"Nereus" (the old man of the sea) has such irresistible similarities to the "Noah" of Genesis, it is quite remarkable.

The fact that both Nereus and Noah were said to be righteous, wise, and peacful, is interesting.

An author by the name of Robert Bowie Johnson Jr. is the first man to really pinpoint the similarities between these two figures of mythology. He has written several books about Greek mythology and its ties to the Genesis story.

Nereus identified as Horemheb[edit]

"Nereus was father to Thetis, one of the Nereids, who in turn was mother to the great Greek hero Achilles, and Amphitrite, who married Poseidon."

-- The Poseidon in this myth is Aegeus father of Theseus. That makes Nereus, 1 generation older than Aegeus, since Aegeus married the daughter of Nereus; Nereus is Horemheb. Horemheb had a sea campaign from Byblos to Carchemish. Carchemish was an important Mittani(Nahariya) city, that had recently conquered by the Hittites during the reign of Akhenaten. The name Nereus derives from Nahariya, where the Greeks add s's.

Additionally, the parentage of Nereus is Pontus; it appears to be a symbolic parentage. The Pontus Region is the general vicinity of the Mitanni.
