Well, I only just wrote this article, so that argument is a bit flawed. I intend to write articles for some of the others, at least pall mall. If you want to shuffle them around you can, I decided to do it this way because of a google search for "pall mall" got me (in the top 10) a whole selection of meanings (the street in London, the cigaratte brand, Pall Mall Gazette, the game, a font, a place in Texas). fabiform | talk 00:23, 7 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

So tell me... HOW does this very toffy, very detailed article get away with ONE reference and **NO** [citation needed]'s ?
But then you know- How does a tiny 'unrated' article such as get a link into from a FrontPage-ed article- An' FP'd on a very important international workers' holiday, an' the weather cold so you stay indoors with the internets? And then this FP-er clips onto into you and sends you... here?

IPA[edit]

Is the pronunciation at the top of the page in IPA? On the IPA for English page, it doesn't seem that there's an 'au' combination - wouldn't ɔː be more accurate? pɔːl mɔːl... although I'm not really sure how it's pronounced so I can't give a proper transcription. Content dispute[edit]

Are administrators supposed to edit war and then stop any IP correcting their poor edits? The Survey of London source used for this paragraph says, "No evidence has been recorded to suggest that this highway was a Roman road but, as the westward continuation of the Strand, it was probably in existence in Saxon times" which cross-references Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England) and Roman Roads in Britain.   • I'm not sure if you should use so many direct quotations, this is a new style I am seeing.
I think this was done by earlier work on the article - the quotations are reproduced from the Survey of London verbatim from the original manuscripts quoted in turn by that source. Cultural references
  • It might be good to add "novelist" before Thackeray, I like identifying people when I mention them first, just to save readers clicks. May be do the same for other such persons?
I've done Thackeray as it's not obvious from the context, but from the rest I think it is self-explanatory that the bookseller Robert Dodsley ran a bookshop and the architect Charles Barry designed a building, and adding those would make the prose a little redundant, I feel. Monopoly[edit]

I just saw this article was promoted to GA, and having a look at it, I'm surprised Monopoly only gets a on sentence mention - I would have thought that this was a much bigger part of Pall Mall's fame. Can we include some commentary about this? I know this isn't a great source, but I see this claim in the Daily Mirror: "Pall Mall has unshackled itself from the lowly chains of being a Pink property, and would now be a Green property." At the very least we should say what colour group the street is in. StAnselm (talk) 02:30, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the colour group, as that is verifiable, and dropped in a source similar to yours (though not with a reputation for being a tabloid) but surprisingly there is little other mention of the street's association with Monopoly in reliable sources. There is this Daily Telegraph report that documents house price rises, but Pall Mall is not mentioned among them. Tim Moore's "Do Not Pass Go" documents several reasons for choosing the particular squares by Waddington's Victor Watson and Marjorie Phillips (compare and contrast this article with The Angel, Islington, which has an entire paragraph dedicated to Monopoly, but only because there is the coverage in sources for it), but there doesn't seem to be much about Pall Mall other than the clubs and cigarette manufacturers.
