Comment[edit]

This page needs some election statistics to flesh out the guy's career.

Someone is removing info but I can't undo the changes. Please look back at the Dec 2022 version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.12.172.197 (talk) 12:17, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Later life and political comeback needs to be revised. I think the prior information got struck for copyright violation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doughbo (talkcontribs) 21:05, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Doughbo can someone explain the copyright issue ? Ccirulli (talk) 19:27, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can't recall the original reason for my comment, nor do I know the reason for the content's removal. However, I reverse searched some of the text and it appears that the article had partially plagiarized this Find a Grave entry. Doughbo (talk) 00:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Doughbo Thanks for your reply and dialog. Is it good practice to wholesale delete an entire section of an article, and portion of someones biography, as opposed to correct the plagiarized instances? I will be happy to make the corrections, but as is, a casual reader is missing a lot of information. Ccirulli (talk) 18:07, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an experienced editor but I think it would be worth it to append some of the clean information that was previously removed. Doughbo (talk) 08:57, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree and intend to work to on that. Ccirulli (talk) 21:32, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Politics Late in Life[edit]

I knew Gov. Smith when I was a student at Texas Tech (1994-1998)---he went to my church and was a very nice guy. Once he gave me a key chain with his face on it and, in the course of the conversation, I recall him telling me that he identified himself at that point in his life as a Republican. I wonder if there is any reference to support what he told me personally.

Fair use rationale for Image:Sealtexas.jpg[edit]

Image:Sealtexas.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

File:Smith-p01.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Smith-p01.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 13 November 2011

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review
