Mazda 323

Holden Zafira

I am 100 per cent certain about the Zafira having been officially sold in New Zealand and having witnessed many on the roads. I'm not sure why you have never seen them on the local site though I recall at one time it was not updated properly. I went in once to look for a certain model that had been launched and it wasn't there.

One user (not me) made an early edit of the Holden page indicating that the Zafira was available in New Zealand, too, so I am not alone.

Ford Sierras in Brazil

You are right: they weren't Brazilian, but Argentinian (source: World Cars and Auto Katalog). Slight confusion, though this may have been caused by a contemporary American report about Brazilian imports, which was obviously wrong. I'll make the changes. Stombs 08:55, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

UK telephone numbering plan#Crown Dependencies

Re your edit:

• It repeats stuff from the top of the article - does it need to be said twice?
• Guernsey phones, if I read the BT Archive website aright have always been independant - I don't know about their postal service.
• Surely the real reason they are in the UK numbering plan is that it is simpler and cheaper for them than getting their own ISD code. Cf. Liechenstein which hangs on to the Swiss network or Vatican City and San Marino off the Italian.

Would you care to re-word slightly?

It would nice to see a bit in User:Quiensabe about who you are, where you are, etc. - though I will excuse you the mug-shot you are certainly allowed that much anonimity. RHaworth 12:34, 2005 Jan 15 (UTC)

Opel Ascona

Hi Quiensabe: I have reinstated my information on the Chevrolet Chevair and the Vauxhall Manta at the above page and I'm a little unsure why it was deleted. You are right, of course, about the Chevrolet Ascona, which from memory was only a 1.6, while the Chevair had a larger engine—that I have retained. Opel did indeed sell the Manta in the UK but eventually (as I stated) it became the Vauxhall Manta. Stombs 06:55, Jan 20, 2005 (UTC)

your edit on Portuguese language was not accurate. Tetun follows phonetical caracteristics and not the Portuguese ortography. In Portugal "reconstrucção" is spoken has "reconstrusão", the "c" is mute. -Pedro 02:37, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

Why's that? The number of speakers is important. And its massive growth is also important, you should readd that. Rhodesia

Yang di-Pertuan Negara

It is to my understanding, that the governor has little representation in this article, the article is regarding the Yang di-Perturn Negara, which has little relation with the governor as politically-corrected in 1959. As for the first Yang di-Pertuan Negara, it was indeed Sir William Goode, of which I have omitted accidentally. However, its worth to be noted that Sir William Goode was sworn in to become the first head of state before democratic election, which under contexts I have referred, do not consider Singapore the State of Singapore, but still a crown colony.

As for the correction you have made, there is no 1959 constitution, but a revised version of 1955, of which was based on the recommendations of the Renden Commission.

As for your comments, it was our honour to have Sir William Goode as our last British head of state; he had himself propagated the independence of Singapore. Slivester 09:06, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

Canadian Citizenship

I noticed your change on the history of Canadian citizenship. It's not quite correct to say that Canada was the first Commonwealth nation to enact a nationality law. The Irish Free State had done so in 1935, and although Ireland is not a member of the Commonwealth now, it remained one until 18 April 1949. JAJ 22:04, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Uni/bicameral map?

The file you uploaded should have been uploaded to replace Image:Unibicameral_Map.png on Wikimedia Commons. It is more reasonable to have a language-inspecific pic like that accesible to all the Wikipedias, not just the English one.

Besides, since your map is obviously based on the on already on Commons, I'm not sure you can make it Public Domain instead of GFDL. Your new image is also of a lower resolution, and has a strange shaded box over Rwanda and Burundi. I also see that you colored Bosnia and Herzegovina orange instead of blue in your new image.

Unless you provide a wikipedia article, with solid references od proof of notability of the term, I am going to delist it. I ave no doubts that there was a dilike of Portugals (like any other major nation), but was this word in notable circulation? mikka (t) 20:34, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

France overseas régions

I am reverting your changes to French overseas régions. A specific infobox for France overseas régions is not needed. It gives the wrong impression that France overseas régions have a specific administrative status, whereas in fact they are just standard régions, like any other French régions. It would be like having a specific "overseas US states" infobox for Hawaii and Alaska. On the other hand, it is true we are losing information with the standard French régions infobox. We need to add a département infobox to the articles Réunion, Guyane, Martinique, and Guadeloupe in order to enter the information that is specific to the départements. I just didn't have the time to do it so far. You can use the standard département infobox (check Haute-Garonne for instance), and put it in the four articles with relevant information. For time zones, country code, etc., you can put them simply in the the article since there is no space for them inside the standard département and région infoboxes. Please note that in any case these subjects are controversial. These overseas régions are not independent countries, and for instance in Réunion many people use .fr for their website, they don't use .re, whereas of course people in favor of independence use .re, etc. I don't think it is a good idea to put controversial things in the infoboxes. For time zones maybe we can add a new line in the standard French régions infobox, but then that means we need to fill in the line for all 26 régions of France, and check which apply summer daylight saving, and which don't. Hardouin 12:34, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

A special government department? What do you mean by that? Again, the status of overseas régions and départements is the same as régions and départements in metropolitan France. Thanks for the source! After reading it, it seems so similar to the India case that I had to re-read both cases to check if perhaps they were one and the same case but one had misinformation. The difference in dates as well as locations made me think the similarity is probably due to both being caused by exactly the same tragic thing : long flowing female hair caught in the same type farm equipment - pulling the hair at one end and cutting skin tissue below the face - face harvesting machinery - now THAT'S a horror movie! Gibraltar

The problem was not with any information about Gibraltar, it was the infobox template itself, which is less user-friendly than previous ones.

The information about it being a UK overseas territory is displayed twice (which is why I put <!-- can somebody get rid of this? -->) but when I tried to delete it, it created spaces for {{{established_events}}} {{{established_dates}}} I have no issues at all with the status of Gibraltar, or with the data contained in the infobox - in fact, I wanted to enter information for National Day being on 10th September.Quiensabe 16:30, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

No problem, was curious about the detail - that infobox is a cryptic area that gave me hell trying to update too, will have another poke at it. National day used to be in there.--Gibnews 08:29, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Unilateral removal of the history section in ABC article

Hi Quiensabe

We have an unpleasant situation about to develop over this action by one "cyberjunkie" ("cj"), who decided all of a sudden that he'd move the entire History section of the ABC article to a new daughter article, without replacing it with a summary. The history section was almost entirely written more than a year ago.

Since this action on 12 September, the section has languished with no text at all under its title, save a link to the daughter article.The action has, in effect, gutted the article, leaving what appear to be insubstantial fragments without a core. It's must be odd to the newcomer to be denied a summary of the history and to move straight onto a chunky section on "funding and relationship with government" without knowing where how the institution arose.

Now, it's not that I disagree with him that the History section was written in greater detail than you'd normally expect in summary style. (A related issue is that the rest of the article may need to be fleshed out in the opposite direction to achieve satisfactory summary coverage of the topic—perhaps the optimal balance needs to be debated on the talk page.) What I do object to is

• (1) his failure to raise the matter on the talk page beforehand, and
• (2) provide replacement text with the summary style that he's using as his stated rationale for the removal.

The edit comment for the removal was "split (will summarise later)", whereas I'd have been pleased to see a summary written before the removal, for immediate replacement.

I've raised the matter on the talk page, and Cyberjunkie has responded negatively:

I think a total blank is worse than a long history. Please create a summary soon. Your action has resulted in damage to the overall article, IMV. Tony 11:16, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I can see that this is getting nowhere. I wonder whether you agree that he should either undertake to write a summary section in the near future (I suggest three or four paragraphs) or reinstate the text and raise the issue on the talk page.

Edit to Spelling reforms of Portuguese

Hi, Quiensabe. I noticed your recent edit to Spelling reforms of Portuguese. I had decided not to speak of ll and ñ on purpose, because, in the early medieval period of Spanish and Portuguese, other spellings were also used in competition with those for the palatal consonants. I uploaded the exact same logo and put it on the page. It was taken off due to vandalism and you have put another one in its place. The original image was on there first and there is no need to replace it because it is exactly the same. You have offered POV for the Indonesian Malaysian difference article and although you might consider yourself right on the matter - as a malaysian language taught australian who has lived in Indonesia I beg to differ - dont be suprised if your edit is reverted. Thanks, however, I would regard this sentence as POV - For non native Indonesians and Malays, the languages seem similar, but for native users, the differences are disturbing when used for a deep verbal conversation or during written communication. My editing was more a rewording than my own opinion.

Also, as someone from the UK who grew up in Singapore and visited Malaysia and Indonesia regularly, I've never heard anyone refer to the Malay language in English as 'Malaysian', only as Bahasa Malaysia, and only then in Malaysia itself. I suppose it could be called that, just as the language of Indonesia is called Indonesian, but I don't think it'd be popular in Singapore and Brunei, where it has always been know as Malay. Well terima kasih banyak is telling :) - what we are touching on has previously wasted a huge amount of space and time between fiercely xenophobic malays and indonesians with very limited english - so I withdraw my challenge to revert your edit (although I believe your removal of the spelling section was misguided) - in Australia and Java I have heard sufficient variants on what we are discussing to go against any common practices or general usages in singapore, malaysia and brunei - and in the end you havent specifically offered anything that resembles RS (The original point is for whatever our experiences might tell us - WP:V is a requirement against WP:OR and other various misdemenours - which is typical for the whole malaysian and indonesian wiki projects - so I rest my case - andecdotal information for a pair of projects with a very large number of articles that have not a single reliable source amongst them - more appropriately - cheers and hope you are able to offer something like a source sometime SatuSuro 09:10, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Later, in January 2010, someone else reverted the changes to +44 to make it again into a disambiguation page. However, this created a fork of the article originally found at +44 (band) and edits continued on both branches of the fork. These changes were reverted by a Wikipedia administrator such that +44 again became a disambiguation page and +44 (band) reverted to the contents about the punk band of that name, as of November, 2009.

By now making +44 into a redirect to Telephone_numbers_in_the_United_Kingdom this not only removes the disambiguation link to +44 (band) but it also, potentially, could precipitate an edit war with the followers of the band +44 (band). Trinidad and Tobago (Commonwealth Realm)

Whilst it is absolutely true that Dominica became a republic on independence and was thus never a Commonwealth Realm itself, I don't see how that has any relevance to the fact that Trinidad and Tobago to date is the only Commonwealth Realm in the caribbean which has abolished its monarchy.

The Telephone numbers in Malta article was recently deleted, see this edit. This article is not a duplicate and should not have been deleted. Soon after the original content had been restored it was again deleted in error.

Rather than reverse the previous erroneous deletion, you have recently created a brand new page here. You may not have been aware of the prior history. Thanks for stepping in and editing.
