Birthdate[edit]

According to IMDB she was born in 1934. Is that correct?

User:81.156.252.57 changed the date from 1934 to 1938 last month, saying in the edit note: "Was born in '38 not '34." I'm inclined to trust IMDB over an anonymous user, but I've left a note on the user's talk page requesting clarification. However, the user hasn't made any contributions since March, so we may not get anything. Incidentally, this article is still in Category:1934 births, so we need to either change the date in the article to 1934 or change the category to Category:1938 births. —Caesura(t) 13:31, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Birth Year[edit]

The imdb is only as reliable as the sources it uses, in this case an incorrect one (I know they used to say that she was born in 1940). I remember hearing about an interview Miss Bron had given a few years ago in which she said she was surprised to hear some sources say she was born in 1934 when she was actually born four years later (it's a bit vague but I remember the important bits - '38 not '34). Her entries in Who's Who [1] and Debrett's People of Today also cite her birth year as 1938. And the Wikipedia article states that she was in the Cambridge footlights in 1959, which would make the 1938 date more likely. Crisso 15:47, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, the Biography channel [2] agrees with 1938. Crisso 14:48, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a useful resource for checking birth years: https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl It's a search engine for a transcript of the official civil registration records for England and Wales. And here's the result of a search for the name Eleanor Bron:

June doesn't actually mean the birth month. In this case it means the 2nd quarter, i.e. April-June, and refers to the birth registration rather than the birth date. This result is consistent with a March 1938 birth. KevD 16 March, 2021

I've been rereading Roger Wilmut's 1980 book "From Fringe to Flying Circus" to see if it gives her birthdate, as it does with all the males from the '60s satire boom who are interviewed and profiled. Possibly out of chivalry it doesn't, but says that, when she appeared in the 1959 Footlights, "Bron was then in the second of her three years at Cambridge" (pp. 6-7). She does appear to have given an interview to Radio 4 in March 2018 on the event of her 80th birthday: [3] Per$1$tenceofv1$1on (talk) 21:00, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Per$1$tenceofv1$1on[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Eleanorbron girlswhodocomedy.jpg[edit]

Image:Eleanorbron girlswhodocomedy.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Cedric Price[edit]

A more unlikely couple than Eleanor Bron and Cedric Price is difficult to imagine! There's nowt so queer as folk. (Actually Hattie Jacques and John Le Mesurier come close!)
