Comment[edit]

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find the article very objective. Maybe someone who knows more about it can try to adjust it a little bit or simply erase some of the glorifying adjectives.

It would be nice if you added your Nick and I don't see any glorifying adjectives. ;)

The CCC was founded in Soviet-controlled East Berlin on September 12, 1981 by Wau Holland and others in anticipation of the prominent role that information technology would play in the way people live and communicate.

That's wrong, CCC was not founded in East Berlin but West Berlin, in the rooms of "die tageszeitung"

Discordianism - for real?[edit]

I'm an active member of the CCC and this bit about discordianism... I'd say, that it's not very important. I've always regarded it a little joke, cultural reference just like "23" or "foo bar". GAL[edit]

If someone called the GAL the communist worker's party in Hamburg you should really doubt their paper at all. The GAL was and is the Green party organisation in Hamburg. Third biggest party in the Hamburg city and state parliament and currently ruling party, with the conservative CDU. So I will delete that part, well the entire paragraph, seems pointless to cite such a study. -- Thomas (talk) 02:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

struggle[edit]

replaced "to struggle for" with the less ambigous "to stand up for" as I see it inappropriate to promote a term that is easily associated with near-vain effort. Not using "to fight" (although that's of course a common term and some civil rights organizations use it of themselves) as it might be too easily associated with violence (which is not used or endorsed by the CCC) by those superficially familiar with the term "hacker". 217.226.61.243 (talk) 14:09, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Julian Assange?[edit]

There certainly are lots of rumors that Julian Assange is/was associated with the CCC[1]. See for instance these incredibly unreliable sources[2][3]. The CCC features prominently in the leaked log of Domscheit-Berg's falling out with Assange, I think generally regarded as accurate[4]. And of course the Wau Holland Foundation was listed as where to send donations to WikiLeaks. It seems probable that Assange was in the org, and if anyone can come up with a reputable source, he seems famous enough to add to the members section of the page. Clubs outside of German-speaking countries[edit]

I propose moving heading Chaos Computer Club France to a subheading under 'Clubs outside of German-speaking countries' or similar. There is/was a meeting in Bristol, UK which could then be included. --trevj (talk) 09:56, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Right to share information?[edit]

Do you think the Chaos Computer Club ever promoted refraining from sharing personal information or is just sensibilizing to the weakness of most phones and databases?

One could discuss whether users are actively participating in surveillance, simply by sharing a lot of information (localization, photos...) automatically or on social media for example. It could seem easier to incite users to use internet in a way that they have nothing to loose if anybody puts a hand on said information.


However, from the CCC contents, It appears that privacy is, to the CCC, a right, and that perhaps sharing information freely and easily is also one.
