Spelling[edit]

There are different spellings of his name like Gottescalc, Godescalc or Godescalchus, I have no idea if there is some need to add them here. And there is some confusion with the place of birth. Here is listed Mainz but other sources give Bern. And of course the date. I have seen 803, 804 etc. And his death is also a bit uncertain I think years like 868/869 would be a bit more accurate.

Fulgentius[edit]

According to the The International cyclopedia: a compendium of human knowledge, Volume 6 By Richard Gleason Greene, p. 810 (I found an excerpt in Google Books) Gottschalk of Orbais was also known as Fulgentius. Gottschalk (theologian) → Gottschalk of Orbais — When distinguished from other Gottschalks (or slightly less known variants like Godescalc), Gottschalk of Orbais appears to be the most common name attested in the literature. Cavila (talk) 22:08, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Support. Either name is acceptable, but you're right, this is the standard way of identifying this particular Gottschalk. It's an esoteric subject, so using this scholarly name is appropriate as there's little other discussion of him. Andrewa (talk) 15:20, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
