Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.

Perfect, I hope I didn't sound too rash. As for relevancy in connection with other germanic languages, I think that rather belongs on the page on Protogermanic (which could do with some work, I'll look into it). Asdfgl 20:25, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There is a pedagogic reason behind citing various forms of the name Rurik. The pages relating to Rurik, Rus' (people), Varangian, etc. are frequently under attack from anti-normanists in Eastern Europe who have strong nationalistic bias against anything implying the role of Vikings in the creation of Kievan Rus'. As most of them aren't liguists some of them get hinged on small differences in spelling, which in their minds is evidence against what they call the normanist theory. Consequently, there is a point in showing that the same name appears in varying forms.--Wiglaf 20:35, 21 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
