Merge with mind map[edit]

Too similar. Concept map is probably a better title. -Inowen (nlfte) 02:04, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Different topics in my view. --Michig (talk) 11:10, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: Concept map, mind map, argument map, etc., are different kinds of node–link diagram which have different constraints on nodes and links and partially overlapping but different practical uses. See, e.g. (citations from Argument map):

As there is no support for the merge proposal after a week, and there is a good argument against it, I have removed the merge templates. Biogeographist (talk) 14:41, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The term Concept Map has been widely used across education/ psychology/ HCI for some 40 years. The literature will not change. A cross-link to and from Mind Map (usually associated with Tony Buzan) is helpful. Concept maps denote NODES and RELATIONSHIPS. Mind Maps are not constructed in this way. Ray Oaks (talk) 07:59, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It seems clear that the editor who proposed the merge three years ago didn't know the literature. Biogeographist (talk) 15:56, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Ray said that mind maps are not constructed using nodes and links, but that is not quite right: mind maps have nodes and links, but the links are untyped links and are not explicit in the visual representation. Biogeographist (talk) 14:41, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Overview[edit]

I’m new to Wikipedia so may be wrong but the following section potentially breaches copyright. Compare to reference [1]

“A concept map is a way of representing relationships between ideas, images, or words in the same way that a sentence diagram represents the grammar of a sentence, a road map represents the locations of highways and towns, and a circuit diagram represents the workings of an electrical appliance. In a concept map, each word or phrase connects to another, and links back to the original idea, word, or phrase.” Toby64 (talk) 20:35, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Toby64: Thanks, this looks like WP:COPYVIO to me too, so I removed the text. Biogeographist (talk) 21:50, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
