What the hell does "banned from Georgia" mean? Maybe you mean "prohibited from entering Georgia." If so, by whom? Under what statute? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.175.241.52 (talk) 16:43, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May 2005[edit]

Source on the comment about Reed refusing to go into tax exile was the Region 1 DVD commentary track for Venom. Ellsworth 14:36, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Royal blood[edit]

This is not true and stems from someone thinking he was son of Carol Reed who's wife had royal blood. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 17:49, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Parachute Regiment[edit]

It says on the Parachute Regiment page that Reed was a member - perhaps this warrants a mention if true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.143.145.143 (talk) 23:12, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His national service was with the RAMC but the Parachute Regiment has offered parachute training to personnel from other branches of the British Army which qualify those completing the course successfully to wear Parachutist wings insignia on their uniform. Also he may have been attached to the regiment in his medic capacity.Cloptonson (talk) 14:53, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Upload a Photo of Reed[edit]

Someone please upload a photo of Oliver Reed here. I tried to do so from the web, but I was not conversant with fair use and stuff, so it got removed. Those who know how to, please upload a photo. Sourav.sg 06:35, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Sourav[reply]

The title photo doesn't do him justice. A still from "Oliver" would much more representative. Someone post a photo of the man in his prime as many of us remember him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.26.100.245 (talk) 17:40, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oliver Reed movie links[edit]

I've noticed on his page at the top where it lists some of the films Oliver Reed's been in, the link for Oliver! is directed to the stage play article instead of the movie article as well as the link for Gladiator which directs to the gladiator origins article instead of the movie. Captainkid (talk) 11:24, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

The article states that Reed was born in England, but later states that he was buried in his hometown in Ireland. Hometown would indicate that he was indeed Irish and not English. This needs to be cleared up. --Bentonia School (talk) 13:20, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reed was English::

I agree, it is a bit confusing. Reed was English and had a long-running mock feud with the Irishman, Richard Harris. Reed would refer to himself as Mr England whereas Harris would refer to himself as Mr Ireland. Reed eventually moved to Ireland, hence his "hometown" being where he lived.(217.154.31.71 (talk) 19:12, 26 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Identifying Marks[edit]

According to film director Stuart Gordon, "he would point out the tattoo on his penis and say that it was eagle claws and his wife said that she always thought it was lightning bolts." Encyclopedic, is it?

It has been suggested that the 'Wimbledon Eight' pub crawl article be merged with the Oliver Reed article. Whilst Oliver Reed invented the Wimbledon Eight pub crawl, I feel that it should remain a separate page as it can then be linked to both the Oliver Reed article and the Pub Crawl article. Furthermore, due to the sections in the Wimbledon Eight article, the merging of that article with the Oliver Reed one would affect the clarity and formatting of both articles. Blue Mundy (talk) 01:35, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also oppose. Article stands on its own two feet (pun intended). MickMacNee (talk) 03:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In practice it seems that the article could not stand on its own two feet, as it has since been deleted; what was the "Wimbledon Eight", and is there a good source to attest to its existence? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 20:01, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel Words[edit]

I've removed this passage:

"Other accounts say that Reed, when visiting the United States, would do drinking, barfights, and drive while intoxicated: he was said to have sexual relations with a teenage girl. He got arrested for these actions, then went to court, followed by undisclosed court decisions (possibly suspended sentence), and though he visited the U.S. in later years, he stayed out of the Southern states, like Kentucky and Georgia, where he was arrested."

I have no idea what the truth of the matter is, but it's not acceptable to accuse people of such things without proper, reliable, quoted sources, especially not when preceded with phrases such as 'he was said to have', 'some sources say', and the like. At the very least this reads as hearsay/tittle-tattle. Were he alive it would be pushing on for libel. 91.104.60.240 (talk) 16:32, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alcoholism and rugby culture[edit]

The reference to Reed's drinking habits fitting in with the "social attitude" of many rugby teams of the time needs some context. The rugby drinking culture is well known but the article doesn't make clear how Reed was connected to it. --Archstanton (talk) 12:48, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All I know is this; soon after Reed died, someone associated with one of the rugby clubs in London (I think it was Rosslyn Park, in Hampstead) wrote a letter of appreciation for his life, which was published in one of the broadsheet papers, and mentioned one of his epic feats of heavy drinking with them. It turned out he'd paid for the club's floodlights.

Meltingpot (talk) 18:57, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It turned out he also played for the club;

"The floodlights for the main pitch were famously provided by the hell-raising actor Oliver Reed who was also a member of the club and occasional player."

Meltingpot (talk) 19:01, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Carson show information is incorrect. The drink that Winters dumped on his head was hers, not his. It was whiskey in a coffee mug. She was the one drinking that night. Oliver was rather sober. 1.136.105.121 (talk) 16:08, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Done Fixed that was her cup not his glass. Alexcalamaro (talk) 11:09, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anglia vs. Reed?[edit]

Shouldn't the "Anglia Television Ltd vs Robert Reed" case be mentioned here? 109.176.252.139 (talk) 11:06, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Separate filmography[edit]

Out of interest why do we have a separate article for his filmography? I would say combining would be appropriate. Londonclanger (talk) 10:38, 3 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Paedophilia[edit]

The article should mention that Max Clifford said he covered up Reed's interest in underage girls. (86.159.61.175 (talk) 19:28, 28 April 2019 (UTC))[reply]

One dubious source does not make it so. A claim like this needs multiple independent sources. MarnetteD|Talk 21:23, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. And given Clifford's final years in earth, I'm not convinced that anything he uttered ought to be given credence. Hanoi Road (talk) 22:33, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What utter rot. 1.136.105.121 (talk) 16:09, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Clifford's accusations about Reed were widely reported: https://metro.co.uk/2014/03/13/oliver-reeds-sexual-preferences-for-young-girls-problematic-said-clifford-4564837/ (DesHurst1 (talk) 16:33, 25 March 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Bar Bill[edit]

Are we sure about his final bill totalling £450, and if so, what is the source for this? Based on the detailed list of what he drank, I estimate that even at a five star hotel - much less a pub - the bill could not possibly have been more a third of this amount. Hanoi Road (talk) 16:59, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The other two thirds were probably for rounds for the attending patrons, which would add up quite quickly, certinly doesn't mean "he" drank the total amount. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:00, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oliver Reed on David Letterman[edit]

Having read the part about Reed becoming "belligerent" on Letterman show, I found the clip on YouTube. Reed does mention he would like to not talk about his drinking, but Letterman did not cut to a commercial because he was becoming belligerent. It was time for a commercial. Reed was not "belligerent". 65.131.221.88 (talk) 17:15, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
