Creation[edit]

when in history was the sec. of commerce added? "It was originally created as the United States Department of Commerce and Labor on February 14, 1903. It was subsequently renamed to the Department of Commerce on March 4, 1913, and its bureaus and agencies specializing in labor were transferred to the new Department of Labor."

1987 Acting Secretary[edit]

I changed the 1987 Acting Secretary to Clarence Brown from Bruce Smart, as verified in New York Times articles from that era. Tooptoo 17:59, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Richardson[edit]

Isn't it premature to include Governor Richardson on this page?

Bill Richardson has been confirmed by Obama, and we at least need to remove Warren Buffet.

It is all but certain that Richardson will be nominated (according to the AP it will be announced tomorrow), but I don't think it is stylistically good to list him along with all the past secretaries. I would prefer to mention that Richardson will probably assume the office in the text at the beginning of the article. How about we leave him out of the main list for the moment until it becomes official in January? Dwr12 (talk) 01:36, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gary Locke[edit]

I've reverted the reversion of my edits and taken out the only place where Locke was stated as Secretary, in the list of secretaries. (That part is now commented out.) However, the paragraph I added about his (presumptive) nomination, and designee in the infobox, should remain - all of that makes abundantly clear that he is not SoC yet. 140.247.155.54 (talk) 05:04, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in United States Secretary of Commerce[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of United States Secretary of Commerce's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
