John A. Rose was born on January 31, 1948 in Long Beach, California.

Mr. Rose graduated from La Puente High School in La Puente, California where he was an All American Water Polo Player.

Mr. Rose married Cheryl Lyn Whipple in 1968 and they have two adult children and three grandchildren.

Mr. Rose was employed by the City of Pasadena, California Police Department from 1967 until 1981. During that time, and from February 1969 until November 1970, he served in the United States Army.

Following his military service, he returned to the Pasadena Police Department where he worked in various areas to include patrol, administation, planning and research, vice, narcotics, domestic violence, and as a detective.

In 1978, while a Police Agent, Mr. Rose was involved in a serious automobile collision resulting from his pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

Three years later, and following his recovery, Mr. Rose decided to leave law enforcement. His injuries would not let him continue the more active responsibilities required. Still a young man in his 30's, Mr. Rose opted not to pursue a medical retirement saying that he wanted to continue to be of service.

Mr. Rose continued his college education. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Calfiornia State University at Los Angeles and, later as an adult, a Master's Degree, from the same university, in Public Administration with emphasis in Finance and Policy.

Mr. Rose, a member of the Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons, and having experience with children from dependent, abused, and neglected backgrounds, together with his educational credentials felt well-suited to apply to become Administrator of the Masonic Home for Children in Covina, California. This is a non-profit public benefit charitable corporation suported by California Masons since 1899.

Mr. Rose was the charter Administrator of that program when it expanded to include services to the elderly in a Residential Facility.

This expansion was located on property contiguous to the Masonic Home for Children and allowed wonderful opportunities for intergenerational programing between dependent children and adults. Many of these children knew the abandonment of adults and would have never known a grandparent. This program encouraged meaningful and healthy relationships.

During his tenure from 1981 until late 1994 with the Masonic Homes in Covina, California, Mr. Rose served four years as a member of the Charter Oak Unified School District Governing Board, having served as its president. He also served on the Charter Oak Unified School District Financing Corporation and a number of ad hoc study Committees with the City of Covina, California.

He and his wife, Sherry, were youth leaders in several organizations to include The International Order of DeMolay, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, International Order of Job's Daughters, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and through the Methodist Church. Mr. Rose was a member of the Covina, California Rotary Club.

Mr. Rose also served as chairman of the Administrative Board of the Covina United Methodist Church in California and, later, chairman of the Safe Santuaries Committee for the Irving Park United Methodist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina.

In 1995, and after their children were grown and out in the world, John and Sherry Rose left California for North Carolina.

Strange he should wind up in NOrth Carolina. His grandfather [Oscar Augustus Clemmer] and father to John's mother [Loveta Clemmer Rose] was born in North Carolina. John was apponted Chief Executive Officer for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home of North Carolina, Inc. [MESH] in Greensboro.

MESH is a nonprofit charitable corporation and North Carolina's oldest nursing home. This program was chartered in 1910 and is now licensed as a Continuing Care Retirement Community for 300 persons. Services range from Independent Living through nursing services.

While at MESH, Mr. Rose supervised and oversaw the construction of a new Care and Wellness Center and Independent Living Village and implemented a new proram of Outreach Services.
