Hello Caliper, welcome to Wikipedia. You might like to start by reading the tutorial and introducing yourself at the new users page. For ideas of what to put on your user page, see Wikipedia:User page.

If you have any questions, you can ask at the help desk or on my talk page. Two useful tips are that you can sign your name using four tildes (~~~~) and you can preview your changes before you save using the show preview button. You can regularly find new tips on the Community Portal. I look forward to reading your great articles and I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. :) Angela. 06:46, May 5, 2004 (UTC)

Hi! Welcome from me also, and thanks for your note on the new user's page. Proofreading is quite a useful skill; we can never have too much of it here. If you're going to edit articles on the Middle East, of course be aware that those are sensitive topics. You'll want to make sure to follow our neutral point of view policy, and you might want to discuss changes on the appropriate talk page before making major modifications to an article. Good luck and happy editing, Isomorphic 18:12, 5 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to both of you for the welcome. Of course I would never make a major change to a controversial article without getting a consensus first. --Caliper 18:37, 5 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Nice work with those album boxes, I never got around to doing it myself...don't worry about the link on my page, that page needs to be updated anyway so I'll just fix it myself. Adam Bishop 19:41, 19 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your kind words. I hope that my changes help to improve Wikipedia and that over time I will improve the quality of my submissions. Rei has suggested the same course of action....normally that would be the thing to do. My response to her was:

regarding a username...you(Rei) are one of the few people i have encountered on Wikipedia that are willing to talk, discuss and consider (Uncle Ed is another). Many i have run into (Zero0000, Viajero, MyRedDice) are different in that regard....hence my IP address status...this IP that IP we are all based upon four octets equally ;)

In addition, at least one of these individuals has admin status. One of these individuals deletes material regardless of source provided it does not meet his world view. One could look at Tali Hatuel and the recently emerged Palestinian practice of filming attacks. One deletes that material (filming attacks reported by INN, NYT, Reuters for various attacks) and calls on an admin to lock his deletions in place.....a sitation that i find rather troubling.

Feel free to delete this of course...we are effectively using Wikipedia as a message board here ;)

Cleanup message removal[edit]

Hi Caliper,

I removed the cleanup message from all articles that had it yesterday (you can check my contribution history), because it had been decided that it should no longer be used. The message had been edited so it was empty at the time (see its history). Lord Basava and all the other articles are still listed on Wikipedia:Cleanup; listing and listing alone should suffice in the future.

I do realize that my edit summary probably wasn't the clearest - I should've provided a reason. Sorry about that.

Happy editing -- Fredrik (talk) 09:02, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Day for Night.bmp[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Day for Night.bmp. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 01:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Day for Night.bmp[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Day for Night.bmp. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 01:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Day for Night.bmp)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Day for Night.bmp. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:28, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Day for Night.bmp. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 06:02, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
