I think this article should be merged into Autodidacticism, but I don't have time tonight. Whitepaw 19:48, 2005 May 3 (UTC)

Self-Directed Learning should not be redirected. It has its own professional associations, journals, long history. Not at all synonymous with autodydactism[edit]

@JohnSWren: While I have no knowledge on this subject, I agree with User:Iamoctopus redirecting this article. If you believe there should be it's own article, please at least form an article that meets wikipedia standards before removing the redirect. This does not comply with WP:Format, here is an example of a good stub. 03:29, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

This is just a lower-quality less-neutral version of the page on Autodidacticism

  • There is no clear indication as to how this is different
  • There are no independent sources affirming the notability of the organisation this page is about
  • The article is in a clear promotional tone

It's been a week since you protested the redirect, and the article has not been changed to resolve any of the issues raised. I propose reinstating the redirect. Iamoctopus (talk) 11:03, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that User:JohnSWren pasted content in the Autodidacticism page that they have previously used here. It was very out of context, so I undid it manually. I agree with User:Iamoctopus about the quality of this article. I support redirecting this page to Autodidacticism, but I feel that self-directed learning could be a relevent subcategory in Autodidacticism. I redid the redirect, as the article couldn't be left in that state, although I do believe with sufficient content this could be a good article. Sarawebber233 (talk) 04:52, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was disappointed by being re-directed to Autodidacticism, when I searched for this. Perhaps the original page was not of good enough quality, but redirecting suggests that they are the same ideas. Within education, SDL is a process towards Autodidacticism, aimed at helping students become more Autonomous in their learning (Autonomous Learning is another similar concept). I will attempt to write / edit a separate SDL page, but I'd just like to suggest that re-direction is not an appropriate action for inadequate entries. It suggests to students who use the site that they are the same thing, rather than suggesting it is a topic that needs to be clarified, differentiated, clearly cited and referenced and more fully developed. 04:14, 18 April 2017 (UTC)DrDDS (talk)
