Build Location[edit]

The builders plates of the units describes them as being built in London Ont, however photographs exsist on the web that the units were at the very least, painted at Altoona PA shops. Chesapeake 21:19, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Retirement and covid[edit]

The article states "In February 2020, following the beginning of COVID-19 Pandemic, Norfolk Southern retired all 29 of its remaining SD80MACs, owing to their operational costs." This strongly suggests a causal relationship between covid and the withdrawal of the SD80MACs. Is that really true? While the pandemic did lead to large numbers of locomotives being sidelined, by the end of February 2020, the USA had only 68 confirmed cases of covid and one death. It seems very unlikely that covid would have influenced Norfolk Southern's decisions about their motive power fleet at that time. And that's assuming that "In February" means "on 29th February" – if the decision was made on 20 February, there had been only 16 confirmed cases in the USA. The WHO didn't declare covid a pandemic until 11 March. Dricherby (talk) 21:02, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
