The Humungous Image Tagging Project[edit]

Hi. You've helped with User:Sietse Snel/Fix common mistakes project, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

January 15 Seattle meetup[edit]

Just wanted to let you know we are planning another Seattle meetup on January 15, 2005. We're trying to get a sense of who will attend, so please drop by that page & leave a note. I realize at that distance you aren't likely to make it, but I haven't heard of an Eastern Washington meetups... -- Jmabel | Talk 01:35, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

There aren't very many Eastern Washington editors, as far as I can tell. Perhaps I need to try to find some! Anyway, there will be times when I'm on the west side (February 16-17 in Olympia, for instance) so perhaps we can arrange something for that time. Brian Sayrs 18:33, 2005 Jan 6 (UTC)

Liberty Lake, Washington[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering whether it is a good idea to split off the City article in the way that you did. Couldn't you simply edit the existing Liberty Lake, Washington article? After all, isn't that what the city is named? If you do not want the CDP census data mixed in with the new city information, then I would suggest moving the CDP article to something like Liberty Lake (CDP), Washington. Best. olderwiser 03:13, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)

I know you've done a great deal of work on this topic, and I respect that. But in this case, editing it as a single article was to become burdensome because "Liberty Lake, Washington" is a place, and "City of Liberty Lake, Washington" is a government entity. Unfortunately, they are not synonymous nor coterminal--this is more due to local political circumstances than census characteristics, highlighting a need for these subjects to be treated separately. I considered moving the CDP and community data to another location, but due to my impression of the current naming standard within the CDP category, I moved the other. Besides, I consider the City to be a subordinate subject to the community (as a government is only one characteristic of a community), so I made the City article carry the parenthetical modifier. Thanks, though, for challenging my thoughts on this! I need to keep on my toes! Brian Sayrs 18:25, 2005 Jan 6 (UTC)
Except that the naming is inconsistent with nearly every other U.S. city article. The CDP article is really not about the "community"--it is census data about an arbitrarily defined area for statistical purposes. It every other case that I am aware of where there are both a CDP and an incorporated municipality with the same name, either the municipality gets the undisambiguated name (i.e., "Name, State" for the city and "Name (CDP), State" for the CDP) or both articles are disambiguated and the simple name is a disambiguation page that links to both. Personally, I think most people have no clear idea what a CDP is and when they think of a place they are generally thinking of a municipality (and the associated community, culture, etc.) and not some statistical entity defined by the Census Bureau. olderwiser 18:45, Jan 6, 2005 (UTC)
Again, I want to stress that I respect the work you've done on this topic, but since I am a resident of Liberty Lake, and no one in the entire State of Washington would deny me the right to claim to be an expert on Liberty Lake issues since I have been involved in the creation and governance of the City of Liberty Lake, I am stating the clear fact that Liberty Lake, Washington and Liberty Lake, Washington (City) are not only clearly differentiated topics, but also named appropriately. This will be a topic addressed within the articles once I have the opportunity to finish the articles in question. Not only do they have distinct histories and cultural characteristics, but many people in this community would argue that they aren't even in the same place. You might find this odd, but the argument is not entirely without merit. This will all be clear once the artcles are complete. Brian Sayrs 00:13, 2005 Jan 8 (UTC)

Looking for help on a major wiki project[edit]

Hey :) I was wondering if you'd be interesting in helping out with www.Knowmore.org, a corporation search wiki we're trying to get off the ground. We could DEFINATELY use some people that know how to make a wiki community great & the site is almost a blank slate at this point. It's been heavily customized and is designed to help responsible consumers enter any product or company name and immediatly find information about that co. (the main focus of the wiki is corporate & political information in a much more specialized way then wikipedia currently offers) Let me know if you're interested! aim: knowmoreorg or bernard@knowmore.org

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Brian Sayrs! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,195 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
