Untitled[edit]

Shouldn't this article be renamed to Per-Johan Axelsson? That's his correct name. --claes 08:36, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And then fix all redirects? Quite a lot of work for a hyphen ... Esp since he's never ever called that, He's PJ in North America and Pebben in Sweden. Hdw 13:09, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hardly think that's enough basis for using abbreviation in the article title. Using all languages search gives a more even result, though still advantage for PJ. Hockey related searches gives more hits for AO then Alexander Ovechkin, does that mean we should move Alexander Ovechkin to AO? --Krm500 (talk) 14:19, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a straw man argument. Since this is the English Wikipedia, I'm quite unconcerned with how other languages render Axelsson's name, and I'm sure the corresponding Wikipedias do so in whatever form is most common in their particular languages without our interference. The plain fact, and the overwhelming consensus Wikipedia-wide, is that article names here correspond to the most commonly used and readily recognizable version of that name in English. "Robert Hull," "Cameron Neely," "Leonard Kelly" and "Terence O'Reilly" don't even have redirects, while "Gordon Howe" redirects, "Robert Orr" hits a disambiguation page, and, oh, "Jean-Claude Tremblay" redirects to "J.C. Tremblay."  Ravenswing  15:19, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so go ahead on the move to AO then? --Krm500 (talk) 16:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If what you are arguing is that "AO" is the most common English-language rendering of his name, sure, go ahead, knock yourself out.  Ravenswing  17:35, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people), we're supposed to use the most common English names that are recognizable and unambiguous (eg, H. G. Wells, F. Scott Fitzgerald). So even if a name like "AO" is well-known in hockey circles, it's definitely not the most common or the least ambiguous (see AO).-Wafulz (talk) 15:31, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Which, of course, it isn't; I was hoping Krm500 would realize how pointy his analogy was.  Ravenswing  16:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article history[edit]

Someone needs to do a history merge with Per Johan Axelsson. All the moves screwed it up.-Wafulz (talk) 15:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name of article[edit]

Shouldn't it be Axelsson, P.J. instead of P.J. Axelsson? Debresser (talk) 14:45, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why? see WP:NCP. ccwaters (talk) 15:13, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I must have been mixep up. Sorry. Debresser (talk) 17:03, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(sighs)[edit]

Sad to see that he's hung up the skates. We remember Ax here in Boston, and wish him well in his retirement. Ravenswing 10:54, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
