Thanks[edit]

Wow, thank you very much for posting this! This is something I never knew about.

Deleted ref[edit]

Actually, the institution of the Mexican Inquisition had much more to do with the discovery of lutheran cells in Spain, on the one hand, and reigning in the episcopal inquisition in Mexico, on the other, rather than any concerted attempt to persecute conversos. Add to that conflicts between the first Inquisitor general, Moya de Contreras, and the Viceroy, Martin Enriquez, and the initial impluse was to go after "foreigners", most thought to be refugees from John Hawkins's pirate raid. Regardless, the cited article deals primarily with the case of Carvajal, well known, but not representative of the Mexican Inquisition's activities. Hobomojo 06:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused and curious. The trial of over a hundred suspected homosexuals in the 1600's appears to have little to do with the Mexican Inquisition, which, like all the formal inquisitions was a series of eccessial courts examining charges of heresy (for Catholicism: claiming you are a Catholic when in fact you do not believe or follow that faith). That it was historical, I fully believe. But the paragraph only mentions the Royal Criminal Court. Either something is missing or this paragraph better belongs in the history of Mexico proper. --Melendezeast (talk) 15:04, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
