Comic strip[edit]

I saw a Conan the Librarian comic strip back in the '70s, at the circ desk of the library at the Illinois Institute of Technology. So the Mother Goose and Grimm one could not have been the first.

I also saw such a strip, photocopied from somewhere, presumably a journal for librarians, and passed around the University of Texas Library in the 1980's. I have never been able to find any panels of this black and white comic on the Internet. It was genuinely funny. 70.112.79.142 (talk) 19:28, 8 November 2009 (UTC) Eric[reply]

Didn't it run in various campus newspapers in the early '80s? Not R (talk) 17:52, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1990s[edit]

In the 1990s, a U.S. medical librarian appeared on Jeopardy - and she referred to herself as Conan the Librarian. Kingturtle (talk) 22:20, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bruce Dickinson[edit]

it is also a nickname for bruce dickinson (and many other people, of course) --78.182.173.190 (talk) 16:59, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Runescape?[edit]

I've played runescape for many a year, and have yet to come across any books as such described here. Since nobody is likely to read or care about this, i'll delete it myself until proven otherwise. 156.34.191.39 (talk) 00:40, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability/sources[edit]

There's an article on this subject: Marketing library services: MLS., Volume 21, Issue 4 - Volume 24, Issue 4 "Spectacles: How Pop Culture Sees Librarians". Sadly, not available online. And a book which mentions it with only snippets online: Ruth Kneale, You Don't Look Like a Librarian: Shattering Stereotypes and Creating Positive New Images in the Internet Age, Information Today, Inc.: 2009 --Colapeninsula (talk) 13:08, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Monty Python[edit]

This was originally from a Monty Python sketch with Michael Palin as a film director who specialised in non-violent movies such as Conan the Librarian etc. I can't find which Episode or when broadcast but it was from the mid 1970's. I'm sure this is the origin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.65.58.160 (talk) 13:40, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think this editor may have misreremembered either "Film Director", "Gorilla Librarian", or "The Attila the Hun Show"? A recent CBR article suggested that Monty Python never created a sketch parodying Conan the Barbarian. This claim (which stayed here uncited for over 8 years![1]) seems probably untrue.
