Problems[edit]

Both welcome and welcome2 have had problems with the 3/4 tildes thing. Hopefully using ~ will fix it. Alphax (t) (c) (e) 05:33, Jan 17, 2005 (UTC)

In this line:

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page.

Welcome2 displays the recipient's talk page instead of the sender's. -- Viajero 18:41, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The temporarily fixed version (?) now invites people to "ask me on Talk page". Aside from the matter of the link, I suggest that this should be "ask me on my talk page". No need for a capital, either here or for the other instance of "Talk".

This is not broken - it just isn't used right. The proper use of Welcome2 to is Trödel by putting your name after the pipe it will properly redirect the user to your talk page. Can someone with admin rights restore this so that it can be used correctly. Thx Trödel|talk 00:19, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Also, why bother to explain the use of three tildes? I don't recall ever seeing a situation where a comment was better left undated, so I don't think the three-tilde sequence needs an explanation here. Just ask people to use four. -- Hoary 05:39, 2005 May 21 (UTC)

Is it just me or should the first sentence end with an exclamation? Right now the message just doesn't sound enthusiastic. Bmdavll talk 00:51, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

should the following be added?

* Template:Welcome3
* Template:Welcome4

Current Date[edit]

It says Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. That is a little confusing. It makes it seem like whatever day somebody reads the comment of the user, then it will have that date. For example if you read my comment right now, and right now was ten days after I posted the comment, then it would say the current day (Ten days later: 4/28/06). I think it should be Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the date & time your message was saved.

Thank You, --GeorgeMoneyTalk  Contribs 22:06, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should add Template:TestTemplatesNotice and category Category:User warning templates, similar to Template:Welcomenpov. Should also add <includeonly>subst:</includeonly> before PAGENAME.

Capitals[edit]

Why is New contributors' help page capitalized? Can someone please change it? Michaelas10 (T|C) 13:16, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Three tidles?[edit]

I have removed the mention of three tildes as it only serves to confuse matters - standard practice is to sign with four. Thanks/wangi 04:15, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

helpme advice[edit]

Here can we tell users to post a question with the template so people know you're supposed to include a description of the problem when using it? Cool, --WikiSlasher 13:31, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. AnonEMouse (squeak) 19:44, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou! This'll fix the bad situation of me welcoming a user with the template, then the user posting helpme and then another editor showing up to say "You're supposed to ask a question." --WikiSlasher 06:38, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another helpme-related PER[edit]

Please change the bit about placing helpme on your 'user page' to 'user talk page'. Thanks. --ais523 09:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Minor edit request[edit]

"Talk" in the last paragraph needs to be uncapitalized. Thanks, Dar-Ape 18:44, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronoun fix[edit]

"I" should be "we" (the community), since this is not one of the welcome templates that takes a username parameter. — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] 08:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit[edit]

After the Welcome subheading, could someone add an exclamation mark after the "Welcome"? i.e. So "==Welcome==" becomes "==Welcome!==". Not only that, can you add an exclamation mark at the end of "Welcome to Wikipedia"? --AAA! (AAAA) 07:42, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any particular reason for this, or do you just want the welcome template to seem more jolly? Axem Titanium 04:57, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the other welcome templates have exclamation marks so I imagine that those would serve your purposes well enough. Axem Titanium 04:59, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that this change is particularly needed, and personally don't prefer it. If you want an exclamation mark, feel free to create a welcome template in your userspace with one. GracenotesT § 02:28, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PAGENAME vs BASEPAGENAME[edit]

editprotected Please replace PAGENAME with BASEPAGENAME. This prevents problems when archiving the welcome message, as the page name changes to "John Doe/Archive 1" instead of "John Doe". —Remember the dot (talk) 22:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that the right thing to do is to use this code:

which substitutes the page name when the template is placed. This makes sense since the template it only meant to be substituted. CMummert · talk 01:24, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I made the change I outlined. CMummert · talk 18:56, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed wording change[edit]

Please see Template_talk:Welcome#Suggesting_wording_change_to_simplify -SCEhardT 02:26, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Needs exclaimation point![edit]

Instead of having ==Welcome== be the section head text, let's use ==Welcome!== (with the exclaimation point) instead. Besides that it mirrors welcome, it shows that we want to welcome people loudly. I'd change it myself if it wasn't protected. --lifebaka (Talk - Contribs) 23:03, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would like to add a /doc page[edit]

I would like to add a /doc page, adding all of the <noinclude> infomation to the /doc, then adding documentation. I have already created the page:

Template:Welcome2/doc

All that needs to be done is:

 1. The category tag needs to be moved outside of the </noinclude> tag
 2. the information between the <noinclude> tag needs to be deleted, and
 3. documentation put in its place.

Many thanks in advance. I will give a WikiCookie to any admin who does this, just let me know when you want your damn cookie, because I don't maintain a watchlist. Ikip (talk) 04:53, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like there's a doc page. Is there something that isn't working correctly? -SCEhardT 13:40, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can an admin replace: New contributors' help page

With:

<span class="plainlinks">New contributors' help page</span>

This is much easier for new editors. thanks. Ikip (talk) 05:30, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 15 December 2014[edit]

That the fifth bullet point be replaced with

I think the wizard tool should be given as a nice tool for new editors.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:59, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 • Let's discuss this first please. I'm not sure "replacing" is the right way to go. I would support supplementing the existing fifth bullet point with this as a sub-point though. — Technical 13 (etc) 18:58, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The above is just inserting the article wizard before the existing link and a slight rephrase. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:35, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
