO) inclusive admitiu ter sido convidada a participar do mensalão.

--Carlosar 20:28, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Portuguese Grammar[edit]

What would you think (being the main author of Portuguese grammar if we were to merge it with Portuguese in a grammatical appendice? This might save two seperate efforts to create the same information. {I could use some help with the advanced parts of Portuguese myself as I'm writing the Portuguese wikibook to help me learn the language - i barely speak it at all) 60.230.132.204 09:04, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

French diaresis[edit]

Thanks, José. I understand what the diaresis does. (Okay, sloppy wording, perhaps.) But I still wonder how Ci-tro-ën is pronounced. Is the last syllable pronounced as an, or as in (nasalized [e]), for example? kwami 23:32, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. That makes me wonder where the name Saint Saëns came from. [saɑ̃z] would be a rather interesting pronunciation. Unless it's a holdover from before the n elided into a nasal vowel? kwami 23:53, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, today the s in Saëns is pronouced but the diaresis is not: either [sɑ̃z] or [sɑ̃s] (I've seen conflicting accounts). I just can't figure out what the diaresis indicated when it was pronounced. But I don't think the Portuguese nasalized diphthongs are so odd. They aren't hard to pronounce, though I would probably have a hard time getting a good accent. kwami

Castro[edit]

I believe the article should imply or state that Castro is a dictator, and the failed AFD on List of Dictators signals that Wikipedia does not feel such characterizations are POV. Pinochet is described as a dictator in his intro, so should Castro. CJK 15:58, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Moncada[edit]

I am not too familiar with Wikipedia. Perhaps you would help me? My source is the book Cuba: Anatomy of a Revolution by Leo Huberman and Paul M. Sweezy, CHAPTER 4, The Assault on Moncada, page 29.

In all seriousness, I am very sorry if I offended you.

81.232.92.73

From page 29: "By far the largest number of rebels who lost their lives were murdered after the assault was over. In Santiago there began the sort of blood bath which was to characterize teh Batista regime and bring the total number of his victims to 20,000 before he was finally overthrown. Trigger-happy police and army men roamed the streets firing at anybody - Children as well as adults; in their search for persons who had in any way helped the rebels, the army arrested innocent as well as guilty - and killed them. Batista's orders were carried out: for each of his soldiers who had fallen in the attack, ten prisoners were to be executed. Civil rights were suspended and rigid censorship imposed.

But the story of the butchery that followed the rebel assault on Moncada could not be supressed. To many families in Santiago had seen or heard about the killings of their loved ones, or friends, and they protested. Monsignor Perez Serantes, Archbishop of Santiago, secured a promise from teh army commanding officer in the city that the lives of the rebels still at large would be spared if they gave themselves up; they would be brought to trial, not murdered.

That was now the public position of topy army officials. But privately they gave orders to their men that the leader of the rebels, Fidel Castro, was not to be taken alive. Now, by one of the strange ironies of history, the army patrol that discovered Fidel and two companies exhausted and asleep in a shack in the foothills of the Sierra Maestra, was headed by Lieutenant Perdro Sarria who had been a student at the university while Fidel was active there. None of the other soldiers int he patrol recognizzed the prisoner. As he bent over Fidel, ostensibly searching him for arms, Lieutenant Sarria whispered in his ear: "Don't give your right name or you will be shot. With Fidel in prison Raul Castro, with his men, came down from their hideout in the mountains and surrendered"

So this is according to this book which was published in 1960. Leo Huberman and Paul M. Sweezy met Che Guevara and other revolutionary leaders. So I assume the book is pretty accurate.

It seems that I missed the rank.. I believe I wrote Sergeant, when in reality it was Lieutenant. Perhaps I missed a few other facts, as I wrote it according to my memory...

And thanks for the tip, I will register...

your IPA insertion at Hugo Chavez[edit]

Some of the symbols you used to render the Spanish language IPA for Hugo Chavez (['ugo rafe'el 'tʃabes 'fɾias]) are not found in the IPA chart for English — so I'm left puzzled regarding what system you used. In addition, being a Spanish speaker myself and having heard audio of native Spanish speakers pronouncing Chavez's name, I can definitively say that the first IPA (the one you inexplicably labelled "English") is the Spanish-language pronunciation. It should be the only one listed, since yours (the second one) seems to be a corrupted/Americanized version of mine. Could you explain? Saravask 22:53, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All right — sounds good. Didn't mean to sound paranoid, but I just needed to make sure. Thanks for the explanation. Saravask 00:19, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV MST[edit]

I will reestablsih comment. This a fact (with proper link news). POV is deleting fact. Please prove why shoulbe removed. It was news on CNN and commented by international analysts (here in NY). Political instability as well violation of property rights are common economic risks (embedded in credit spreads) for developing countries. Cloretti2 02:48, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear SanMartin

Read economic comment (number 9) from Bloomberg in the page. Bloomberg is the most respect financial eletronic media with Reuters in the world. MST is a serious thing for Brazilian analysts here in NY. RegardsCloretti2 03:13, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Private property is a clear right in Brazil. When you put clauses such as "social functions" reminds the old Soviet state. Just for curiosity, what should be a social function of a private condom, a golf course, a tennis court ? Interesting, no ??? Cloretti2 03:26, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you see, current facts have good economic points for Brazil...Major issues aglomerate serious problems...well..I think it is well formatted. regardsCloretti2 03:29, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No..it is not. Because this is constant, do you undertand? Consider the point of view of foreign investor: when Kichner does that with Shell in Argentina, India, in the past with Coke, Chavez with American companies in Venezuela, etc, etc,etc,etc....That persists in you memory...That puts Brazil in the same category as those countries. Never would you see something like this in Japan, Germany or England (even France,,,hahaha)?...That is deadly serious...it is the concept...not the size of the thing...Many regards my friednCloretti2 03:36, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because there are many people that say there is a link between MST and PT (and I will not put that in article because I cannot prove...it would be a serious POV). But you cannot deny that there is this issue...More important, it was a research center, oh Christ...and government seems complacent with that..(another POV)....MST hurts Brazil all the time that does it and investor really think : what´s best ? Malaysia or Brazil ? India or Brazil ? China or Brazil ?....The concept of protection of private property - this is the major issue...GOOD NIGHTCloretti2 03:45, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Answering your enquiries... No, I don't have any relation to user 'justice', and actually never heard of him/her. I have been on wikipedia for some time now, first as an IP, then with other usernames. My main job here has been going after trolls, tackling bias and cleaning up articles (and I've just changed my username to somewhat reflect this a little more), so that's how I stumbled across that article, which, as I said, seems to have been disturbed by a quite authoritarian kind of troll who keeps adding controversial data. Since that user's changes resemble some changes you have made before (and which were justly reverted), you became the prime suspect, there was no way to avoid it. I've seen many ideological trolls around and actually denounced or managed to block a couple of fascists and the like, and you happened to share some of their traits, such as continuously editing, often controversially, highly sensitive pages about communism, revolutionaries and Latin American politicians. That's the evidence, period. But don't worry. I won't push it too hard. Now, if it weren't you, at least someone surely did it, and if you can help stop the trolling, please do so. I have considered your prompt and somewhat hasty response - I say that it must have been hasty and perhaps inattentive because you actually posted it on my main userpage instead of my talk page, besides displaying some quite lousy English spelling ('responsability'?? belicosity?? you're usually more attentive on articles, as far as I can see). But that's fine, my friend. I must give you the benefit of the doubt. Sorry for any trouble. Justice III 17:43, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Simple English[edit]

Oi. Obrigado. --Paulistanum 20:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I realize you could not move the previous title "Federal Senate of Brazil" to "Senate of Brazil" as we had discussed on the talk page because there was already a redirect at that name. When that happen, however, you need to contact an Administrator to perform the move. Never perform a copy-and-paste (i.e. simply deleting the previous content of the redirect and replacing it with the copied text from the other article). This messes with the accuracy of the history of contributions, which cannot happen due to the specifications of the GFDL licence, which Wikipedia uses. I have fixed the situation, by merging the histories and moving the article properly. But please remember: never perform copy-and-paste moves. When faced with a situation where a common move cannot be performed, contact an Administrator. Thanks, Redux 23:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The magic 4 articles[edit]

Portuguese language, Portuguese phonology, Guttural R, and Voiced uvular fricative.

You seem not a bit neutral on this dispute. My changes were not drastical, they were made on a single subject. The usage of the "r". This is too much for me. Is this an in inventing encyclopedia?

"I would sure love to see what sources he based his edits on." by FilipeS. What morality do wikipedians have to ommit things and change them according what they think is reality? Is he based on brazilian books about portuguese language? If so, that is not the most valuable source, since european portuguese phonetics are not really a home specialty.

I repeat what I said in the request for arbitration:

I'll prove what I'm saying, if that's not enough I'll interview people in Portugal, and record their phonetics for professor and guardian of morality Mr.FilipeS to listen.

And why oh why, do I have to prove what I'm saying? Why his edits have priority? Where has this come to? Portuguese people that not use Gutural R's have to prove this. What an irony. Who is Mr.FilipeS? And HE is lying blatantly when he says I don't have a talk page. He started the aggressive reverting and now has to endure its consequences.

Do I seem I'll give up of proving this? What do you want for a start? Do you want me to scan books about the R in Portugal?

You seem to be a sympathetic guy! Thank you. How will we be doing about the 4 articles? The subject seems the same: The "R". Is it better to discuss on only one talkpage? We may discuss it in the "Portuguese Phonetics" and then if my sources «approved» (I can't believe, portuguese professors need to be approved, but ok, baby steps) we make the needed updates. Last resort I propose to create an article just about the "R" in Portugal.

Best regards. --Richard George 12:15, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
