2016-17 Aus season[edit]
Hi. I got three things requested... 1) Just in case, Keith, is it alright if you could archive some sources for a tropical system that had recently developed (more info in article itself/formed Nov 19)? 2) Remember the TL during mid-October? If possible, could you finish adding/archiving sources until the 17th/18th, as the system fully dissipated or last mentioned by TCWC Perth were during the 17th - 18th. - Omg, thanks for the hard work. Also I just wanted to say, because I don't want to do too many requests to you because I feel like I'm too bossy, maybe you should help and if there are any bulletins from all of the 3 TCWCs (Perth, Brisbane, Darwin) that states a "Tropical Low" ("Lows" or "weak Lows" don't count) you should add in the sources please because it is easier. - Keep up the great work, Keith and it really does help a lot, especially how the problem in this basin since the start are "missing designated TLs". Now, it seems like we are filling in the "missing" TLs and it's in order. So perhaps in the next time you update the track map, to include those TLs, and look at the season timeline bar to see which one is which. - Oh ok. I was just asking because there was a skip in designation from 27U to 29U (Frances), which of course there should be a TL between those systems. But if none mentions anything, it's alright because we had a lot of progress during the season as we have most TLs, whereas other seasons definitely have missing TLs, and thank you so much for it as we know what to do in future AusR seasons. :) Typhoon2013 (talk) 10:40, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

- Have a look yourself on http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/advisories/indexfull.htm - some of the Brisbane ones say "A number of transient lows may develop along a trough in the far northern Coral Sea over the coming days, however none are currently expected to develop into a tropical cyclone" but there's no mention any of them ever even became lows. --Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 07:35, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Ok thanks for those sources Keith. But talking about this "missing" 28U, the only possible storm for this is Cyclone Cook as this site proves to us that a system can be designated by BoM even as it is to the east of the basin (where 13F, or soon to be Bune, was classified as 24U). Using your help, Keith, pretty much we have all "designated" systems by BoM and plus Cook is the only system mentioned between 27U and Frances. This is the only possible scenario and only thing I could say now is thank you so much for your help this season and I'm looking forward to find future TLs within the next season. Hi, Keith and it's been a while. So I have a huge problem. Can you please rename the current "Roke Geostationary VIS-IR 2017.png" back to "08W Geostationary VIS-IR 2017.png"? And in the same time could you please rename the "10W Geostationary VIS-IR 2017.png" image to "Roke Geostationary VIS-IR 2017.png?" Deletion for some images reqeust[edit]
Hello, Keith and of course I have to thank you each time for helping me and other users in Wikipedia! But I want to request a deletion of two images from a different project I'm involved in. I want these: (File:New Zealand Parliament Lab-NZF coalition seating plan, 2017.svg) and (New Zealand Parliament caretaker govt, 2017.svg) images deleted as they have a replica and someone is just in a mood and no need to worry about that. And to clear things up with this user, could you rename the file "New Zealand Parliament (current composition).svg" to "NZ Parliament seats, 2017.svg"? Thanks so much and I hope you understand. Areas for UK local authorities[edit]
Hi Keith, A new user changed the area for Belfast from 35.32 to 44.5 square miles. In trying to check if this was right, I found List of districts in Northern Ireland by area which has the area as 133 km2 and led me on to Template:NI district population. This has the area of Belfast as 132.5 km2. Looking at the source, it has the area as 13,247.62 hectares (51.1493 sq mi). For now, I've put 51.15 square miles in the Belfast infobox but this all raises some questions. 132.5 is the correct rounding of 132.4762 and 133 is the correct rounding of 132.5 but 132 would be the correct rounding of the original number. Would it cause problems to have the full accuracy of the original number in the NI district population template so that the rounding for display is correct? And, is there any way to get the numbers from that template to ones like Template:Infobox UK place so that the data only have to be maintained in one place? Please upload 2016's 10U track map. Based on EOSDIS Worldview alone (can't find anything on BoM), the low developed over the center of Gulf of Carpentaria, moved into the NT region (which the system continually moved southwest), and moved into Western Australia by the time TCWC Perth discontinued advisories on the low. - 👦🗣️ 12:16, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Article of the month, by Jason Rees History of tropical cyclone naming - The practice of using names to identify tropical cyclones goes back several centuries, with storms named after places, saints or things they hit before the formal start of naming in each basin. The credit for the first usage of personal names for weather systems is given to the Queensland Government Meteorologist Clement Wragge, who named tropical cyclones and anticyclones between 1887 and 1907. This system of naming fell into disuse for several years after Wragge retired, until it was revived in the latter part of World War II for the Western Pacific basin. Over the following decades, various naming schemes have been introduced for the world's oceans, including for parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and the Indian Ocean. The majority of these lists are compiled by the World Meteorological Organization's tropical cyclone committee for the region and include names from different cultures as well as languages. Over the years there has been controversy over the names used at various times, with names being dropped for religious and political reasons. For example, female names were exclusively used in the basins at various times between 1945 - 2000 and were the subject of several protests. The names of significant tropical cyclones in the North Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Australian region are retired from the naming lists and replaced with another name, at meetings of the various tropical cyclone committees. Storm of the month and other tropical activity  Cyclone Fani was an extremely severe cyclonic storm that made landfall in Odisha, India on May 3. The storm achieved peak intensity as a near Category 5-equivalent cyclone with 3-minute sustained winds of 215 km/h (130 mph), 1-minute sustained winds of 250 km/h (155 mph), and a minimum central pressure of 937 hPa (mbar). Fani caused over $1.8 billion (2019 USD) in damage in India and Bangladesh and killed at least 89 people.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it.
