Homebrew[edit]

I added some detail to make it clearer that the Homebrew Computer Club was an informal experimenter's group ("homebrew" roughly means DIY) rather than a group of idealists dedicated to "making computers more accessible to everyone". - LuckyLouie 04:25, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Query[edit]

Does anyone else remember meetings at the Exploratorium (maybe around 86). I sat next to Captain Crunch and met Woz. Yeah, I think I remember my brother and my dad went to a HCC meeting there. The BYTE shop hosted a bunch of HCC events, too. Woz was there - I remember him testing audio recording and playback on the hombrew computer next to me "Does this work better in HIGH tones, or LOW tones.", he said. Captain Crunch was probably learning a lot from Steve Iness, who basically taught everyone to Phreak, and who also hosted the Great Redding Computer Party, which the FBI raided, changing their lives forever for the worse. Steve was a genius and a wonderful person who worked with really top industry pros for years and was never accredited with anything - most people in HCC think he came up with the insights for DSL, and I heard him say that he had developed a plot for an ATT engineer that showed maximum frequency v bandwith that looked like a pair of "lips". Steve ended up living with Captain Crunch for a little while, but he wasn't having a great time - really unhealthy. He stayed at my place in Mountain View for a while, too. One of two African-American in the Homebrew Club?[edit]

According to this page, there were two African-American members of the club, but on Lawson's page he is mentioned as being the only one. Which is correct??? Rhodesisland (talk) 01:49, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From the interview cited, Mr. Lawson recollects that he was the only black member. He mentions Mr. Jones as being 'in the field" but not as a club member:

BE: Were you the only black guy at those computer club meetings?

JL: Yes.

BE: Did you know any other black people in that field at the time?

JL: There was a guy who was around that time, and he's dead now. His name was Ron Jones. He ended up pushing all kinds of side things. He was around. He was not in the industry, per se.

Homebrew Robotics Club[edit]

Defelix has added a red link to the "Homebrew Robotics Club" with the claim that it originated from the Homebrew Computer Club in the See also section of the article. My thinking is that the purpose of the See also section is to direct readers to other articles they are may be interested in that are related to this article. As there is no article for the Homebrew Robotics Club, such a link is pointless for the current time. AntiVan (talk) 21:46, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this is possible. HCC was done by the time Star Wars came out. HRC was just getting started when Jar-Jar was ruining everything. So, too big a gap to say that it "originated" from HCC. However, it was inspired by HCC for sure, and it's go way more longevity and more kids involved. Shame that the HCC doesn't still exist. I also think that a venn diagram of people who attended the Foothill Radioameteur Club and the Foothill Electronics Flea Market and the HCC would show near complete overlap with HCC. 158.140.229.199 (talk) 04:20, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
